To think this hotel policy is rather odd!

I was on a work related course today. It was a bit of a distance so I decided to book into a hotel local to the course. So yesterday I booked in 4 ish, made myself at home, get my clothes out ready for next day, treated myself to a pre-dinner bath and glass of wine, and wandered out to find tea. I got back to the hotel in the dark at half 8 to find a man in my room. Frightened the life out of me! He quickly explained he was room service doing a tidy up. Eh? I had not asked for room service, had only booked in 4 hours ago, and felt very intruded upon. Knickers both clean and dirty scattered around! Am I the only one who thinks that this was a weird time to do room service?

I love a turn down service. Bins emptied, bedside lights on, stupid cushions removed. I would like it at home Grin

TheGonnaghoul · 28/10/2014 19:41

I love turndown! Random gifts of biscuits/chocolates and a freshly made bed, lighting adjusted to evening, curtains drawn etc.
We stayed in a wonderful hotel in Malaysia where you were offered a selection of scents on arrival. Every evening they came and set a diffuser in the room so we returned after dinner to wafts of lemongrass.

steff13 · 28/10/2014 19:45

If it was turndown service, though, why wouldn't he just say turndown service instead of calling it room service?

Libitina · 28/10/2014 19:46

How many knickers does a person need for one night??

Pinot4me · 28/10/2014 19:47

I always put the DND sign on the door. Hate people coming in and out. If you weren't expecting it, you must have got a fright. I doubt it's anything dodgy though!

LemonadeRayGun · 28/10/2014 20:02

I have genuinely need heard of turn down service! I need to posh my life up a bit I think!

ILovePud · 28/10/2014 20:27

Bloody hell, I'm glad I've read this thread, I'd never heard of this or have anticipated this was a possibility, no more leaving my pants on hotel floors before going out for the evening for me!

Are the people who have implied that there might be something slightly strange or dodgy about this familiar with a turndown service or do they genuinely think it's likely that this is a bit odd or suspicious?

NoTedInTheBed · 28/10/2014 20:48

Growing - the image of your flower stuffed bra is hilarious! Grin

Totally standard practice. Draw curtains, remake bed, rinse cups and restock tea caddy, fold towels, top up loo roll, choccy on the pillow, empty the bins.

Marvellous!

D'you know, I've never stayed a hotel where I felt the need to throw all of my pants all around the room when I got there.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/10/2014 21:04

You weren't sharing with the right person.

I bet daniel Craig's wife's a knicker flinger.

Poofus · 28/10/2014 21:06

I've never not.

Siarie · 28/10/2014 21:08

Good old turn down service, I like it. It's the norm for the hotels I stay at and they usually do it after dinner. Everything's really cosy when you get back for bed.

coraltoes · 28/10/2014 21:09

Turn down service... Totally normal. Quick tidy of room, replenish towels, close curtains etc. how have you never had this?

CaptainAnkles · 28/10/2014 21:10

One pair at a time maybe. But never, like, a week's worth of pants just catapulted around. I've led a sheltered life.

NorksAreMesssy · 28/10/2014 21:13

I have a similar knicker scattering and chocolate delivery and curtain closing service at home.
I am well posh

ElephantsNeverForgive · 28/10/2014 21:14

Yuck, I'll stick to Premier Inn.
For one night I'd expect my hotel room to be my private space.

vestandknickers · 28/10/2014 21:18

Why did you scatter your knickers though?

And why did you have enough knickers to scatter if you're only staying for one night?

ClashCityRocker · 28/10/2014 21:24

Well, she'd have had her ones for the day, and probably put on a fresh pair for the evening - maybe she's one of those weirdos people who wear knickers to bed? Then there's tomorrow, and a spare just in case...there's five pairs right there...

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 28/10/2014 21:25

Normally there is a "Do Not Disturb" sign which can be hung outside the door and will prevent any turndown service.

ClashCityRocker · 28/10/2014 21:25

But I hate turn down service.

And the morning clean. I really hate other people making 'my' bed.
