Dh doesn't believe it's worth having a flu jab. I've booked kids in to have it in morn. I'm at a gym class . He's just said he won't take them. I'm mad . Should I be??

I have never had the flu jab neither has my dd. If you are healthy what is the point?
Those people I know who do get the jab end up with flu like symptoms. Why would I want to inflict that on myself & my child.

I agree with your DH. I wouldn't be taking my dd to something that I didn't agree with.

"I have to remind him to wash his hands after coming home I the tube before to plays with the kids, he thinks I'm a nutter"

Seriously?

Are you particularly worried about illnesses? I wouldn't think to (or be worried about) washing hands after tube travel, before playing with kids. I was a nurse before I had children. Confused

3littlefrogs · 09/11/2014 10:33

I am a nurse and I wash my hands every time I come through my front door. Especially if I have been on the tube.
Hand washing is the most effective way of preventing all sorts of infections.

I also have the flu jab - I have had flu twice in my life; while I recognise that the jab doesn't prevent all strains of flu, I think every little helps.

YABU

It is a joint parenting decision to make. Not yours. He has valid reasons against it, it's not just that he can't be arsed. Legally he could actually prevent you giving it to them (if he felt that strongly) just as you could legally fight him to give it to them.

I won't give it. Every single family member who's taken it has had an awful reaction - where they wished they had just suffered flu as the reaction lasted months of feeling like they had flu.

Kids need to build up immunity, I can understand someone immune compromised having it but just can't fathom why people don't want their kids to build up natural immunity and excercise their own immune systems.

I'm not anti-vax btw, but I do understand that every vax has it's risks as well as pro's. I'm not convinced the flu has more pro's than risks for healthy children.

Oh... And I always wash my hands when I come in. So do my kids. It's not that odd is it???

Bedsheets4knickers · 10/11/2014 21:43

Lougle you wouldn't wash your hand after a tube ride, thank The Lord your no longer nursing

I'd wash my hands before patient contact, naturally. Hmm

RevoltingPeasant · 10/11/2014 22:10

Just to set aside the stories of extreme reactions, I had my first ever flu jab on Sat and have a mildly sore patch on my arm, like a small bruise. That's it.

I think that is a much more common reaction so I'd take my DC to have it unless I knew they were likely to react badly.

I don't really get his point about the different strains. Having the flu jab won't prevent you getting diabetes either but it will greatly reduce the chances of your having that one common strain of flu, so why not?

RevoltingPeasant · 10/11/2014 22:11

*set alongside, not aside! Not setting aside anyone's experiences!

Bedsheets4knickers · 10/11/2014 22:18

He's actualy ok about taking them , if he was dead set against it he wouldn't of took them. My son had it last year he had a day of high temp glazed eyes for about 24 hours 2 days after shot. This evening both kids looked peaky but they've gone to bed with calpol and so far all is quiet. I'm all for building immunity but they'll build it with the jab hopefuly without having to suffer full blown flu. X
