To think my friend is being way to serious about this?

Dd is 5 and can't get the word ' animal' right. She says aminal.
I find it cute and do correct her but gently remind her and she has a think about it and when she says it slowly she gets it right.
But like I said I find it cute and am guessing she will grow out of it.

Df was round earlier and dd mentioned something about animals but said it the wrong way and df told her she said it wrong but dd wasn't really listening as she was running about with the puppy.
Anyway df had a bit of a go at me about how can I let her talk like that kids will make fun of her , do I not care? You get the picture.
I told her to lighten up dd would be fine and changed the subject. But when she left she was still moody.

Aibu to think she's a kid she'll grow out of it?

My son won't say Postman Pat. He insists on Postman's hat!

CrumpleHornedSnorkack · 04/11/2014 08:54

Things still said in our house:

Sketti (spaghetti)
Escupators (escalators)
Chish and fips (fish and chips)
Hoppital (hospital)
Sophia (sphere)
Lahsagknee (lasagne)

hellsbellsmelons · 04/11/2014 09:35

My DD still can't say 'specifically'
No idea why. She can say everything else.
And tell your 'friend' that my DD is nearly 17!!!!

MillionToOneChances · 04/11/2014 09:59

A very bright 8 year old I look after said aminal by accident just last night. We all laughed and he made a song out of it. Your friend needs to chill out a bit.

yackity · 04/11/2014 10:02

We had Sliplers for slippers, (I lurve that term!!!) Eleplanes (great mental image!!) and Lellow (DS2 still holding onto that one for now).

They're adorable, and if it's only a couple of words rather than a distinct sound that they always get wrong, it will generally sort itself out.

My frieinds mum said multi corey star park and she is 65. yanbu op.

3boys40 · 04/11/2014 10:06

the best one though was my eldest at 2 calling ds 2 my bugger for brother. I had to gently repeat that one correctly

Lancelottie · 04/11/2014 10:08

My favourite was DS getting 'very incited about the hoddilays' every summer and half-term till he was about 6.

PlumpingUpPartridge · 04/11/2014 10:39

Ds is into being a detective atm and keeps asking for the magic flying glass. I say it correctly myself but I love when he says that Grin

TheLastThneed · 04/11/2014 11:03

DoubleU I have always said 'anenome' and was was recently put right by 4yo DD. I thought she was saying it incorrectly Blush

LittleBairn · 04/11/2014 11:16

Why would you be friends with someone who questions if you care for your children?
She sounds like the type who believes her parenting methods are superior to all others and makes sure everyone else knows it.

Chopstheduck · 04/11/2014 11:22

dt2 used to pronounce it anmal. When he was very small, he was learning to say 'pardon' after a burp. After a particularly loud one, his dad said 'you animal!', and he retorted 'anmal parda'. It stuck for a while!

He is 9 now, and he def can pronounce animal and pardon correctly. Though we still use one of his other mannerisms. He used to ask for things by saying bit after. Bikkit bit. Hunger bit. drink bit. So we still say things like hunger bit in our house!

You def have to make the most of these days, they soon fly by. :)

EmptyNestAgain · 04/11/2014 11:23

She is BVU. Your littlun will grow out of it, probably. And if not, it's no great thing. My DF, (74) still says gat port air wick. We know what he means. I have always said 'chiminee'. My DS1 called his grandfather 'Bippy' when he was tiny. (That one stuck!) it's all part of family life.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 04/11/2014 11:54

My Dsis used to say "Oddinge" instead of "Orange" and "Lellow" instead of "Yellow" She speaks perfectly fine as a 15 yr old.

DD cant say "Sydney" she says "Signey"

patronisingbitchinthewardrobe · 04/11/2014 13:43

Your friend is ridiculous. Your child is only just getting to grips with language. When she reads the word, she'll work out how to say it properly. There is no problem here. Well, there is. Its your friend.

My son used to say wingwing for penguin and 'e you' for 'love you'. I miss those days! He grew out of it by the time he was 3 or 4 - it's no big deal, most kids, I'm sure, have some words that take longer to get right than others! Your friend sounds as if she needs to get a bit of a life!

Chopstheduck · 04/11/2014 17:02

Benedict Cumberbatch still can't say penguins! Grin

patronisingbitchinthewardrobe · 04/11/2014 19:02

My granddad died just short of 90, still believing he had crossed the 'specific' ocean several times...

CalamityKate1 · 04/11/2014 19:12

DS2 used to call squirrels "kiffles" but sadly grew out of it despite me actively encouraging it :(

SunshineDaisiesButterMellow · 04/11/2014 19:36

Thanks for the reassurance. Loved reading all the cute things your dcs say or said.

I have no idea why df reacted like she did and I dare not ask as I don't want another lecture Grin
Just sitting happy in the knowledge that about a hundred people agree with me!
