I locked my son in the garden.

I have four kids, 3 are legal adults.
I got up early for work one morning and noticed the patio door was unlocked. I thought that one of the older kids 21yrs had been smoking in garden or using our little log cabin late at night and forgot to lock door.
I locked the door and went to work.

had to turn down volume of phone for work and missed 8 calls.
turns out son was in shed and 21yr old son needed to get ready for work. he also needed to respond to an urgent call of nature.

eldest son 23 yrs was in bed, but didnt respond to bashing on windows, phone calls or throwing of rabbit poo on window < we have a pet rabbit> but older son doenst wake up when in deep sleep. needs at least 3 alarm clocks to wake him up.

neighbour helped in the end.

however son says that as he was very very late for work I am at fault for him nearly loosing his job.
AIBU in saying it was all his own fault for not getting in to his own bed at reasonable time?

was the son you locked in the garden hiding in the shed?

maggiethemagpie · 24/10/2014 23:26

It was an accident. No one's fault. Let it go.

FelixFelix · 24/10/2014 23:27

What on earth was he even doing in the shed late at night?

Icimoi · 24/10/2014 23:27

Entirely his own fault. How on earth were you supposed to guess that you should have checked the shed on the off chance that he might be in there? It was highly irresponsible of him to leave the patio door unlocked overnight anyway. He should have locked it behind him (if that's possible) and would have then been able to unlock it from the outside when he needed to go back in.

futterwacken · 24/10/2014 23:29

It’s his own responsibility to make sure he is sleeping in a sensible place ie not in the shed, and if he wants to spend the night in the garden perhaps hold a key... but it was an accident, not a huge deal.

AgentZigzag · 24/10/2014 23:33

Love the '3 are legal adults' Grin

Like it's a mantra you're chanting and trying to believe.

And Grin at him thinking the shed was a great place to crash.

YANBU, he chose to stay in there/get settled down/let himself fall asleep, how could you have possibly known??

eragon · 24/10/2014 23:34

The shed is full of music stuff. one son does that horrible drum and bass stuff, another does folk music with mandolins and guitars.

both hubby and I hate that sort of music, so glad is at end of garden.

btw son 21yrs said he was working on updating his CV early in the morning. i dont believe him. the last time I saw him awake at 7.20 he was under 2yrs old.

'The shed is full of music stuff. one son does that horrible drum and bass stuff, another does folk music with mandolins and guitars. '

That sounds like a pretty awesome 'shed'.

And your DSs sound great, which do you dislike the most: drum and bass or unkempt beard?

WorraLiberty · 24/10/2014 23:38

the last time I saw him awake at 7.20 he was under 2yrs old. Grin Grin

It's not your fault. It's not his fault either that he fell asleep....just one of those things.

chunkythighs · 24/10/2014 23:39

Not your fault! son should have been responsible enough not to leave the house unlocked all night. It's not like you did it on purpose.

He won't let it happen again will he?

FelixFelix · 24/10/2014 23:39

Sounds like my kind of shed!

Icimoi · 24/10/2014 23:40

Why does he claim to have chosen the shed to update his CV? Wouldn't it have been more comfortable doing it indoors?

eragon · 24/10/2014 23:41

21yrs does the drum and bass stuff, the 23yr old has the overly hairy beard thingy.

caught 23yr old trimming beard with sainsburys carrier bag hooked over ears once standing looking in the hall mirror. I thought the bag as reasonably sensible, but using the KITCHEN scissors was unacceptable.

futterwacken · 24/10/2014 23:42

Oh, of course. CV writing is best done in a shed full of mandolins.

GahLinDah · 24/10/2014 23:42

Agree, your family sounds brilliant, do they ever do R&B/Folksy Mash Ups? Grin

LadyLuck10 · 24/10/2014 23:44

Grin You sound like a cool person op.

eragon · 24/10/2014 23:46

son 21yrs had computer and tech stuff all in shed to make horrible music he decided to use computer to redo his CV

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 24/10/2014 23:47

He was 'updating his CV' Icimoi, not making sure his CV was up to date and ready to use Wink

Bakeoffcakes · 24/10/2014 23:47

Grin Tesco bag over his ears!

That is bloody hilarious!

eragon · 24/10/2014 23:48

I can just imagine your son trying to explain why he was late Grin

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 24/10/2014 23:53

If you leave the house, you have to make sure that you have the means to get back in. He should have taken his keys with him. It is entirely reasonable to lock an external door.
