Just watched tom whots his name make a tart that contained a breichoe (*) a whole pack of butter and a whole pack of sugar. He said it tasted amazing, but that it hardly surprising!

I'd be more impressed if someone made food not laced in fat and sugar taste amazing, that would take skill.

Nigela probably is a low carber too, despite all her talk of her eating whatever she likes.

Well in a country where millions of people are getting unwell each year and god knows how many passing away due to eating too much junk maybe it would be a good idea for the bbc to show less junk food porn. I know I'm going to get flamed for that but its how I feel.

I made a chocolate frosting with dates, avacadoes and coca. It looked very unhealthy but was the opposite.

I might be able to shed some light on that French "Paradox".

Here in France:

(1) There is enormous pressure to stay slim and look young/good - There is no clothes size above 40 (UK 12) in most stores, you are weighed at every (monthly) pregnancy visit and repeatedly told that you shouldn't be putting on more than 1-2 kgs per month. All my friends are in their 40s and they run, go to the gym on a regular basis, and do yoga/pilates. (So do I).

(2) Food is mostly cooked from scratch and consists mainly of fish/meat/chicken + salad/vegetables. What we call "pizza" is paper thin and bears little relation to the chunk of bread with a thin layer of toppings that we see in the UK. Portions are small, about half the size of a serving in the UK. Very little potato is eaten and I don't remember the last time I saw fried anything on the menu in a restaurant except escalope milanaise which is typically served with salad.

Americans, imo & me are not health-conscious and they don't count calories. What they do is eat a lot of processed food and sweets/chocolate/candy bars. They also lead mostly sedentary lives. It is not a mystery that so many of them are so fat, at all.
