Or are we mingas !
My mum. Showers at least once a day sometimes more . We were encouraged to do the same .i spend my childhood with awful eczema and blathering creams on to moisturise my poor skin .
My mum as shocked when she found out how much we wash .
My daughter has thick curly hair it was always matted iv cut down to washing it twice a week - it's now gorgeous . She will have 3 baths a week twice her hair will be washed . Most of the days she doesn't bath she will have a wipe down with wipes or a sink wash - no eczema
I shower most days but a lot of the time don't use soap or shower gel .I wash my hair every other as it's fine - mother is appalled are we really that abnormal ?!

i have a quick shower once a day as does my teen DD (but she does walk a lot so sweats a lot) she has curly hair its massively greasy if its not washed the boys however bath once or twice a week they have dreadful skin if i bath them more often and i will be woken up by the cries of MY SKIN IS FALLING OFF at 2/3am so its in my best interests not to wash them as often Grin

you do what suits you unless others say you smell your obviously doing fine

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/10/2014 10:58

I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week - it's long, dyed, and the hairdresser is always raving about how good the condition is. If I washed it ever day it would be wrecked.

ImNoClownIWontBackDown · 09/10/2014 11:00

Kids (7, 5 & 2) = twice a week. Me = every other day, unless I'm working out. Every day is weird unless you need to be super well groomed for work!

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 09/10/2014 11:01

As long as none of you smell, you wash hands often and brush teeth twice a day, then of course not.

Eczema has been linked with over washing. My dcs and I all have a pattern similar to yours.

Dh showers daily because he does get sweaty and prefers it. I don't. Neither of us smells. So it works. I will never understand people who are appalled when they hear of a routine; if they couldn't tell by smelling you or seeing the filth, then there is no issue.

Next time you see her tell her you're all now taking daily showers and ask her to sniff you. If she says you all smell lovely, then it's clearly all in her head.

:)

Ds1 (5) and Ds2 (18 mths) get dunked in the bath once a week, unless they get very sweaty or dirty. Ds1 had eczma as a baby and Ds2 has very dry skin so I try to avoid over washing them.

I wash my long, thick hair about three times a fortnight. It's very frizzy for about two days after washing it, and looks best on the third day, although still presentable on the 4th day.

Whippet81 · 09/10/2014 11:17

Why don't you just do what suits you - if you don't smell and your hair isn't greasy then carry on.

I get sick to death of people commenting when they find out I wash my hair every day. My hair is in fabulous condition I cannot get away with not washing it.

There is no right or wrong answer - also depends on lifestyle - mucking out horses everyday and wearing a riding hat pretty much dictates you shower daily - as I should imagine riding a bike to work.

cherrybombxo · 09/10/2014 11:26

I have a bath and wash my hair every other night. The mornings in between just a quick shower with my hair tied back to keep it dry. I wash my face with my Clinque 3-Step stuff every day, I brush my teeth twice a day and my clothes are clean. My hair would be horribly dry if I washed it every day.

HighwayDragon · 09/10/2014 11:41

I wash my hair every 3-4 days, its very long and very dyed it means I can deep condition it every time I wash it and it's not stripped of its natural oils evey day. dd is bathed 1-2 times a week, because her skin goes dry qnd scaly otherwise

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 09/10/2014 11:44

My DC have about 2 baths a week! They have a stand up wash nightly...just the bits that matter. They also have thick, dry, curly hair which goes NUTS if it goes near the shower or bath. So a bath or shower also means a hair wash and condition which is so time consuming I just cut them down.

They're not big enough to smell yet so they just wash hands, bottoms, armpits and faces every evening.

ihatethecold · 09/10/2014 11:50

My dd14 showers everyday as do I.
My dd11 is ever other day.
I wash my hair every 3 days because it's long and thick and I don't have time to do it more often.
Personally I couldn't stand to not shower every day.
Each to their own.

loudarts · 09/10/2014 11:57

Me and dh bath everyday, I tend to run on the treadmill and he cycles to and from work everyday so we need too. Dc on the other hand have a bath twice a week as a couple of them have eczema and baths make it worse.

Sunnydays999 · 09/10/2014 12:19

Ido like a shower every day but just don't use showergel or a tiny amount .in my teen yearsmy mother got me quite paranoid and I would shower 3 x a day .
I have today I don't suffer with thrush either now - my teen son showers every day

I used to wash my hair every morning. My hairdresser told me I was stripping all the oils from it. I now wash it every second day and the condition and volume have improved significantly.

Offler · 09/10/2014 12:59

We all wash our hair once a week. I bathe every night (for downtime and reading mostly Grin), DP showers every other day, DC's only have a bath 3 times a week (they are 7 and 2).

YackityYakYak · 09/10/2014 13:04

shower gel can be awful for eczema.

You either need a really natural soap or an emollient. If you can tolerate shower gel every few days though, I suspect just a nice natural soap would be fine.

WanderingTrolley1 · 09/10/2014 13:05

I shower every day, sometimes twice if I've over-exerted myself (somehow. I wash my hair twice a week.

Teenager showers every day, but I need to keep a check on it.

2 under 20 months bath once a week (if that).

FunkyBoldRibena · 09/10/2014 13:05

OP -have you tried the non SLS shower gels? They always make the water feel softer and are much less harsh on skin.

HoldenMcGroin · 09/10/2014 13:07

Use plain soap not shower gel, urghhhh soooo slimy, bleurgh

winkywinkola · 09/10/2014 13:08

Op, I think your dm is absolutely ott.

I shower every day as does dh. Teeth twice a day. Hair washed every 3 or 4 days.

Dcs have baths 2 x per week. Sunday and Weds. Unless particularly grubby.

Sunnydays999 · 09/10/2014 13:17

What is Sls showergel ? Any soap iv used has been really bad for my skin

I haven't used soap or cleanser on my face for about 7 years - I am constantly told I look years younger than my age. (I don't wear make up).
I shower most days and always shower after a workout. I just use soap.

DH never uses shampoo - you'd never know.

DD washes occasionally - but then her sweat glands are still not developed...her hair is only ever washed at the hair dressers only - again, you'd never know.

When we visit my MIL I am reeling at the chemical smell of her bathroom comprising of 500 assorted personal wash products, bleach and shower cleaner - it makes my eyes water!

TrisisFour · 09/10/2014 13:23

Like someone said upthread, I shower daily but only wash my hair every other day.

DD has a bath on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. That's it. She's 5.

DH also showers daily but sometimes twice because he's got quite a physical job.

LST · 09/10/2014 13:29

I shower every night. DP every other day or sometimes 2. Ds1 3yo and Ds2 9mo everyday without fail.

Whatisaweekend · 09/10/2014 13:33

OMG!! Your OP has been like a lightbulb moment for me!! My dd has always had bad eczema in a small patch but recently has been bathing less (2-3 times a week instead of every night, never really using soap, just relying on the hot water) as an injury has made it a pain and she is doing no sport. Suddenly, her eczema is a whole lot better!!!!

I feel such an idiot but reading your OP has made it so clear to me!! THANK YOU!!!

Oh and btw I think it sounds perfectly fine and your mum is probably a bit of a clean freak!!

YackityYakYak · 09/10/2014 13:34

I don't mean the plain soap from the supermarket, I mean the lurvely soaps that are handmade using lovely moisturising oils, without all the chemical additives/preservatives.

And with essential oils rather than fragrance oils - bleugh to fragrance oils on skin. Makes my skin itch just thinking about fragrance oils.
