To want a sleeve tattoo done on my arm?

Ive been looking at getting another tattoo done for a while now but have been unsure on what to get done and where. Whilst looking online for inspiration I've seen some amazing sleeve tattoos and have decided that I want one of them, the designs and artistry are amazing. I think that if they are done properly by decent tattoo artists then they are like works of art.

The thing is that everyone I've told about it has looked at me like I'm going mad. My mum was absolutely horrified, said that they are "revolting" and that I'll look like a sailor. But I don't think I will, I saw a photo on Facebook of a friend of a friend and she had a floral sleeve on her arm and yet still managed to look feminine. Not that I'm particularly feminine and girly anyway, but the point I'm trying to make is that not all sleeve designs are for blokes who start fights in pubs which what my mum was clearly trying to get at.

Should I just bite the bullet and go for it?

stupid- hard to believe then. Only one of "25 people" in the UK, yet you either don't know about it or it's top secret,

I love how combust is appalled to the point of outright disbelief by the information that someone with tattoos also has an important job. Poor old combust. Life must be a continuing series of disappointments to you.

Not in the least findo- I am curious as to what this amazing qualification that stupid's OH has. "Nuclear type carry ons" doesn't quite cut it for me.

Nothing to do with tattoos really- simply a curious fellow scientist.

FindoGask · 14/10/2014 17:15

Interesting! What's your own specialism?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 14/10/2014 17:15

I imagine that if stupidheads partners qualifications are anything like my tattooed dad (who basically has homer simpsons job), they are way too complicated for us laypersons to understand, never mind attempt to explain to someone else :)

Faire, i did notice my slightly dopey mistype. Hands are buggered, it leads to me typing some right shite at times!! Grin

I think Stupidhead should be given the benefit of the doubt for now. I couldn't explain DP's job very well because it's very specialized and requires a lot of knowledge in the general field, as well as knowledge relating to his specialist field.
It may also be the case that she can't give any details out for security reasons, which also applies to my mum's job. Could be many reasons.

Combust - I do think you need to make your peace with the fact that tattooed people can also be highly qualified and in good jobs. :)

Churchill had a tattoo. He did a pretty good job according to a lot of people.

Here's an interesting list - m.mic.com/articles/78927/14-historical-figures-you-probably-didn-t-know-had-tattoos

If we didn't know they had tattoos, then they probably didn't have a full sleeve.
