Or are we mingas !
My mum. Showers at least once a day sometimes more . We were encouraged to do the same .i spend my childhood with awful eczema and blathering creams on to moisturise my poor skin .
My mum as shocked when she found out how much we wash .
My daughter has thick curly hair it was always matted iv cut down to washing it twice a week - it's now gorgeous . She will have 3 baths a week twice her hair will be washed . Most of the days she doesn't bath she will have a wipe down with wipes or a sink wash - no eczema
I shower most days but a lot of the time don't use soap or shower gel .I wash my hair every other as it's fine - mother is appalled are we really that abnormal ?!

No, I don't think your mother is over the top. I wash the same amount she does and have no issues. YABU.

I have a bath or shower every day. Ds (16 months) has a bath most days but it's a part of his bedtime routine. I only use shampoo on his hair twice a week though. DP showers every other day unless he's working somewhere dusty then it's every day.

IShallCallYouSquishy · 09/10/2014 13:51

Me and DH shower every morning. I wash my hair twice a week (damaged so avoiding having to dry it etc)

DD has a bath most evening. Hair washed twice a week. Her hair is beautiful condition. She's 2.4

DS has a bath with DD on the nights that DH is home in time. Othetwise trying to dress a wriggly 7.5 month old and stop him crawling off to try and lick the loo, while supervising DD is not easy!

Mammanat222 · 09/10/2014 13:51

We only have a bath (although finally moving into a place with a shower after 7 years of a bath only)

I will have a bath most days, sometimes even two in the height of summer. Excessive I know but otherwise I can be stinky / feel really unclean. When it's really hot I bath every morning and every second night to wash hair.

We used to do bath, bottle, bed when DS was young but he was eventually diagnosed with eczema (took several GP visits for them to finally diagnose) so we started bathing him 2-3 times a week.

That was 18 months ago, skin is perfect now and we only bath him more often when he has sun-cream on / gets into a state.

DixieTrix · 09/10/2014 14:02

I have not been able to use soaps or shower gels for years due to eczema but the one thing that both I and my daughter can use instead is Infacare baby bath (but used as shower gel) It has never caused a problem to either of our skin. Also I keep a separate shower scrunchy and load with baby oil to put over my body once water off and before I get out. Don't rub dry just pat with towel, you drip dry really quickly with oil on.it stops my skin getting tight, sore or scaly. Skin feels lovely and very rarely need creams. I was getting it badly on my hands and find using disposable gloves to wash hair stopped shampoo irritating my hands further.

BingBong36 · 09/10/2014 15:46

OMG I am shocked by how little people shower themselves and their DC!!!

I shower every day – any less than that I would feel really dirty. My DC 2 and 5 also have a bath every day without fail.

Children especially get very yucky playing at the playground, not wiping themselves properly etc – they also love the bath and it is part of our routine.

To only bath them say 2-3 times a week I think is really quite disgusting. By the time you have given them a sink wash you may as well just give them a quick bath and they would be a lot cleaner!

aintnothinbutagstring · 09/10/2014 16:05

My DH has awful dry cracked skin all over his body, he showers everyday which I think is fine btw but he absolutely scrubs his skin with soap when hes in there then slathers himself in body lotion - I don't think he see's the irony.

winkywinkola · 10/10/2014 00:09

Bingbong, I love a germ!

I've tried bathing my dcs every day. Their skin goes crackers.

So a few germs are fine by me. Their asses, hands and faces are very clean every day.

Snatchoo · 10/10/2014 01:13

I shower most days. Sometimes I'll shower in the evening and then not in the morning, but only now when the weather is cooler.

DC are 5,5 and 2 - they get showered or bathed twice a week unless particularly stinky!

Snatchoo · 10/10/2014 01:14

Oh and I wash my hair maybe twice a week. It's very dry though, never gets greasy.

VermillionPorcupine · 10/10/2014 01:55

To only bath them say 2-3 times a week I think is really quite disgusting

Good grief, get a grip.

goodasitgets · 10/10/2014 02:20

I wash my hair every 2 or 3 days with conditioner only, don't use shampoo
Shower/bath depends but at the least it's every other day

MrsMook · 10/10/2014 05:23

Generally 2 or 3 times a week with any necessary extras such as after sweaty exercise or generally feeling icky. DSs a minimum of a couple of times, again extra when we need to. They get good wipe downs as.they need it, but they are young enough that they don't get greasy and whiffy, dirt depends on what they've been doing.

