To think Sir Bob n Midge should just write another flippin' song?

No denying the original was, and still is awesome. Round 2, with Kylie n Jase et al, not the original but hey, it was still ok. Round 3, the biggest Christmas cringe going, that rap... had me screaming at the tv 10 years ago and now. they. are. doing. it. again. To add insult to injury they're having one friggin' direction on it.

Aibu? We are massively into Christmas in this house but this I can't abide, am I just bah humbug or should sir Bob n Midge be using their massive talent to bring us something new to sing along to instead of letting a classic be murdered again?

I don't think EBOLA has dropped off the radar its just other things have taken over from it, and as for Gedolf not making money from it , of course he is, his name is back in the limelight and people will look at and possibly buy his other music not just this remake of a remake.
if the 'celebs' gave money as well as their 'precious time' to these causes they would make more of a fortune than they do already off the backs of us mere mortals

angelohsodelight · 14/11/2014 16:17

Bob should be looking closer to home at the tens of thousands of people who will die from the cold this Christmas at home, rather than focusing in a disease that has sadly killed 5400 but is pretty much contained to 3 countries whose governments choose to spend their wealth on things other than sewage systems and running water, which would help eliminate the spread. Harsh, but the whole works can't be saved.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 14/11/2014 16:47

I thought I was cynical!

I think it's great, and it's only revamping an old thing for the next generation. Like the remake of batman or something.

divingoffthebalcony · 14/11/2014 16:49

"Thank God it's them instead of you" sounds reeeeally inappropriate when you're talking about Ebola. Christ Grin

JohnFarleysRuskin · 14/11/2014 16:52

Well the lyrics were never gonna win any prizes- but that's not the point.

The point is playing 'whose voice is that? It sounds rubbish'

somewheresomehow · 14/11/2014 17:37

precisely angel !
they always want to help people abroad with corrupt/inept governments who wont do something for their own people
and yes i am cynical !

LittleBearPad · 14/11/2014 18:54

It's wasn't very appropriate in the context of a famine tbf Diving

divingoffthebalcony · 14/11/2014 18:55

Well, quite.

thatsentertainment · 14/11/2014 19:53

Not again, come up with something more original!
It's just so cheesy.

Can just imagine who no doubt will appear on this version/video, obviously Bob and Midge (what else do they do nowadays), 1D, Ellie Golding, probably Little Mix, Olly Murs, Chris Martin, maybe a couple of JLS, possibly Gary Barlow, Paloma Faith.

Ed Sheeran will hopefully steer well clear.

I wont buy it. Will donate to charity as usually do.

AuntieStella · 14/11/2014 19:57

".. 3 countries whose governments choose to spend their wealth on things other than sewage systems and running water..."

Wealth? What weath? Sierra Leone is 3rd poorest country in the world, isn't it?

JohnFarleysRuskin · 14/11/2014 20:01

Anyways I'm happy to support the fight against Ebola.

Hassled · 14/11/2014 20:08

I didn't actually realise there was ever more than the original one. I hate that song. Except you're not allowed to hate it, are you, because it's worthy and money-raising and all. So yes - write another worthy money-raising song except this time leave out references to snow in Africa.

MrsCurrent · 15/11/2014 22:20

Blimey I didn't mean for this to be political or suggest they shouldn't raise money, each to their own on that score, I work for and raise money for charities of my choice and don't judge others' choices. I'm just fed up of hearing what was once a pretty cool song destroyed by muppets such as one direction! Surely if they can write one good song they can squeeze a new Christmas tune out!

somewheresomehow · 16/11/2014 15:42

yeah but that would mean Bono, Geldof and the rest having to get together at some point and they probably cant stand each other in real life

Spidermama · 16/11/2014 15:48

What CaptainJaneSafeway said, word for word.

I cringed at the lyrics even back then. So embarrassing.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 16/11/2014 17:48

And no they don't necessarily know it's Christmas because a lot of the people you are talking about are Muslims or from another religion and don't celebrate Christmas

Hahaha yes I always thought that!

I don't actually mind the song (the original) or the concept, but it think recording it again is yawnsome.

MrsMaker83 · 17/11/2014 15:18

Who gives a toss aslong as it raises money?

After the year he's had, he should be applauded for having the energy to throw himself into something like this.

PuppyMonkey · 17/11/2014 15:30

Well tonight we're reaching out and touching you

Is what Bono sings now.

Does this help? Grin

Triooooooooooo · 17/11/2014 16:09

Am I the only one who cant see anyones comments ??!

Triooooooooooo · 17/11/2014 16:11

Even my own ??! Oh ffs, mumsnet is broken. Heeeeeeeeelp.

I can only see the op.

Btw op, I quite like the song.

Enjorasdream · 17/11/2014 16:13

I have just seen the video for the song; the one with the body of a lady being removed by staff in hazard suits. Absolutely outrageous. I fully appreciate it is stark reality, but she is treated with such a lack of dignity. To have that image of her remains treated so disrespectfully to promote a pop song is beyond belief.
I wonder how Bob would have reacted if a charity asked for the scene of crime photos taken after his daughters death to be used in a drug awareness music video?

Joolsy · 17/11/2014 16:13

I like this one better than the last 2 ones, and still like the original. And at least this one hasn't got bloody Dido on it

raltheraffe · 17/11/2014 16:14

I think YABU.

Buying the song gets money donated to people in need.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy the song, it is optional.

windchime · 17/11/2014 16:18

They have changed some of the words to suit the cause, but you can clearly see Harry Styles singing 'feed the world' when it is supposed to be 'heal the world' Smile

Joolsy · 17/11/2014 21:40

Apparently lyrics are Feed the World x 2, then Heal the World
