Me, Labour.

OP posts:
ihavenonameonhere · 05/11/2014 14:36

Tory here. Live in a swing seat, it's going to be interesting!

hellsbellsmelons · 05/11/2014 14:44

Tory here -
Couldn't vote Labour. The thought of listening to that awful nasal-eee man all the time just turns my stomach. If they had a different leader then it may make a difference. But not with Ed in charge. Yeuuukkk....

Xenadog · 05/11/2014 14:58

I've already begun worrying about who to vote for. DP is a Tory councillor but I've always been very left of centre. At the moment I can't imagine voting for anyone. I will vote but imagine I will ruin my ballot paper.

I live in a traditional Tory/liberal area but in the European election Ukip did quite well. I dread to think if that is replicated.

Slowdownsally · 05/11/2014 14:59

I'm in a Tory marginal with lib dem. labour are nowhere here.

I will probably vote green as hell would have to freeze over for me to vote for lib dem or Tories.

fluffyraggies · 05/11/2014 15:13

Thank you HugeManatee :) (for doing some tallying back there)

It's so depressing. I've reached my 40s and for the first time in my life i actually feel depressed about the state of politics. No faith in any of them really.

Rebecca2014 · 05/11/2014 15:14

UKIP.

FannyFifer · 05/11/2014 15:25

I'm pretty horrified by the amount of people voting UKIP on here, who knew there were so many racist, bigoted, misogynist folk on mumsnet.

LividofLondon · 05/11/2014 15:29

Green party. I really wish their image was different though as many people don't place environment as a priority and think that's all the Greens stand for. But they are really a good old fashioned left wing party who stand for making our country more equal and the only party seriously opposed to privitisation of the NHS fuck you tories and your Health and Social Care (privatisation by stealth) Act. Their manifesto and policies are worth a read if you have a spare couple of minutes.

JackSkellington · 05/11/2014 15:52

I'm pretty horrified by the amount of people voting UKIP on here

It's scary.

applemac · 05/11/2014 15:53

I'm a natural Green voter but since I live in a swing seat I'll be voting Labour in an attempt to keep out the Tories.

applemac · 05/11/2014 16:06

I don't think so many people would actually vote UKIP in a general election. At least I bloody hope not.

MmeGuillotine · 05/11/2014 16:13

Green.

peggyundercrackers · 05/11/2014 16:19

as usual I can see the liberal left wingers have resorted to name calling instead of engaging in debate...

I live in an SNP area however I wouldn't vote for them if they were the last party on earth.

vote labour? after 13 years of crap they fed us and given the state of the country and economy when they lost power I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole either - I don't trust miliband or balls and none of them have the decency to say they messed up last time - their economic policies only care about what they can borrow if they get into power - they couldn't run a bun fight in a bakery... if they did get in they would be ruined after 4 yrs because they will make an even bigger mess...

would I vote for clegg? will anyone vote for him this time around?

that leaves UKIP or tories - not sure I agree with all their policies but at least the tories seem to be making a bit of an effort to fix the economy - the figures are going the right way now and things are looking up a little so they would probably get my vote.

mumeeee · 05/11/2014 16:41

No idea at the moment

MrSheen · 05/11/2014 16:45

Do the people who vote Tory because they believe they are better for the economy worry about rising income inequality and the impact that has?

Missunreasonable · 05/11/2014 16:59

^^ or the fact that the deficit is bigger now than it was when labour were in power because the coalition has borrowed more money?

Do people really believe that the coalition have got the economy under control?

Missunreasonable · 05/11/2014 17:03

Sorry this links figures don't show the current years figures, but it gives an insight into govt economics over the past couple of decades

www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2010/oct/18/deficit-debt-government-borrowing-data

Perhaps someone has a link showing this years too?

maddy68 · 05/11/2014 17:11

Green or pirate party.
Conservatives are clueless, lib dems too woolly
Labour woudk have my vote if it wasn't for unelectable millaband

Sallyingforth · 05/11/2014 17:12

I'm pretty horrified by the amount of people voting UKIP on here, who knew there were so many racist, bigoted, misogynist folk on mumsnet.

^^^ Yes. Unfortunately the major parties are all so crap at the moment that a lot of people are looking for a change. I desperately hope they will not vote UKIP in the GE, but do we really want yet more of the same?

HesterShaw · 05/11/2014 17:16

Greens

Crazyative · 05/11/2014 17:52

Yes, I concur, it's horrifying to think of anyone voting UKIP . But sadly I don't think all people vote with their heads. Adam Curtis in his excellent documentary series Century of the Self showed how it is unfortunately the swing voters that decide elections and how little it has to do with real political issues (Episode 4 in the series focuses on that: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Century_of_the_Self)

He also showed how political parties create enemies to win votes in the series The Power of Nightmares and how malleable we are (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_of_Nightmares).

Unfortunately, not all people want facts, it's much easier to decide allegiances or dislikes based on tabloid or news headlines (I had a kitchen fitter who began each morning by reading the Daily Mail before starting work and then spent the rest of the day quoting the so called "news" stories as evidence of the evils of muslims and bulgarians — I'm pretty sure I know which way he's voting in May). In reality, there's a wealth of information out there that we could use to gain some insight into what any party tells us is the "truth". It took one second to find the following article debunking UKIP mantras:

www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/kieran-turner-dave/the-top-10-ukip-arguments_b_4650602.html

I don't want this current government and only if I had a lobotomy might it be possible to persuade me to vote UKIP. I always vote tactically, no other choice at present.

kilmuir · 05/11/2014 17:57

Tory, dear me do not want a repeat of Labour balls up that has taken years to correct

mrspremise · 05/11/2014 18:03

Another Plaid Cymru voter here

meikyo · 05/11/2014 18:06

SNP here

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 05/11/2014 18:28

um, hellsbellsmelons, you do realise you're supposed to vote on a set of policies and principles by which the country will be run for the next 4-5 years, right? Not on whether someone's voice is annoying or not...

Honestly, people complain about politicians all being the same/slimy/corrupt, but sometimes I strongly suspect we have the politicians we deserve.
