so its a little chilly but DT are hardly here and normally dh and I are out during the day

I'm sat at home by myself working with a thick jumper on, blanket and cat on my lap for warmth

anyone else not turned the heating on yet?

We are just working out the new house, is it warm or cold.

Then I realised that is pointless as the scaffolding for the roofers is tied in through a window. No wonder there are drafts!!

gamerchick · 12/10/2014 15:03

I haven't.. The odd hour here and there or it gets a bit dank.

I turn it off all the way through winter when I'm alone in the house and pop it on at 3 in time for the kids getting in from school.

I'm In a teeshirt today it's quite mild.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 12/10/2014 15:09

If you are comfortable then fair enough. I on the other hand really feel the cold. I need the fire on quite a lot, though it isn't on as yet today.
I think it has a lot to do with my poor health though, as I never used to feel the cold.
We don't have central heating, so we have the fire on and only heat the rooms we are using with individual heaters.

Trills · 12/10/2014 15:10

Why would it be unreasonable to not put the heating on? Especially as you are home alone and so the only person who might be cold is you.

superbagpuss · 12/10/2014 15:11

should I have the house warm for when DC and dh come home?

OP posts:
mrscog · 12/10/2014 15:17

We haven't got it 'on' as in a fixed programme yet. I've switched it on for an hour each morning as DH hates it being cold first thing, and then for an hour around 7pm which seems to keep it warm enough all day.

ilovechristmas1 · 12/10/2014 15:33

simple, you put it on if you or others feel cold, only a no no if everybody is walking about in summer clothes complaining of being cold

RJnomore · 12/10/2014 15:35

I'm in Scotland and I haven't had the heating on at all so far this year.

Trying to keep it that way too...

ChippingInLatteLover · 12/10/2014 15:38

I'm down south, haven't had it on yet, I don't think it's cold. I'm in running shorts & t-shirt, I put some socks on earlier as my toes were a bit cold.

Just for clarity - I haven't actually been running, they're just comfy Grin

ChippingInLatteLover · 12/10/2014 15:38

No you don't need it on for when they come in, it'll be fine.

samsam123 · 12/10/2014 15:40

no way its no where near cold enough I mean wheres the snow

QueenBean · 12/10/2014 15:41

"I'm in Scotland and haven't had it on at all this year"

What, even in January??!Wink

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 12/10/2014 15:42

I'm going to try and do a winter without heating. I used to live in a very cold cottage, and have now moved to a new build so am convinced it will be toastie warm without the heating on

PiperIsOrange · 12/10/2014 15:43

I have put it on, I never change my Derict debit for the gas. I builds up over the summer a lot.

I hate being cold, that is coming from growing up and I remember ice on the inside windows.

Nope, the temps are still in double digits, it's not nearly cold enough.

But then I like a cold house and I much prefer jumpers, extra socks etc to heating. I put it on for a few hours here and there in winter just to take the edge off and allow washing to dry.

SaucyJack · 12/10/2014 15:47

I'm in a t-shirt with the window open, so nope.

AnnoyingOrange · 12/10/2014 15:50

Mine is on and had been since the weather changed

EatDessertFirst · 12/10/2014 15:53

YANBU. An hour in the morning and an hour before bed is the limit here till it gets unbearably cold. I'm terribly stingy with the gas! Drives DP nuts! The kids don't seem bothered though.

Greengrow · 12/10/2014 15:55

One of the nicest things about being divorced is having the heating on as much as I like. As I pay for everything it's my decision too. Always warm as toast here which proves again why women should choose high paid careers and then they won't be cold. All comes back to feminism.

CheeseEqualsHappiness · 12/10/2014 15:56

No heating on here yet. Mid terrace in south east so not needed it yet.

Goldmandra · 12/10/2014 16:02

We had had the log burner lit in the evenings for the last couple of days and the heating on for 30mins pre-getting up in the morning.

When it gets colder we'll keep the log burner going 24/7 and add an hour of heating before bedtime too but it is never on all day.

My DCs are accustomed to minimal heating, wearing jumpers, etc but we have an exchange student coming from Australia at the beginning of December. She'll be sleeping in the flat roofed, not very well insulated playroom and I'm worried that she'll be cold. I can decide whether it would be more cost effective to buy a small electric radiator and leave it running in there while she's here or leave the heating on 24/7 and shut off all the radiators apart from the one in that room.

She will be sleeping on a sofa bed with a lovely thick down duvet too.

Snatchoo · 12/10/2014 16:13

YANBU but who the hell cares?! (I mean that nicely Grin)

If you don't need it, then you don't need it. I'm hardly ever cold so I moan in my house when the heating goes on. My sister is always cold and moans when it's off (in her house I mean).

I'd go for more layers rather than heating anytime. I do put it on when I start to see my breath indoors though Grin

No heating here as we can't afford it but we are very very lucky in that we have a log burner and dp is a carpenter. ....
