Which person is BU?

Person 1 and Person 2 are married.

Both are working from home, Person 1 finished at 1pm to go to the gym, Person 2 is still slogging away with paperwork. Person 1 returns from the gym and Person 2 is still doing paperwork.

The children of Person 1 and Person 2 need picking up from school. Its pouring with rain. Normally Person 2 would pick them up, but Person 2 asks Person 1 if they can do it because they can drive, and person 2 is still very busy.

Person 1 then surfs on Ebay for a bit, before finishing off some work. Person 2 comes home from school drenched. Person 1 takes one of the DC's to an out of school club, then goes to Badminton.

Person 2 thinks that Person 1 should have helped them out by doing the school run. Person 1 thinks that the fact that they took DC to an after school club means that they are equal.

Why did Person 1 not do the school run?

laurenamium · 14/10/2014 10:41

Person 1 is being U

IsabellaofFrance · 14/10/2014 10:42

Because normally Person 2 does it, and because that person was going to be taking one of the DC's to a club.

I think person 1 was unreasonable, given they seem to have had more free time for themself in the day.

One question - did person 2 manage to finish the paperwork before picking the kids up from school, or did person 2 have to finish it later that afternoon / evening?

Ludways · 14/10/2014 10:44

Person 1 is BU

GoodboyBindleFeatherstone · 14/10/2014 10:44

Person 1 is being unreasonable. How the hell can someone stand back and let their child/ten get drenched in the rain when there's an alternative?
Person 1 is a twat.

AlmaMartyr · 14/10/2014 10:46

Person 1 is being unreasonable, not fair to let children and Person 2 get wet when they were free, and Person 2 still had work to do.

WorraLiberty · 14/10/2014 10:47

I think you person 2 should have asked person 1 to stop surfing Ebay and go get the kids.

LiverpoolLou · 14/10/2014 10:49

Person 1 is a twat. They should have done the school run without needing to be asked.

Spindarella · 14/10/2014 10:50

Playing devils advocate...does person 1 consider person 2 made a meal out of the paperwork and could have had equal free time if better organised?

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 14/10/2014 10:51

What excuse did Person 1 give for not picking the children up from school, meaning Person 2 had to do it anyway, even though he/she was still clearly busy.

And who cooked dinner and cleared up?

So far, Person 1 is definitely BVU and Person 2 needs a foot putting down!

IsabellaofFrance · 14/10/2014 10:52

No, Person 1 knows there was a lot to do and even helped person 2 finish it at 9.30 last night because there was so much to do.

However Person 1 thinks Person 2 could have done some of it over the weekend.

Spindarella

I think free time is irrelevant here. Person 1 let his/her children get drenched when they could have prevented it. And is, therefore, a twat.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 14/10/2014 10:53

Person 1 goes to the gym, surfs Ebay, then goes to play badminton - that's making a meal of free time!

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 14/10/2014 10:53

Paperwork is irrelevant, it was raining heavily by the sounds of it so Person 1 should have done the school run so Person 2/child(ren) could avoid getting soaked. Person 2 could have taken on an extra school run/taking to activity on another day.

Person 1 is a twat.

Bowlersarm · 14/10/2014 10:53

Maybe Person 1 normally does loads, and was feeling like a bit more time off during the day, especially with dealing with the DC after school clubs later.

redskybynight · 14/10/2014 10:54

I think I'd need to see the bigger picture. Does Person 1 do everything on every other day? Was the paperwork essential or something taht could have been done at another time? Was this Person 1's only time off?

Quite impossible to make a judgement based on this snapshot.

Ticktockblock · 14/10/2014 10:57

What sort of person would let their partner and Kids get wet just so they are equal? A bloody idiot that's who!

GoodboyBindleFeatherstone · 14/10/2014 10:59

No bigger picture needed. No-one should use their child/ren to make a point. Child/ren got unnecessarily drenched when Person 1 could have helped them.

Twat.

Bowlersarm · 14/10/2014 11:00

No one let anyone get drenched did they?

LadyLuck10 · 14/10/2014 11:04

Why don't you just say that you are person 2 Instead of trying to be neutral but obviously isn't.

GoodboyBindleFeatherstone · 14/10/2014 11:04

Bowlersarm

It's in the OP.
"Person 2 comes home from school drenched."
I admit I've assumed that the children were in the same weather.

ShadowStar · 14/10/2014 11:05

No one let anyone get drenched did they?

OP's first post states that person 2 was drenched when they got home. It's not spelt out, but there's certainly an implication in the post that person 2 cannot drive while person 1 can.

Presumably the DC would also have got wet on the walk home from school, although perhaps not quite as wet as person 2, as they'd only be doing the school to home route one way (whereas person 2 had to go there and back).

WorraLiberty · 14/10/2014 11:08

Just curious, but does no-one own an umbrella? Confused

redskybynight · 14/10/2014 11:10

My DC got drenched yesterday coming home from school - and they went by car. We also adopt a "if it's not raining in the morning, you go by bike" policy - which means they quite often cycle home in the rain. Strangely enough, a child getting slightly wet, when they are able to change straight into dry clothes on getting home, is not regarded as a huge issue in our house! I think some people on here sound overly precious about not letting their DC get wet.
