Too similar or ok? Thoughts?

Maybe if they were cats it would be fine but for human children I would say you are being unreasonable. Very similar and cutesy.

Thisghosttrainisreversing · 31/10/2014 23:31

Eek no.

53Dragon · 31/10/2014 23:31

yes and your parents' generation will all be thinking of Maggie Thatcher Don't do it! Grin

WorraLiberty · 31/10/2014 23:33

I don't think the similarity is the problem

For me, it's just such an old fashioned name.

MonanaGellar · 31/10/2014 23:33

YABU. Too similar! And too simpsons-esque!

DoughnutSelfie · 31/10/2014 23:41

Please not Maggie, urgh.

Maggie = Margaret = Marguerite = Daisy. There you go.

Or how about Mollie. Then maybe have a third gal and call 'er Mandy.

You know you wanna.

DramaAlpaca · 31/10/2014 23:41

No, not a good combination, sorry.

Maggie just isn't a nice name, IMO, and will forever remind me of Maggie Thatcher I am probably of your parents' generation

Mrsstarlord · 31/10/2014 23:50

I'm just depressed that people like me are being referred to as 'your parents generation' Sad

spamanderson · 31/10/2014 23:54

Ha ha, Maggie is what our next one will be called if we get another girl. I love the name and it's in honour of my nan who is a wonderful woman. BUT I do think it's just too similar to Millie. (And I'm in my 20s so definitely not of your parents generation ;) )

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 31/10/2014 23:59

I have a name which starts with the same letter as my younger sister's and it was always fine. I think your issue is more with the shortened versions. Is your DD' s official name Millie or is it Amelia/Emilia/Emily? Similarly would DD2 be registered as Maggie or Margaret? If they are registered with the longer names there's more licence to adapt the names over time.

And for what it's worth I like Margaret - I think it's a classic and very adaptable name. Smile

I think they are fine together and I love Maggie

BitchesGetStuffDone · 01/11/2014 00:15

Yabu if those are their proper first names. If they are nicknames then it's fine.

Silverdaisy · 01/11/2014 00:17

I would go for Margaret, but leave Millie (I know so many dogs called that)

OpalQuartz · 01/11/2014 00:18

Leave Millie? Leave her where? She's the op's little girl.

musicalendorphins2 · 01/11/2014 00:21

Not unless they are puppies.

musicalendorphins2 · 01/11/2014 00:23

The suggestion for Daisy (as a short form for Margaret) was good though.

DoughnutSelfie · 01/11/2014 00:24
Silverdaisy · 01/11/2014 00:26

Apologies, I misread it as either or. I would still go for Margaret though and then shorten to Maggie, Peggie etc (if necessary)

OiGiveItBack · 01/11/2014 00:40

I like the mane Maggie but it's really similar to Millie so I wouldn't choose it for a sibling. I accidentally gave my DS's name that were too similar (they start with the same sound) and it was a bit of a mistake. Not a disaster but not great iykwim Grin
I like the name Mags Smile

TheGrandPooBah · 01/11/2014 00:51

Magpie is fine, if you like it. Who cares if a bunch of random strangers you've never met don't? The names are not really that similar. I know a Patrick, called Pat, whose sister, Patricia, is also called Pat. Also a woman at my school called her son Shane and daughter Shannon.

If you like it, do it.

peasandlove · 01/11/2014 01:17

what about molly instead ? Wink

peasandlove · 01/11/2014 01:18

oh oops see that's been suggested already. That'll teach me for skim reading

Trufflethewuffle · 01/11/2014 07:27

I have known two people called Maggie. Both had long stringy yellow blonde hair and were known as scraggy Maggie. So for me, I would never use the name for a child of mine but it is your choice.
