My appt at 2pm. She stank of garlic as she leaned over me for an hour. I said nothing but she must have been aware as she said sorry if she smells she had garlicky lunch.

I think garlic is a bit different to other things that cause stinky breath because it is excreted through the skin, and so brushing the teeth or eating a whole packet of mints wont make any difference.

I'm saying CONSIDERATION works both ways squoosh. I obviously wasn't suggesting that clients could be turned away for having bad breath. It's just nicer if neither side stink, is it not?

And I've ALREADY said I agree. But that isn't the issue in question.

YANBU., this was explicitly covered in VTCT massage training course and subsequent aromatherapy course (so I would imagine most beauty therapy courses too) not to eat strong smelling foods or use strong smelling perfumes before giving a treatment, for the comfort of the client.
While it doesn't work both ways a therapist can refuse to treat someone who turns up and is unhygienic, so there are some limits.

YABU, it's not up to you what someone else chooses to eat. If it's a problem, go somewhere else.

TheLovelyBoots · 23/10/2014 13:10

YADNBU.

I don't think it's unreasonable at all to think that people shouldn't eat garlicky food when they're going to be freely sharing their breath with others.

I love nothing more than having last night's leftovers for my breakfast the next morning, but I refrain from anything garlicky if I'm meeting with anyone that day. You should really save it for supper.

Which, as the therapist will lose money, may make her think on for the future.

But does a little consideration and common sense hurt? Really?

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/10/2014 17:36

well, I'm surprised she did. Having had someone with garlic breath lean over me while doing my eyelashes . It's horrible but I wouldn't say anything. When I was on reception at a solicitors we weren't allowed to eat any garlic or indian food - not even the night before!

MillyStar · 23/10/2014 18:09

That would make me heave I honestly don't think I could lie there! I work in reception and I won't eat stinky crisps with my lunch, just courtesy I think!

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 23/10/2014 18:13

Not nice op and it would have spoilt it for me too.

Whatsinanamechange · 23/10/2014 18:46

Yanbu, I'm a midwife and would never eat a stinky lunch while on duty. I get to close to the women and they often feel nauseous anyway.
