I have a 'friend' on FB who must eat every meal out, and insists on photographing it with the caption 'Nom nom'. It makes me want to scream!

What's wrong with yum yum if you must say something? It's worked fine for decades as far as I can tell. And nommy as in 'nommy Nandos' is an adjective, not a verb.

Reading through this thread, I feel as though I have found my people.

The expression "nom nom" makes me feel sick with rage. I thought it was just me being snotty, but I'm so glad their are more of you out there.

It's infantile and grim in equal measure.

Do those who hate "nom" also hate "yum"? They are basically just two different ways of writing the same sound.

I hate both, by the way, and no child of mine shall ever utter the word "yummy".

Can't bloody stand it. It's bad enough when used in reference to food, but my sister's boyfriend uses it as a comment on pictures of her on Facebook. As in "Nom nom, my fit bird". Gives me the RAGE.

(And yes, I know it's my fault for having Facebook in the first place, but I actually have him 'hidden' so I don't see his posts, but the odd thing still gets through. Unfortunately!)

I completely agree with you OP, just hearing it makes me stabby. As the owner of teenaged girls, I hear it a lot, even more so now they know it annoys me so much.

I hate it. However the rage I feel when I see the word 'gorjus' or 'gawjus' makes nom nom pale into insignificance.

Doesn't bother me, but there are so many other twee phrases that set my teeth on edge. Fortunately most of those conversations are during interactions at work, so I can separate that from my real life.

Yum or yummy is fine because it's been round for years. Nom nom hasn't. Even typing it makes me want to hit the wine.

In the style of that famous poster. I hate it, it makes me think of pigs and troughs!!

It's also a brand. A young boy makes food with it. Gluten free or something.
