to be so particular about matching socks.

quite cross because someone has paired Fab socks with Fun socks, they are back with writing on the bottom and different colour toes.
and occasionally my son will wear a grey pair matched with a black pair

is there a cure for me?

YANBU

Matching socks are a novelty in my house. There's always one that seems to disappear in the wash.

Greenrug85 · 15/10/2014 09:00

I deliberately wear odd socks, doesn't bother me! Grin

azurepapallo · 15/10/2014 09:01

I think that really you can only be particular about what you wear in your own feet. 19 yo is quite old enough to be making 'style' decisions.

Catsmamma · 15/10/2014 09:03

pairing and/or finding matching socks definitely falls into the Life is TOO short category here.

they all go into a big bag and the sock wearer must rummage to find their joy. It makes the day a little better if they start with a real actual pair. ;)

CrashDiveOnMingoCity · 15/10/2014 09:07

YANBU. I'm really quite anal about my socks and like them to be matching. I have 2 pairs of black socks that look the same but have slightly differing patterns and always feel a bit distressed when I find out I have been wearing one of each. I don't have many first world problems but my need for matching socks is certainly one of them!

Always matching here! And I like to match to the colour of trousers worn. So today I'm wearing grey jeans so have grey socks. I even make my 3 year old find his socks that co ordinate his trousers :)

I also always wear matching underwear, and the children have matching pants and vests...

R4roger · 15/10/2014 09:14

i know life is too short, but it makes me sad

R4roger · 15/10/2014 09:15

actually sock with holes in make me sad, not matching, frustrated and cross, apart from in my 19 year old son, I obviously havent taught him properly!

cherrybombxo · 15/10/2014 09:19

If you're unreasonable, so am I. The thought of wearing odd socks makes me feel deeply uncomfortable.

R4roger · 15/10/2014 09:22

am sitting here sockless currently,

Floggingmolly · 15/10/2014 09:24

This is why all our socks are either black or regulation grey for school. Who has the headspace to worry about where the green spotty sock has disappeared to?

answerthebloodyphone · 15/10/2014 09:27

This is why I always just buy plain black socks these days. That way they all match.

R4roger · 15/10/2014 09:28

very good idea molly.
when my dc were younger i liked the black socks with the size showing. perhaps i should get over this obsession with black with Fun or Fab or even Love written on the bottom with differing toe colours. hmm, that would help

Only black or white socks in our house. It was fine when just me and DH but now I end up with DSs socks.

answerthebloodyphone · 15/10/2014 09:29

cross posts

ZuluBob · 15/10/2014 09:32

I'm a matcher but my DC are not. It pains me.

Yanbu but there is no hope of a cure. The only thing you can. Do to mitigate it is to throw away every sock in the house and rebuy 30 identical pairs.

bonkersLFDT20 · 15/10/2014 09:36

Oh dear. I even pair identical sorts of socks of different ages. I can tell by the wear and how much the black has faded. Cannot stand the feel of odd thickness socks. This is not about look (most people don't see them), it's entirely about feel.

I do get annoyed if DS1 (15) wears odd socks as it's hard to match them up when doing laundry and I do like the personal triumph of a zero-odd sock count.

Hmmm, am I bit uptight?

R4roger · 15/10/2014 09:37

throw them all away ? Shock but, but

Selvedge · 15/10/2014 11:41

YANBU. I will not tolerate odd socks. I only wash matched pairs. There are no duplicate pairs in this house and only 1 plain black pair. To all you "only black and white so no problem" weirdos, how can you live in such disarray? Every time you wash or wear a pair of socks you make it a little bit more individual exacerbating the oddness problem. They look wrong but more importantly feel wrong. Confused

mummylin2495 · 15/10/2014 11:55

My nieces dh is always wearing odd socks, he doesn't care one bit, and yesterday I found a gift box with 6 odd socks in it in a Christmas pack, guess what he is having from us this year !

cozietoesie · 15/10/2014 12:02

I sometimes have a 'sock matching' session in front of a movie on a Sunday afternoon.

It's wonderful to get them all matched up - BUT.

Where do all the other socks actually go ? I've never seen enough unmatched socks lying around in strange places so something must happen to them. I've just never worked out what.

bobbywash · 15/10/2014 12:05

How can anyone ever wear odd socks? - freaks all of them

cherrybombxo · 15/10/2014 12:08

Bonkers I feel so relieved and content when I get a zero odd sock count, it's definitely not just you. I wave my odd sock pile in DP's face regularly, because they're mostly his and I don't understand where they keep getting to!

TheTravellingLemon · 15/10/2014 12:10

My socks have to match. So much so that I deliberately buy colourful ones so I can be sure each one is with its correct partner. If I had all the same they would get mixed up and that would be awful.

I mostly keep myself under control, but if I see someone wearing odd socks it makes me twitch.
