To be annoyed with this parked car?

For the past 3/4 weeks, a man has been using our road to dump his car for days on end! I have no problem with even a car being parked daily because they are going to work, etc. But he literally dumps it, then gets into another car parked on the road and then clears off! So if it's not 1 car it's another. It moved briefly today, having not been touched since Monday! I thought perhaps it would be gone, but an hour later it's bloody back and he drove off in a 3rd car I've not seen before. I called 101, sadly the damn thing is taxed! So the only option is to advise the council that it's been dumped, or approach the guy! Sadly not brave or angry enough at the moment to do either. Why own a car that you never use, and don't have parking for!!

If a public road and not blocking driveway etc yabu

TarkaTheOtter · 10/10/2014 17:41

YABU. YWDBU to report it as dumped when you know it isn't. Unless it's a private road he's not doing anything wrong.

WorraLiberty · 10/10/2014 17:41

It hasn't been 'dumped', it's been parked....and legally too.

Did you seriously call 101 without checking the tax disc yourself first?

LuisSuarezTeeth · 10/10/2014 17:42

Why is it a problem to you?

WeAllHaveWings · 10/10/2014 17:42

But if he's picking it up every few days its not dumped, its parked, presumably on a public road?

Humansatnav · 10/10/2014 17:43

As Luis said, what problems is it causing you ?

How is it dumped, it's a public road and he's parked there legally? I once parked my car for about 3 months on a road 10 min walk from my house because it was the closest parking space. I probably drove it about 4 times during that time. No one's business but mine why.

Birnamwood · 10/10/2014 17:44

There was a programme recently about airport parking shysters. Basically, you pay a fortune for your car to be parked somewhere secure with CCTV etc but in actual fact they were parking the car on residential streets. They didn't have a massive secure car park.

So...are you near an airport?

If not, ignore me :)

magpiegin · 10/10/2014 17:44

Why do you care about whether he parks his car on the road? It's a public road so it's none of your business.

Derleth · 10/10/2014 17:44

I don't see the problem unless it's causing an obstruction and 'parked on my road when he doesn't live here' doesn't qualify as an obstruction.

Nattynar · 10/10/2014 17:45

You don't have to display tax discs as of 1st October, the car doesn't have a tax disc! So how would I be able to find out otherwise?

OP posts:
lottiegarbanzo · 10/10/2014 17:45

People are allowed to park on public roads for days, even weeks. What makes you think otherwise?

Humansatnav · 10/10/2014 17:48

But why is it bothering you so much?

magpiegin · 10/10/2014 17:50

Makes me laugh that people care about this shit. I have no idea whose cars are whose on my road. Why should I? I drive to people's houses at work and love a good curtain twitcher and notes telling you off for daring to park on a public road!

Nattynar · 10/10/2014 17:53

There are plenty of people from another road, who park their cars down here. So they park up and walk off. He gets into another car and drives off. I have made the assumption that he lives some distance away, could be wrong. I know it's a public road, but it makes getting my car out difficult!
Just because it's legal doesn't mean you can't be considerate!

Purplepixiedust · 10/10/2014 17:55

It isn't dumped, just parked! YWBVU to report it as dumped or approach him unless he is blocking your drive.

Maybe he lives around the corner where there is no/limited parking. I used to rent a house with a friend with yellow lines outside. No parking 7-7. So if around during the day we had to park on nearby streets (as did any visitors).

Anyway it is a public highway so none of your business, sorry.

Humansatnav · 10/10/2014 17:57

And if your op would have said that he was making it difficult for you to get your car out you may have gotten a different response.

SistersOfPercy · 10/10/2014 18:02

You wasted the valuable time of the 101 operators because someone was legally parked?

Have a read of this OP, this couples schitzophrenic son desperately needed help and they were waiting for 20 minutes on 101, presumably because of timewasters like you.

SistersOfPercy · 10/10/2014 18:03

Apologies for awful spelling of schizophrenic there. Blush

Woobeedoo · 10/10/2014 18:07

Go to Google. Type Is this car taxed. The first page that comes up is a gov.UK site where you put in the registration and make and it tells you yes / no or SORN. It even tells you when the MOT expires.

Nattynar · 10/10/2014 18:07

MrsCumbersnatch - I'm thinking that perhaps he's some kind of car dealer. Why would you own 3 different cars, and they are all cheap 2nd hand cars. Spends a lot of time wandering around them checking out the paintwork I suppose. Hopefully he sells it soon, if it is the case!

I won't report or approach him. I just wondered what the rest of you thought about it. DP is getting angry too. Noticed lots of neighbours are now putting their cars on road. Seems I'm not the only one who is BU.

Nattynar · 10/10/2014 18:12

Thanks Woobeedoo. I won't waste 101's time again. Having said that obvious a quiet day and it took 2 mins. Operator didn't seem to mind.

OP posts:
RandomMess · 10/10/2014 18:15

Sounds like a car dealer of some sort to me!

We had a residents car park that a neighbour filled with his car dealership cars so we ended with not enough spaces when usually there were loads spare. To add insult to injury he parked them badly & inconsiderately!!!

Nattynar · 10/10/2014 18:22

Perhaps I'm more touchy because at our last property we had allocated parking and a newish couple decided that they were their parking spaces despite numerous attempts to convince them that in fact they were our parking spaces and were on our deeds. I thought a drive might solve car related issues Smile
