Excuse me whilst I vent spleen on the above 2, ds1 just put on BBC 3 in the middle of Downton! There was a comedy programme by the above called "Come Fly with Me" featuring the above pair. I hated it and dressed as Japanese school girls (with bad style (Mikado eye make-up circa 1897) and the fake accents. This is really bad comedy how do this pair get away with this in 2014 for chrissake. I do remember Little Britain but did not really watch it as used to do v.early shift work and so bed early, this offering seems beyond the pail. Walliams seems such a totally "right on " much loved "luvvie" , I just don't understand Confused

I take it that FlipFlop has flipped off to "Songs of Praise" another thread then Tardis

I think it's like The Royle family if you look at it from the POV that it holds a mirror up to society in all of its glorious stupidity. We recognise ourselves in the family that slobs out scratching our arses and belching behind closed doors. I totally recognise David in a gay friend of mine who is also a raging homophobic. Go figure.

It includes a lot of different parts of British society, it takes the piss out of all of them. But mainly out of parochial idiots. Which is a trait that can be found in any race, sexuality, gender. To only ever show certain races in a totally positive light would be ridiculous and racist in itself by separating them as somehow different when they're not.

FlipFlopFlorence · 13/10/2014 20:33

Nope!

My point is that if you are going to complain about something you find offensive then it's better not to use terms which themselves cause offence to some.

I'm an atheist btw. And I agree that Walliams and Lucas are awful.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 13/10/2014 20:41

I totally disagree that Little Britain is anything like the Royle family. The Royle family is an incredibly well observed, affectionate tribute to working class families. Little Britain is a collection of crude stereotypes.

bottleofbeer · 13/10/2014 20:47

Yeah true. I think I'll write to points of view and complain that as a working class family, I am most aggrieved at the mere suggestion I would clean dog poo off my shoes with a butter knife over the kitchen sink. Or that my kitchen hasn't seen a bottle of bleach since 1992. They all exaggerated, it's what makes them amusing.

Charliebitmyfinger · 13/10/2014 20:51

I am a Christian so if I choose to offend myself and others of that ilk that is fine by me I am NOT a white male blacking up to represent a black middle aged woman. Perhaps you found Dave Allen offensive? And FlipFlop I think you will see "fer chrissake" a lot here on Mnet do you want to swoop in on those, i see CUNT al lot and think it is bloody CUNTASTIC , I do not however (Thank my God) see much support for white people condoning "Blackface" Here have one of these Biscuit

Yes to whatTinkly said

bottleofbeer · 13/10/2014 21:02

I've not seen anybody defending blackface. It's entirely different to black people being represented in a comedy series about Britain. It'd be such an obvious omission in a skit about what is after all, a multicultural country. Are there any black posters who feel genuinely offended by Desiree as a character? Or white, non English people offended by Bubbles?

Charliebitmyfinger · 13/10/2014 21:10

I would be interested to hear from any black posters on this too bottle.....

OP posts:
bottleofbeer · 13/10/2014 21:17

On the other hand would it be more offensive if they weren't represented? All the characters are bloody idiots, should anyone other than Mr and Mrs White Middle England be left out of it? Why can we laugh at their expense?

ScarlettlovesRhett · 13/10/2014 21:24

Youu showed your Japanese friend a screenshot to get a reaction, and you're going to canvass your Asian friends too? You say it's ok as far as you're concerned that you wilfully use language and phrases that may offend some as you are a 'lapsed Catholic' so are somehow allowed to? You are keen to 'hear from black posters'.

You keep mentioning the other thread re blacking up - you obviously 'get it', so what do you hope to achieve on this thread?
A load of posters being drawn in with your faux Shock at a years old show, and scrapping with each other? Is that what you're hoping for?

That's what happened on the other thread you keep mentioning.

Charliebitmyfinger · 13/10/2014 22:43

Well Scarlett perhaps you did not read my OP I saw CFWM for the first time yesterday. I started this thread today and as we were discussing it I showed my friend from Japan the pic and asked if she knew the show OK Because it is years old it does not mean we cannot have a valid discussion about it. I pulled FlipFlop up about the Chrissake remark because she pulled me up about it. It is a turn of phrase common in my family I see it sll over Mnet and it had nothing to do with the Original AIBU ok. And I am a lapsed Catholic but still a Christian an I feel it ok to use that term. Why do you feel my idignstion is "faux" I saw the show yesterday for the FIRST time many on here are aoffended by their other characters- Anne for example. Is their outrage also "faux"? Hmm

Indignation - offended (typos)

OP posts:
ScarlettlovesRhett · 13/10/2014 23:33

Yes I read your op, I just find you somewhat disingenuous tbh.

Charliebitmyfinger · 13/10/2014 23:50

And how do you make that out? Ihave enrolled on twitter for the first time today and asked L and W themselves to discuss it, (they wont). Why do you find it so hard to believe I had not seen the programme before yesterday? I just do not understand you. I just don't get why you think I am "disingenuous" I really don't- I have filled in a lot of my background on these posts. Are you on some kind of troll hunt?

OP posts:
Charliebitmyfinger · 13/10/2014 23:59

Do you patrol Mnet to find OP's you perceive to be "disingenuous" and call posters out on it? Sure a lot of AIBUs can become scrappy but are we not allowed to debate. I do not agree with Bottleofbeer's viewpoint but have not had a full scale barney, it has been fairly civilised. I probably over reacted to FlipFlops comments because I felt she was nitpicking over one word. I can see I over reacted reading it back and FlipFlops I am sorry. I just don't get why you think I am not being genuine....
