should I wind down my business to be able to clean the house properly?

Had a massive argument with DH about my little fledgeling business. He says the family is suffering because I spend too much time chasing too little money (well, I've only been going a year or so, plus I'm not in a terribly lucrative field). What he really means is I'm not spending enough time cleaning the house. We don't live in squalor - far from it - but if I get several jobs all at once then I won't have time to hoover or cook elaborate meals. He does his fair share of housework and cooking at the weekend, although he works 60-70 hours a week and is too tired and stressed for conversation most evenings. But then, he does get compensated very well for it. I don't, I probably never will do, but I absolutely love what I do. He's the materialistic one, I'm not one bit. The argument started over us hiring a cleaner. In principle I'm in favour, but it comes down to who pays for it. He wants me to pay for a cleaner, but I feel at least one of us ought to be saving something for a rainy day for the family - it's not like we can't live on his income, just like we have been doing before I started my venture. I'm worried because despite his decent salary he's not saving anything. Who's in the wrong here?

Oh goodness, more lovely replies Grin thank you, everyone! Thanks

We've now patched up a little bit, he apologised for being mean and backtracked on quite a lot of what he said in the heat of the moment Shock Wink

I'll still go on a one-week cleaning strike just to make the point that I actually manage to do a fair amount of tidying around the house Grin Angry - but I have forgiven him pretty much completely by now. He gets a bit hotheaded with stress at times (as do I!), but deep down he is very much a decent bloke, with his heart in the right place. A keeper, for sure Smile

I'm asking around for recommended cleaners and we've agreed to take the money out of savings elsewhere. I'll set a slightly tighter food budget, and he'll use day gyms instead of a seldom-used monthly membership (I never asked him to do this, but in the heat of the moment I said "if it was me earning the salary you do, I would budget it a bit more carefully!" - which seems to have sunk in Grin) I have promised to sub the cleaner cost out of the savings pot if required.

So, ladies, what is more practical: a weekly or fortnightly cleaner? Perhaps I should start a new thread.....

I have a fortnightly cleaner for 4 hours, but I do miss her on the week she doesn't go in, as I have to end up cleaning (at least the floor) myself. (I have only had her for 6 months or so, following a long bad cold)

Maybe 2 hours per week would be enough to maintain a decently clean house.
