To think two slices of toast is standard?

Fedupofplaystation · 11/10/2014 21:39

Been in bed most of the day with awful PGP. Struggling to move.

35 weeks pregnant.

Text DH to request some toast and he brought up one measly slice. He is now huffing around because I had the audacity to ask for a second slice.

Surely, when making toast, two slices is the norm unless a different number of slices is specifically requested from the outset?

YANBU, agree that he must have scoffed the other slice Grin

One savoury (peanut butter) and one sweet (strawberry jam) and you've got yourself a decent meal IMO.

Has to be butter and not 'spread' though.

Pointlessfan · 11/10/2014 21:53

Two is correct but wishing I hadn't read this thread as I now want toast...

Hmmmwhatnow · 11/10/2014 21:53

Shit now I need toast.

Love that there is a question mark over whether your reason for bedboundness is valid. Only on MN Grin

wanttosqueezeyou · 11/10/2014 21:53

My really tough friend had PGP. It was so bad she just staggered around with her zimmer frame for about 2 months.

If someone had brought her a solitary piece of toast... I don't like to imagine.

flowery · 11/10/2014 21:54

If you have two pieces at once the second won't be hot. One piece, then if you're still hungry, cook another fresh.

ShadowStar · 11/10/2014 21:57

Of course 2 slices are standard. That's why toasters have 2 bread slots.

wheresthelight · 11/10/2014 21:58

pgp = pelvic girdle pain (used to be called spd)

I had it when pregnant op so you have my deepest sympathy!! I still get a really nasty cracking noise when I cross my legs a year after giving birth!

as for the toast I will volunteer to bury him under your patio for you! not quite a ltb but definitely a sleeping on the sofa one Grin

wanttosqueezeyou · 11/10/2014 21:58

Yes so true Hmmm YANBU for wanting 2 pieces of toast but YABU for being bedbound! Pregnancy isn't a disease!

Bedbound!! YABU for being bedbound. I worked until 3 hours before giving birth.

daisychain01 · 11/10/2014 21:59

That's nutritional abuse and needs to be stomped on immediately.

One measly slice? Humph. Two slices and I'm with Agent on the peanut butter. Whole Earth, smooth.

Did he slice corner to corner? If so he is marginally redeemed, but on notice. He also needs to bring a nice napkin for your comfort and convenience.

ChippingInLatteLover · 11/10/2014 22:01

LTB

But not until you've had the baby obviously!

TortillasAndChocolate · 11/10/2014 22:01

This really made me laugh. 2 is definitely standard. YANBU. To be honest, I'm not sure what the hell he thought he was playing at.

Fedupofplaystation · 11/10/2014 22:02

PGP = pelvic girdle pain. Otherwise know as SPD.

I did manage to hobble around with crutches this morning and am in receipt of regular physio and medical attention, cheers.

Glad the majority agree Grin

DH has redeemed himself by bringing two additional slices of toast and a cuppa.

You are poorly.

It's entirely possible that you could have eaten one slice and really not fancied the second slice.

For poorly people, the correct etiquette is to deliver one and be entirely ready to delver a second slice OR a different item once then first slice has been consumed.

FunkyBoldRibena · 11/10/2014 22:04

I just had toast before you posted OP. Well, a toasted bagel. They have stopped slicing them apparently. It says so on the packet. Most unsatisfactory.

TortillasAndChocolate · 11/10/2014 22:04

Also this has made me realise I want toast but only have brown bread in the house which is fine for everything - except toast. I may have to eat crisps instead. Or biscuits.

The lack of toast has the potential to ruin my Saturday night. I didn't see this coming.

MrsCurrent · 11/10/2014 22:06

Did it come with bacon, sausage, egg, beans, mushrooms and grilled tomatoes? If not then 2 is a bare minimum. Tomorrow's breakfast should contain all of the above, a pot of tea and the Sunday papers.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 11/10/2014 22:07

Brown bread toast is disappointing. Granary toast with marmite is amazing.

Itsfab · 11/10/2014 22:14

TandC you need a loaf of emergency bread in.

I checked through my herbs and spices yesterday and found the emergency bar of fruit and nut DH had hiddenGrin.

It's still hidden but now I know it is there so only hidden from the cats now.

AgentZigzag · 11/10/2014 22:15

'DH has redeemed himself by bringing two additional slices of toast and a cuppa.'

Whether he's redeemed himself depends on what he put on them 'fraid.

Fedupofplaystation · 11/10/2014 22:20

Golden syrup. Mmmmm.

Two slices is definitely the standard adult amount. Actually, that reminds me of a letter in the Times some years ago (which I've just googled for, failed miserably, so trying to reproduce approximately from memory).

Dear Sir
I believe that the government has underestimated the impact of the firestrike, with consequent removal of toasters, upon NHS morale and efficiency. Are they not aware that it is the standard toast ration (2 slices, white, buttered, cut diagonally) which is the fuel enabling night shifts to survive and function? With the availability of the toast ration removed, I fear for the NHS.

daisychain01 · 12/10/2014 08:03

nocoolnames such a relief that Dr Important sees the therapeutic and clinical merits of diagonally cut toast. All is right with the World!

Hoppinggreen · 12/10/2014 08:08

There's a reason toasters have 2 slots!!!!
Make sure the butter ( not spread) goes all the way to the edges or LTB!

Mouthfulofquiz · 12/10/2014 08:12

2 slices.
Slice 1: salted goats butter
Slice 2: morrisons basics lemon curd about an inch thick

I think these topping choices show that I'm in for a future of gout or type 2 diabetes...

WutheringFrights · 12/10/2014 09:27

DH has just popped upstairs with my morning coffee and asked if I fancy eggy bread for breakfast (smug face).
I read him bits from this thread as the one slice/two slice issue comes up a lot here mostly because there is no consistency, sometimes he does one slice sometimes two...
Anyhoo...he just walked out the room muttering 'mumsnet is terrifying, one nagging wife is bad enough....but a whole chorus of them....terrifying, simply terrifying'
