To be too scared to watch 'The Walking Dead'?

OneSkinnyChip · 09/10/2014 15:47

Twice I've tried to watch it. Both times I was freaked out by three minutes in. He's just tried to get petrol and he's heard a noise behind him. I had to turn it off Blush

So if you love it, just how jumpy and gory is it? People seem to love it and it's my kind of programme, only I'm a big chicken. It's so eerie!

Love TWD, you must watch it. with a pillow

missnevermind · 09/10/2014 19:26

GrinI only watch it on my phone or the laptop. The telly is too big for all that gore

CheerfulYank · 09/10/2014 19:30

The only scary thing about TWD is the crazed fans who want Daryl to hook up with Beth. No no no. I am grumpy and pregnant and hormonal and if that happens I am going to hurt someone In Charge. Angry

But anyway it's quite good! I'm a huge baby, never watch horror films or anything like that and I love it.

Avonmore · 09/10/2014 19:44

Just started watching this from the first.
Have watched full first series and am half way through second within a week ! Totally addictive!

The walkers become less freaky after a few episodes but still spend a lot of the time on the edge of my seat shouting st the tv!

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 09/10/2014 20:27

I love TWD. But it can be one hell of a hard watch. This season (4) was so dark I nearly gave up but as I got to the middle I became addicted again.

I like that they aren't afraid to beat up, mutilate or kill main characters. Zombies scare the shit out of me and I wouldn't eat while watching, I was scared on my own once after watching so I watched behind the scenes to unfreak me :)

I love apocalypse stuff though, when it's so focused on characters.

Metheven · 09/10/2014 20:33

The Walking Dead is one of the best shows on TV. New series starts on Monday Grin

I often daydream about where I would go if it happened. I am in Cornwall, so I think Dartmoor would be good, quite isolated. If I was further up country, maybe the Isle of Man. In the States, I would head for Pennsylvania, where the Amish live. They don't use electricity, so it would be great for an end of world scenario. I did think Yellowstone, but it snows an awful lot there and I don't like the cold very much.

I have far too much time on my hands Blush

But seriously, do watch it, it is fantastic. Two words, Well Zombie.

It's the tension of it I can't bear. That feeling of 'It's behiiiiiiind you!'

Have a bit of work to do and then I'm going to brave my way through episode one. I've already survived the zombie child with the rabbit getting shot. How hard can it be?

BTW whoever said upthread about fast-moving zombies. OMG, no. No, no, no!

There are definitely a few heart stopping moments, but as you say OP, its the tension of it. If you persevere, I think you will love it.

For really scary zombies, watch 28 Days Later, now that really will make you wibble!

To be honest, the zombies aren't the scariest part of this, the other people are.

Fight the dead. Fear the Living.

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 09/10/2014 21:32

Metheven Here's another two: bicycle girl....loved those minisodes!

Metheven · 09/10/2014 21:36

Oh, bicycle girl was fantastic. Haven't seen the minisodes yet, must get round to it. It was just so sad, I thought for a zombie, she had a lot of expression on what was left of her face.

Rick and Joe in series 4. Fantastic.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/10/2014 21:44

DH and DS (nearly 15) have been Zombie Bingeing from the beginning, now onto Series 4 Episode 6.

I bloody hate it. (OK, apart from The Gov'ner)

It apparently has a storyline according to DS (though I'm sure I can't find one)

Next series on the 13th according to DH. Oh Deep Joy Hmm

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 09/10/2014 21:47

Metheven You have to watch the minisodes. There#s 4 of them I think? Or six. First one explains bicycle girl :(

You need proxflow google chrome add on if they say 'not played in your country- it unblocks.

Metheven · 09/10/2014 21:55

Thanks very much, wantstolickwilliamgraham I will watch them.

I watched the bit where they turned the actress into bicycle girl, it was really brilliant.

Will you be watching the new series on Monday?

OneSkinnyChip · 10/10/2014 16:08

Can I just say damn you all for encouraging me? I have a new addiction :o

Torn between episode 3 and cleaning the kitchen Blush

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 10/10/2014 17:04

Metheven I will be, can't wait! Will you?

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 10/10/2014 17:05

OneSkinnyChip Lmao! I hope you have them all to hand since 4 is a cliffhanger!

firsttimerose · 10/10/2014 17:20

The only part I found gory was when a normal human (i.e. not a zombie) tore the throat out of another normal human with his teeth.

Apart from that I wouldn't say it was gory or even remotely scary.

If you couldn't even watch 3 minutes of it then it's probably not for you.

firsttimerose · 10/10/2014 17:21

Any Walking Dead fans should really watch this trailer - it's hilarious.

Does contain spoilers though.

ThatBloodyWoman · 10/10/2014 17:24

It makes my heart sing.
The more gore and horror and Darryl the better.

gordyslovesheep · 10/10/2014 17:25

also ...

ThatBloodyWoman · 10/10/2014 17:27

It kills me though that I've not got Sky and I just can't do all this watching on t'internet stuff -so I've only just finished season 4 on 5*.

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 10/10/2014 17:57

firsttimerose I love that honest overview! Need to go and find if they have one for Hannibal.

SistersOfPercy · 10/10/2014 17:59

I've never found it scary.

I'm hoping this season is a huge improvement on the last because I thought the last half a dozen episodes were bloody dire.

Metheven · 10/10/2014 19:14

wantstolickwilliamgraham My son and I are counting down the days till its on.

Series 2 dragged a bit for me, but series 4 has made up for it. There was only one bit of series 4 that had me yelling at the tv, but I can't mention it, because of spoilers!
