To be too scared to watch 'The Walking Dead'?

Twice I've tried to watch it. Both times I was freaked out by three minutes in. He's just tried to get petrol and he's heard a noise behind him. I had to turn it off Blush

So if you love it, just how jumpy and gory is it? People seem to love it and it's my kind of programme, only I'm a big chicken. It's so eerie!

I absolutely love most of the characters, especially Daryl (you can't beat a bit of rough) you just have to get to know them a bit.

If you are watching from the beginning I think series 1 is the gorryiest. I find its more of a drama than a horror program now but I still love it. I am counting down the days till the next series.

I'm supposed to be getting the dinner sorted but I keep getting dragged back to the frozen image of Andrew Mitchell looking under the car at the zombie slippers Confused Must... press... play...

Well, he shot the kid zombie. That wasn't so bad.

Daryl is more than likable! We're half way through season 4. No spoilers but it's a lot less soapy.

Midori1999 · 09/10/2014 17:32

I was worried it would be scary when I watched it, but as the zombies are slow, I find it ok. If it had been fast zombies, I may have had to rethink...

I love the characters and how they develop through the series. The Rick in season 1 is very different to the Rick at the end of season 4. I also love Michonne and most of the characters, although some are better the others.

I have a big schoolgirl crush on Norman Reedus that gets me through the jumpy bits Grin. In all honesty though, it took me a few attempts to get around to watching it without phone/pillow to protect me, but I really enjoy it now and can't wait for Monday.

Purpleflamingos · 09/10/2014 17:42

I'm the same .
The dc fell asleep in my bed the other night. I was idly flicking through the channels thinking I should put them in their own beds and settle myself down when the ad for 'before the conjuring there was Annabelle'. The dc stayed in my bed all night! DH was away or I would have had someone checking their rooms and help putting them to bed.
I love supernatural but cannot watch it now DH works away.

pointythings · 09/10/2014 17:43

DH and I watched the first two series and then it failed the MN test - i.e. MN was waaaaaay more interesting than the show. We are not watching it any more, it's Zombie Snails on Valium.

TinyTearsFirstLove · 09/10/2014 17:46

I love it but also sensibly thinking what we'll do when it happens over here. Stock pile, but a sword/gun/crossbow and batten down the hatches! Wink

TinyTearsFirstLove · 09/10/2014 17:46

Buy, not but!!

mrscumberbatch · 09/10/2014 17:48

I've seen/read all of it.
I love it, but DP can tell when im watching it as he'll hear me running around the living room. (I can't stay seated- fight or flight!!!)

Story wise it is fab and well thought out. A few very sad/grim events that stuck with me though.

Hurr1cane · 09/10/2014 17:49

I don't think it's scary and I can't watch anything scary at all

TinyTearsFirstLove · 09/10/2014 17:49

Daryl is a hottie, he can protect me any time!

AmItheonlyonezenaroundhere · 09/10/2014 17:58

Came across an while in Lidl a few weeks ago and pointed out to DP how useful it could be when the zombies came. Also found myself appreciating how great my work building would be as a stronghold.

CountessRosinaAlmaviva · 09/10/2014 17:58

YANBU OP. When it first started I recorded the entire series, but I couldn't even get through the first episode, and I had dreadful nightmares. I am a total wuss though, I didn't even like watching The X Files if I was alone in the house.

They have been running a lot of trailers for the new series and one evening I saw the trailer five or six times, and that night I had a horrible zombie nightmare.

I don't find reading about zombies as scary. I really enjoyed Mark Tufo's zombie books for instance (although there were also a few nightmares from them).

AmItheonlyonezenaroundhere · 09/10/2014 17:59

An axe! Came across an axe.

ILikeToClean · 09/10/2014 18:09

DH made me watch this (not normally my thing at all) and I must admit I do scream and clutch him sometimes, but more so during Season 1 when I think it had the shock factor. Now I am desensitised to the walkers and giggle at them rather than be scared, so stick with it OP. Once you get used to the walkers they are strangely sad and endearing! I can't watch it late though, we normally Sky+ and watch early-ish and then I have to watch something funny or light afterwards!

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 09/10/2014 18:10

Has anyone seen ZNation? That's zombies too but I'm not very impressed with it.

Sparklypants · 09/10/2014 18:35

The Walking Dead is awesome! WATCH IT NOW!!!

Also not remotely scary but occasionally jumpy.

Purplepoodle · 09/10/2014 18:38

Watch with sound off. Its makes It much less scary

OneSkinnyChip · 09/10/2014 18:41

Well I made it to the bit at the start where it must be a flashback and Andrew is chatting in the car with his police pal. The only scary thing here is the godawful accent and how his voice keeps going oddly squeaky.

gamerchick · 09/10/2014 18:53

iklboo · 09/10/2014 19:01

Walking Dead AND American Horror Story soon. Eeeeeeeeep!!!!

AryaOfHouseSnark · 09/10/2014 19:05

Yanbu, I scrape myself off the ceiling after watching it, and then I have to watch some nice fluffy comedy before going to bedGrin.
I do think you should watch it though, go on op you can do it.
