To be really cross that GBBO Nancy is described everywhere as.. [title edited by MNHQ - spoiler alert!]

In the DM, every single article seems to be defining Great British Bake Off Winner Nancy, by her age.

Do people really think that your cooking ability declines with age? And 60 really? Why is it amazing that someone of 60 can cook better than people younger than her?

Cooking (or baking) is not age, sex, profession, class or anything else related. Skill is dependent on talent, practice, determination and a love of food!

it's the Daily Mail ...what did you expect - they hate women and treat them like shit as a rule

ArabellaTarantella · 09/10/2014 17:44

S'OK DownBy - I'll stop feeling victimised now Grin

MustHaveMoreTea · 09/10/2014 17:48

Actually MNHQ the words "Nancy" and "Spoiler Alert" still sort of give it away. Hmm
Maybe "To be really cross that GBBO commentary is so ageist [SPOILER ALERT]"?

MyFairyKing · 09/10/2014 20:15

Oh FFS, why are people whinging, it's on every media source. If I really want to avoid spoilers, I don't go on social media (the clue is in the name 'media') at all.

ilovechristmas1 · 09/10/2014 20:18

i couldnt see it on timellast night so was gonna watch it on catch up,then my son turned over to BBC2 and an ex slice started by announcing Nancy as the winner,in a split second i found out Nancy had won

i laughed it of and watched later

no need to stamp your feet over it,it's everywhere and 24hrs after the event so not unreasonable

OwlCapone · 09/10/2014 20:23

If you art going to watch a competition final "live" then perhaps you should not log into any kind of social media site until you have watched it.

Nancy66 · 09/10/2014 20:25

people's ages are nearly always included in news reports.

coffeeinbed · 09/10/2014 20:28

I can't believe people cry spoiler.
It's bloody everywhere.

Millions of people watched last night. It's not an obscure crochet competition.

wooooosualsuspect · 09/10/2014 20:33

When are we allowed to discuss the winner then ? next week? in a month?

It's not 'spoiler' if it's already happened.

zeezeek · 09/10/2014 20:33

It's not just the fact that the media are obsessed with her age - but also the fact that the DM headline at least (saw it whilst in the supermarket) made a point of saying she's a "gran". Ok, she may be a gran - but she's also a professional woman with an MBA (or so I've heard!) and yet she is defined by the fact that her children have reproduced.

They wouldn't do it to a man.

That is the real scandal imo

NotMNRoyalty · 09/10/2014 20:34

C'mon with the spoiler alert. It's a little silly to come on MN if you didn't want to risk accidentally finding out who won. Confused

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 09/10/2014 20:36

Newspapers are always obsessed with telling us everyone's age. It's not unique to Nancy.

and I completely disagree that they wouldn't do it to a man

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 09/10/2014 20:38

Oh sorry, I see you meant the number of children she'd had. I thought you were just talking about her age.

Yes, agree that if she were a man the media would not be so interested in her children and grandchildren.

DrCoconut · 09/10/2014 21:26

She is from round here and the local paper website is full of it about her. Fair enough since she won. I don't watch it (but want her kitchen from one of the pics).

ethelb · 09/10/2014 21:43

Nancy not if they are men. Unless they are appearing in court.

Nancy66 · 09/10/2014 22:47

yes men too. newspaper reports need to include ages - it's what journalist are trained to do.

littlejohnnydory · 10/10/2014 09:44

Great. I'd managed to get to ten minutes before watching the final 24 hours later on iPlayer (don't have a TV) and even with the MNHQ edited title it was obvious from the title who the winner was. Fantastic.

OwlCapone · 10/10/2014 09:46

Anyone not wanting to know should have avoided all social media before watching.

littlejohnnydory · 10/10/2014 09:50

And nobody's saying people can't talk about it, just that putting the name in the title was selfish.

Maybe it is sad to be so bothered but it's the night of the week when dh and I relax together.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 10/10/2014 09:51

I think anybody who feels the need a) to be a bitch on an internet forum b) feel traumatised and "robbed" by finding out who won some reality show on television before they had chance to watch it, should perhaps get a life.

If it's that important to you, seriously, you need help.

littlejohnnydory · 10/10/2014 09:52

Did avoid newspapers, Facebook, etc. Wouldn't have opened a thread about it. Too late now anyway, you ruined it for us!

moxon · 10/10/2014 09:53

Ooh obscure crotchet competition!!!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 10/10/2014 09:55

So the whole interweb has to not talk about a baking programme because someone's husband didn't want to watch it?????

Get. A. Grip.

(I haven't watched it yet either, but being a normal functioning human I appreciate that it's no-one else's fault but my OWN that I couldn't be arsed to watch it when it was on.)

littlejohnnydory · 10/10/2014 09:55

Bit ironic, what you said about people who feel the need to be a bitch on an internet forum, Sangria!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 10/10/2014 09:59

Thought you might all understand me better if I spoke your language. Given the pasting the OP is getting.