We naturally have dry sensitive skin, and a tendency to eczema and allergies. Our skin is in good condition at present. Ds1 was once so covered that it was hard to identify the few patches that didn't need cream. My face feels very tIghtfield with too much washing.

Hurr1cane · 10/10/2014 06:28

See my DP has that thing where his eczema gets really bad if he washes too much.

Mine and DSs gets horrific if we skip a shower Confused just one.

Akroniphadrakeina · 10/10/2014 06:36

My DC have a bath every night. I don't want to wash DD's hair every day, but usually I end up doing so because she's put food in it or its filthy from rolling around in the grass/sand etc. I imagine I won't wash it so often once the weather turns - I have very bad hay fever so always wash hair before bed if theres a lot of pollen around and as I often have to go to her in the night, I need her bed to be pollen free. DS is the same, although I tend to wash his by habit now, it probably doesn't need it as much. It is part of their routine, the only time they are not washed before bed is if they fall asleep just before bed time and don't wake whilst we brush their teeth.

If I don't wash my hair every day then I get very greasy skin on my face and it feels horrible. I don't leave the house without showering and washing my hair. I also shower and hair wash in the summer especially if covered in sand cream, sand etc also to minimise my hay fever. I am constantly asking DH if I smell and if I need a shower! This is probably clouded by growing up with a family who doesn't believe in deodorant (because it wasn't invented when he was a childHmm) because soap is enough. It is not. He stinks, in the summer it is not possible to sit or stand near him as it makes me gag, you see people visibly recoiling from him. He stayed in our spare room and we had to have the windows fully open for two weeks before the smell had gone from the room. But if I say anything it is just me being spiteful.

FunkyBoldRibena · 10/10/2014 07:02

SLS is sodium laurenth sulphate. It is basically a massive industrial degreaser. And it is in so many cleansing products it is scarey.

I only use non SLS, non paraben shower gels now and the difference to my skin is fantastic. naked is one brand, dr organic from holland and barrett is another. Have a try of one and see if it makes any difference.

mdpis3 · 10/10/2014 08:37

I have a bath every morning and wash my hair every morning. DH showers every morning. DC bathes every night (complete with snorkel and goggles) and I wash her bottom length hair twice a week and after swimming. Quite why anyone would care how much anyone did or didn't shower/bathe is beyond me. Do what works for you and yours.

NoodleOodle · 10/10/2014 08:53

You'd all freak out at how infrequently I wash. But, I don't smell. I know this for sure as a very honest (too honest sometimes) friend sniffed my armpit yesterday and I smell vaguely of washing powder to her, and no one has ever indicated that I smell. As a teenager, I showered or bathed every day. I washed at least a few times a week till my periods stopped, now... I don't need to.

BingBong36 · 10/10/2014 10:26

Good grief, get a grip.

but why only bath them 2-3 times a week - i dont get it??

there is nothing nicer than a bubble bath before bed.. my kids love it, and after spending a day at school/football/playground/soft play they need it!

winkywinkola · 10/10/2014 11:25

Because their skin gets very dry. Bubble bath can be really drying.

HavanaSlife · 10/10/2014 11:34

Me evwry other day, dp and ds 1 every day due to work. Ds2 11 is every other day and the 3 and 20 month old depend if they are dirty/ if I can be bothered. I used to bath the little ones every day just to break up that awful whiney time between dinner and bed time but it made their skin really dry.

rota09 · 10/10/2014 12:27

Me and oh shower every day (hair washed every two to three days)
10yr old dd bath three times a week, strip wash (essentials) am and pm. Thick curly dry hair washed once a week.
18month dd2 two times a week unless grubby.

loveandsmiles · 10/10/2014 12:39

Bingbong - I totally agree with you - I was starting to think I was a bit strange but I think the same - just as quick, if not quicker to pop them in a bath and much cleanerSmile

My eldest 2 DC have a shower every morning, swim every week night and have a shower afterwards and baths at weekend. Youngest 3 DC have 2 baths a day - morning and night. DH showers every morning and I shower morning and night - phew - squeaky clean in this house Grin

Guess it's whatever works best for you......

Espii · 10/10/2014 12:50

i shower every day and wash my hair every day, my Dsis showers maybe 2-3 times a week but only washes her very long, very thick and bushy mane (sort of like an afro) once or twice a week.

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 10/10/2014 13:55

Shower and wash hair every morning, but I've suffered with night sweats since my late teens so don't really have a choice.

I do however remember as a child the Sunday night bath routine and only having a wash of the important bits during the week. But it was the 70s, we didn't have a shower then and it took at least 20 mins to fill the bath. I also have clear memories of being bathed in the kitchen sink!
