My appt at 2pm. She stank of garlic as she leaned over me for an hour. I said nothing but she must have been aware as she said sorry if she smells she had garlicky lunch.

OP posts:

Yanbu I can't stand any kind of bad breath makes me feel sick

patronisingbitchinthewardrobe · 22/10/2014 16:28

You seem to have coped.

meanwindwanders · 22/10/2014 16:39

I think garlic tends to come through your pores, really ... not sure teeth brushing or mints would help.

LadyLuck10 · 22/10/2014 16:42

Yanbu, it's horrible especially when they are working on your face.

Once I was having threading done, the beautician had really stinking bad breath and I couldn't take it anymore. I asked her for a tissue and covered my nose. I think she got the message because she excused herself and came back chewing a minty sort of gum.

JabberJabberJay · 22/10/2014 16:47

YANBU.

gentlehoney · 22/10/2014 16:53

The beautician is unreasonable, inconsiderate, and unprofessional and so is anybody else who is wafting garlic directly onto someone.
B.O is not acceptable so why is garlic breath?

Mrsmorton · 22/10/2014 17:42

Patients and clients don't seem to be bothered what they eat though? Onion and a cigarette for lunch? Thanks very much!!

Two way street?

squoosh · 22/10/2014 17:44

It isn't really a two way street though is it, although it would be nice if people were thoughtful. If people are paying for a service their needs should come first.

Aherdofmims · 22/10/2014 17:53

YANBU.

For all we know the OP might have saved up for ages for the treatment and this could have totally ruined it. She should be more sensitive to the job she is in.

Mrsmorton · 22/10/2014 17:55

My patients don't pay for their treatment. Who has more rights there?

Samstown · 22/10/2014 17:56

Testing..

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/10/2014 17:57

YANBU

I'm going for a facial tomorrow, half the experience is the lovely smelling oils etc. I would be so annoyed if the beautician stank of garlic.

I know she won't, because I go there regularly and the staff are all lovely.

Mrsmorton I always make sure i'm clean and smell-neutral before i go to either a spa or to see a HCP. If i can take the trouble so can they.

Samstown · 22/10/2014 17:57

Sorry I was just testing being able to use past usernames just by typing them into the box! Huh?!

No, a beautician shouldn't have garlicky breath, or smelly armpits!

squoosh · 22/10/2014 18:00

My patients don't pay for their treatment. Who has more rights there?

As I said it's nice if people have consideration for the people they'll be interacting with during the day. But in this instance the OP paid for the beautician's services, her needs come first.

divingoffthebalcony · 22/10/2014 18:04

If I was going for a treatment I wouldn't have a stinky lunch either.

It does work both ways.

squoosh · 22/10/2014 18:08

No it really doesn't work both ways.

What beauty salon is going to say 'we won't treat people with garlic breath'? They could if they want, but they'd be pretty stupid to.

Whereas anyone paying for a facial for example would be well within their rights to object to their beautician smelling of garlic or fags.

I know customer service isn't a priority in the UK but it really should be.

MiddletonPink · 22/10/2014 18:12

I had a facial last week at a spa weekend.

The beautician stunk of garlic and talked for the whole hour.

Fucking marvellous.

Yanbu.

starfishmummy · 22/10/2014 18:13

Yanbu.
I was at the opticians last week and the guy who does some of the tests had clearly had something very stinky the night before.

divingoffthebalcony · 22/10/2014 18:18

I'm saying CONSIDERATION works both ways squoosh. I obviously wasn't suggesting that clients could be turned away for having bad breath. It's just nicer if neither side stink, is it not?

VenusRising · 22/10/2014 18:21

You don't smell garlic if you've eaten some yourself.
Which is why I have some everyday!

I draw the line at smoking though.

If someone really reeked of BO it would impair the experience also, but not normal human smells.

But seriously, whet next, curry smells? Broccoli? Olives? Cheese?

OP If you feel strongly about your spa treatment being unrelaxing, you can ring and ask for a refund, or a voucher for another treatment, but really, people smell dontcha know - as do you by the way.......

bigbluestars · 22/10/2014 18:22

I think it works both ways.

I am mindful what I eat or drink before I visit the dentist for instance, avoiding spices, garlic and alcohol for 24 hours, making sure my mouth is freshly brushed and flossed
I expect him to show me the same courtesy.
I had a midwife during the labour of one of my children- she came back from her coffee break stinking of cigarette smoke.

Disgusting.
