to think that MNers abuse acronyms

when talking about DP, DC, LO and the nasty FIL. I find even more confusing when they start mixing common (or medical) acronyms with MN ones to speak about TTC with PCOS and looking for CD to DC.

Grrrrr, if you are ACAM (as confused as me), speak now or forever hold your peace. TIA

There's an acronym list you can look at if you're on the desktop site.

If you read through that things might start to become clearer.

There was a massive one last year with Qs in it.. something like PTQTOCQACIQ...

I asked, but never learned what it meant...

Oh come on, it's not that hard. Use the acronym list and if you come up against one you don't know if you ask on the thread someone will usually help fairly quickly.

These acronyms aren't specific to MN, they are fairly commonly used across the internet.

BNCF

meerschweinchen · 22/10/2014 22:56

EatDerek should I be worried I can actually understand most of that! Smile

Perhaps I spend too much time on mumsnet...Grin

EatDereksCorpse · 22/10/2014 22:57

Do you?! Grin

BurnBrighterThanTheSun · 22/10/2014 22:58

GP - Grandparents/ Dr
BF - Best friend/boyfriend
DP - Partner/ parents
DF - Friend/ father

It definitely gets confusing at times, even if you use the acronym list.

NotSoSureX · 22/10/2014 22:58

Doesn't feel like learning a new language when you have to keep looking up word in a dictionary ?! or like reading a texting thread between 2 teenagers :)

Saw an annoyingly long one the other day, that loads of cross posts asked what it meant, can't remember what it was now

NF! M. I. O.

WorraLiberty · 22/10/2014 23:00

It used to annoy me when I was new as having to keep referring to the acronyms list was a little annoying.

I still think it's really lazy typing, but I do it too now so WTF Grin

I don't know what the problem is so you are being unreasonable.

Have to admit to defeat on the next bit though. Try reading each thread...? No, don't know!

I'm sure I remember a plaintive little remark a while back from a poster on a similar thread saying how surprised she'd always been that so many Mumsnetters were called Tia!

At the risk of being a pedantic twat, the examples in the op aren't acronyms, they're initialisms. Sorry, I'll bugger off and leave you to it. As you were.
