On holiday?

Mmmm nice weather

Cocktail time

30 degrees in the shade here

not a cloud in the sky again

A friend on my FB is updating about 7 times a day, wouldn't you be turning your phone off? And she is also posting in local groups asking what is causing heavy traffic in the area?!! Why does this matter if she is abroad?!

LadyLuck10 · 13/10/2014 12:42

Why does it bother you so much?
And if you think she/them have no life, imagine how you come across taking the time to report on their fb activity Grin

Ahh, question un answered in true MN fashion

Why does it bother you so much

Hadn't actually said it bothered me

And if you think she/them have no life again, I haven't actually said this

Id be worried about advertising the fact I wasn't home in case someone broke in .

JabberJabberJay · 13/10/2014 12:47

Because they want everyone to know they are on holiday and having a nice time.

Hide if it bothers you.

Sapat · 13/10/2014 12:48

Maybe she is bored or lonely or something had happened that she can't enjoy herself and is turning to her phone for comfort and companionship? Her hotel wifi is awesome?
I go through phases, sometimes don't post for weeks, sometime 3 times the same day.

DoJo · 13/10/2014 13:45

For me, it's because even when I am on holiday I need to be checking in with work, so have phone and laptop on hand. Also, because a lot of people want to share their fun with friends and family back home, and because, even on holiday, you aren't usually busy 24/7 and have the odd five minutes to update FB.

It might not be what you would do on holiday, but that is all part of life's rich tapestry.

CleanLinesSharpEdges · 13/10/2014 13:48

Because that's the whole point of Facebook. To use it how you like, when you like and if people don't like what you post then they're free to hide/delete/block you.

MrsHathaway · 13/10/2014 13:49

Because she's having a lovely time and it takes thirty seconds each post.

MrsMarcJacobs · 13/10/2014 13:53

To make you (and everyone else) jealous? isn't that the whole point of facebook?

PillForgettingIdiot · 13/10/2014 13:56

Because she thinks people that don't care about her do.

Apart from you OP, of course. You don't care. Wink

WooWooOwl · 13/10/2014 13:58

I've got friends that do this when they are on group activity holidays. That I don't understand, just get on and enjoy what you're doing and the company you chose to go on holiday with instead of being on your phone half the time!

But when people have gone on a relaxing couple or family holiday where there's a lot of sunbathing involved. I can see how they would end up with plenty of time to post on Facebook. That's why some holidays are boring.

ShadowStar · 13/10/2014 14:00

Maybe she thinks her friends will be interested?

DuelingFanjo · 13/10/2014 14:48

wouldn't you be turning your phone off?

I would probably not be risking extra charges by having the internet on unless I was somewhere they have free internet like, erm, most of the hotels and family homes I have ever stayed at.

Why does this matter if she is abroad?!

Erm, so she can maybe find out if she should be driving, walking in that area? Surely a local group is by far the best place to ask?

vichill · 13/10/2014 14:50

Its not really the wine o'clock, look what's for dinner, look I'm having a pre flight g&t posts that annoy me. They're just a bit sad. What does is the need to comment on news events, like they're a statesman and we are all dying to hear their thoughts on ebola or how they feel about a certain murder. I find that so narcissistic. It's always people who don't have a coherent stance and as soon as someone comments but what about x or y they backtrack and say yeah spose you're right hun.

Don't people generally have more free time when they're on holiday?

TheRealAmandaClarke · 14/10/2014 02:57

That is sort of the point of fb though.

I think Sean Locke (sp) said that social media sites are for people who "can't shut the fuck up. Even when they're on their own" Grin

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 14/10/2014 04:28

Personally I think FB has done a lot in improving other peoples holiday shite. No longer do I have to sit and endure three millionty photos of someones holiday destination.

I can simply "like" the inevetable photo album that is posted to FB and feign ignorance.

Bunbaker · 14/10/2014 06:38

I love that TheReal Grin

I have posted on my FB page precisely three times because I don't think people are that interested in me or my life.

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/10/2014 06:46

Because updating facebook is very much part of normal life now for a great many people and it takes approximately 30 seconds to update.

Bunbaker · 14/10/2014 06:47

I did my growing up before Facebook and it just would never occur to me to update Facebook all the time. I really only have Facebook to stalk keep an eye on my teenage daughter.

Contraryish · 14/10/2014 06:55

Facebook is the modern-day equivalent of sending a postcard. Remember how much time we had to spend as children going out to buy postcards, writing them, buying stamps and sending them off. Updating Facebook or adding a couple of pictures takes a fraction of the time and is much more effective in terms of the audience it reaches.

Bunbaker · 14/10/2014 07:04

The thing is that the people I would have sent a postcard do don't have Facebook.

WitchWay · 14/10/2014 07:05

The very fact it's called a "status" annoys me - surely your status would be whether you were married or employed or something else important & interesting...

My SIL does the trivial nice cup of tea / so tired updates a lot Hmm
