It was always planned for tonight, best weather conditions over the weekend for where I am and all that.

However I'v just remembered that its remembrance Sunday today. Am I going to come across as totally insensitive?

I'm completely fed up with them too. Have two dogs who bark everytime one goes off.

Am I the only one who thinks they are a complete waste of money? May as well just set fire to a bunch of fivers. Be safer too.

Bowlersarm · 09/11/2014 14:53

I think it's fine.

I think the weekend before is fine, and I think the weekend after is fine.

My dog doesn't like them either. But I don't think that is enough reason to spoil people's fun.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 14:56

People round here are completely irresponsible - we are in a city and very few people have enough space so set them off too close to buildings/under trees

Last night we had them past midnight. I was hoping tonight would be quiet!!

Gillian1980 · 09/11/2014 14:57

All of our pets are terrified of fireworks but I don't expect to spoil everyone's celebrations because of it.

We get them in the room with us, put the tv or stereo up a bit, give them plenty if fuss and reassure them.

If you know it's going to go on then you plan ahead and put steps in place to prepare. It's not that difficult. Even when working shifts we've managed to juggle it or ask someone else to help out.

It was certainly not the case around here to have fireworks on any other night until comparatively recently. Definitely not in the 70s and 80s - but it seemed to become more usual after the millennium.

Back in the day (old gimmer) Bonfire Night in my town meant a few fireworks in the garden and then going around all the various bonfires in different parts of the town and on the beach. People took these really seriously - they were huge. Until the mid-90s we had a bonfire in the field at the end of our street and it was a great community occasion.

Yabu. Yab many, many things I'm too polite to say. It's not the 5th of November. I can think of a few places to put your fireworks.
It's ridiculous that an absolute non event has been drawn out to last weeks, just to piss off people with pets and/or young children. Worse that you think I should expect it. Nope nope nope.

poolomoomon · 09/11/2014 16:20

Yabu. Yy to it's bonfire night not week. It's been going on for far too long now, sick to the back teeth of it. Last night had morons setting them off at 1.30 am directly behind my house and they were so fucking loud. Also blasting shit music till 3 am beside the big bonfire they built ILLEGALLY on council land. I'm knackered and NOT happy.

Enough is enough. It's bad enough they were going off the weekend before bonfire night but I excused that thinking "well, school holidays and all that." But they've gone off every night this week and then last nights shenanigans. I'm fuming. BAN THE BASTARDS.

You won't die if you don't let them off for one year. You will almost definitely piss your neighbours off if you set them off tonight, four days after bonfire night and on a school/work night. Poor animals and small children... They're so antisocial.

dexter73 · 09/11/2014 16:25

There were no official fireworks displays where I live on 5th November, they have all been this Friday and Saturday. I think you should have your fireworks tonight.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 09/11/2014 16:26

Good grief what a fuss.

Of course it's ok op. We have Diwali fireworks around by us and often people have them for birthdays.

We do fireworks on my late mil/fil birthdays.

Don't do too many and not too late.

Floralnomad I wouldn't have a party that was intrusive on the peace and quiet of others - such as letting off loud fireworks which cannot be avoided. I'd respect the decision of those who decided not to attend the birthday party if I absolutely had to hold it on that day, but in all honesty I'd hold the birthday party the day before.

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/11/2014 16:40

It wouldn't bother me unless you were doing them very late.

I've had quite of lot of fireworks going off where I live for a few weeks now. Started with Diwali and will continue on in dribs and drabs until after New Year. And then pick up again for Chinese New Year.

Patrickstarisabadbellend · 09/11/2014 16:46

I've been finding random used fireworks in my garden from my neighbours.

I did the responsible thing and went to an organised display but most of my neighbours didn't. I have had 2 weeks of bloody fireworks and it's annoying!

Now I have to clean up stray fireworks before my animals get them.

They need to be banned!

CharmQuark · 09/11/2014 16:55

YANBU, it sounds like a modest selection of tame fireworks, and just don't do it late at night, as it is a Sunday/ school night etc.

CharmQuark · 09/11/2014 16:56

I have firework debris in my garden on and off for 10 days or so....and cat shit all year round, dog dirt on pavements all year round...

Live and let live, folks!

Niamhisnotarealname · 09/11/2014 19:54

Well, for anyone who is interested we had a really nice afternoon/evening. Hot-dogs, mushy peas and jacket potatoes followed by half an hour of fireworks which my little boy really enjoyed and all done and dusted by 6pm :D
