He is miserable, swollen and tearful. Hoping antibiotics kick in soon but if no better tomorrow was likely to keep him at home. He was off today as had emergency dentist and was very sore.

steff13 · 14/10/2014 21:31

Yes, I've had abscesses, and they're awful. Poor guy.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/10/2014 21:32

Of course you're not.

He's feeling miserable, tearful, sore and his mouth is swollen.

Hope the ab's kick in soon
Xxx

flipchart · 14/10/2014 21:32

What a question?
Of course he stays off!

MsVestibule · 14/10/2014 21:33

Of course he should stay off! Is there any particular reason you think he should be going to school?

steff13 · 14/10/2014 21:34

Whoops, when I said "yes," I meant yes it's fine to keep him off. :)

LadyLuck10 · 14/10/2014 21:34

Why do you need approval from strangers?
You're his mum Confused

Marylou2 · 14/10/2014 21:35

Bless him! Day off, antibiotics/analgesia, Sofa, TV and TLC.Hope he's better soon.

somewheresomehow · 14/10/2014 21:35

keep him off, i've had two they are so bloody painful and painkilllers dont help much

grumpalumpgrumped · 14/10/2014 21:36

School pretty good about time off and his attendance is good. Just checking, DH thinks I am soft [hmmm] but he does have empathy issues!

Redhead11 · 14/10/2014 21:36

And an abscess is bloody awful. I had one recur three times over a couple of months, thanks to a totally inept dentist. I was literally suicidal with the pain the first time around. Defo keep him off! Hope he feels better soon.

grumpalumpgrumped · 14/10/2014 21:40

LadyLuck10 you're right but isnt that part of what mumsnet is for? Checking yourself/ideas?

OP posts:
jezzapaxmanslovechild · 14/10/2014 21:44

No - not soft - just caught up in the morass of parenthood amd maybe needing a bit of validation - I would deffo keep him off

JustSpeakSense · 14/10/2014 21:48

No definitely keep him off, an abscess is an awful thing! You're not soft! Smile

YANBU, they're bloody agony even as an adult.

TheCuriousOwl · 14/10/2014 22:03

I do get what you are saying though, it's hard when you've got someone in front of you telling you that you're being soft!

My staff call in sick to me sounding AWFUL sometimes and still say 'but should I come in even though I can't really stand up' and I'm like er no!! Sometimes you just need someone to tell you you're right.

grumpalumpgrumped · 14/10/2014 22:10

Thank you TheCuriosOwl DH thinks dose him up and he might perk up at school, but its not him doing drop off.

ilovesooty · 14/10/2014 22:32

Your husband sounds like an idiot. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

JuniperTisane · 14/10/2014 22:40

Your DH sounds just like my mum. She never saw the value of taking a sick day from school either.

Dental pain is one of the worst types of pain. It nags and insidiously worms its way through you and stops you concentrating until you want to scream. There's a reason why people get prescribed heavy duty painkillers - Tramadol, Dihydrocodeine etc to cope with it.

Tell your DH to ease up a bit. He's only 6.

Sticklebricks · 14/10/2014 22:43

The antibiotics made me feel very spaced and sleepy, so they'll wipe out a six year old.

sunshinenanny · 14/10/2014 22:53

I 'be seen a grown. Man suicidal with abscess pain. Keep the poor child at home till the meds. Kick in!

wanttosqueezeyou · 14/10/2014 22:59

Terribly painful.

Keep him off. Try anything to ease the pain. Heat/ice/clove oil (get it from the chemist, rub it on the gum) alternate paracetamol/ibuprofen.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 14/10/2014 22:59

Of course you're not. He's in pain. He's not going to learn anyway in that state.
The poor poor little lamb. I wouldn't wish tooth ache on my worse enemy.
If I had 3 wishes one of them would be never to get tooth ache again.!
Can't believe your d.h's attitude and if keeping your boy at home in your arms when he's ill makes you soft, then in my book that is no bad thing.
