To want a night in a hotel BY MYSELF

DS is 2.3 and has never once slept through the night. He always wakes for at the very least a couple of hours screaming the place down. I can either go to him and take him into bed with me where he proceeds to wriggle and kick or put up with it which I can't do. DD manages to sleep through it. DP helps when hes here but works away half the week meaning he gets 3-4 nights a week of lovely blissful sleep.

AIBU to book a night in a hotel when DP is here, check in as soon as they let me, bath and then sleep until breakfast?

Sometimes friends talk about their fantasy lives - they talk about cocktails on Barbados or cruises or marrying a billionaire and all I can think is that I'd like an undisturbed nights sleep.

Go go go!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 07/10/2014 04:00

I agree with Mrsmarkjacobs that two nights is required.

Amy106 · 07/10/2014 04:44

Do it and enjoy every minute! Smile

thetimeisnow · 07/10/2014 07:11

YANBU

my dh works away every other week, we have a 3.3 year old who still wakes in the night. He insists it's not that great to stay away.

This is my fantasy break too!

Do it if you can!

toomuchtooold · 07/10/2014 07:26

YANBU, but if I were you I'd take hotel money and spend it on a consultation at a sleep clinic for your DS. Two or three hours awake in the night isn't good for any of you.

Fairylea · 07/10/2014 07:35

Yanbu. I think about doing this most days... and never do.

PacificDogwood · 07/10/2014 07:37

YANBU.

I got as far as my finger hovering over a room on booking.com when DS4 was a few months old, but no further… Sad

Go for it.

rubyflipper · 07/10/2014 07:41

I have done this twice: one for one night and another to-night hotel stay.

It was utter bliss.

Even if you don't get as much sleep as you'd like, do not underestimate the sheer delight of being able to wake up when you want and line-up without being pestered to do something.

I'm going away for a night next month and I cannot wait!

rubyflipper · 07/10/2014 07:42

two-night hotel stay. Blush

MrsDavidBowie · 07/10/2014 07:44

I often do it.
And even better, 4 nights at Grayshott Spa the week before Xmas to escape the panic and hysteria.
Bliss

I don't have children who don't sleep the dog thinks 5am every day is appropriate though and yet I still love doing this. Crappy TV or crappy film, room service with a glass bottle of wine, check in at 2pm on the nose or try to convince them for an early check in, room service breakfast, and check out a la Ross Geller at the very moment you absolutely have to. Preferably with a massage, mani-pedi and hair-do too if budget allows.

Its a sanity thing.

WalkingWolf · 07/10/2014 07:54

I'm doing this as a birthday treat to myself. I'm so excited. I haven't had a full night sleep in over 3 years!

Definitely agree there should be a mn hotel for this. Grin

YonicScrewdriver · 07/10/2014 07:58

I've done this. It helped a lot.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/10/2014 08:01

I think YABU...not to have booked this yet! DO IT!!

FelixTitling · 07/10/2014 08:05

I did this when premier inn had a sale. I got a room for £19.

Had dinner and read my book, then went to bed and slept all night. Didn't even put the tv on.

In the morning I had a lovely uninterrupted shower and breakfast.

Was lovely.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/10/2014 18:09

So op. You have the ringing endorsement of mn. I hope you've booked a room xxx

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 07/10/2014 18:19

This is my fantasy too. I have a 3yo and a 2yo and haven't had a full nights sleep since I got pregnant with dd in sept 2010! I'm pregnant with dc3, think i should book a hotel before the night feeds start.
Go for it!!Grin

I do this every six months and have done since DS was two - he is now seven!

DH works away three nights a week. He stays in a hotel chain where he gets points and six months of points he gives to me bless him! Then I go into London for a weekend, go to a matinee at the theatre with a ticket from the concessions booth in Leicester Square, have a walk around Covent Garden, back to the hotel, watch telly in peace, have a lovely bubbly bath then have a great nights sleep and go off to the British Museum or over to the South Bank on the Sunday. I get home really looking forward to seeing DS and DH and they have usually had a great time stuffing their faces with pizza and doing dad and son stuff! My only rule is that I step right back when DH takes over. If he wants them to spend the weekend in pyjamas watching rugby on the Saturday and eating takeaways that is absolutely fine. It is their weekend too so mum's rules don't apply!

If your DH is away regularly check if he can get a points card. Then the night away just costs whatever you get to eat rather than the cost of the room.

I did this once in a 5* hotel in York. Was amazing. Stayed for two nights.

Did Xmas shopping in York and the hotel had a pool and a spa. So did lots of swimming, had a massage. Ate junk food, had lunch out, read books, watched TV.

joanofarchitrave · 07/10/2014 18:31

I did a 15 mile walk on the local long-distance path, stopped at a pub and ate a curry while reading a book, then checked into a B&B at about 5.15pm, had a four hour bath and sleeeeeeeept. The only thing wrong with it was it wasn't two nights long.

Agree re the sleep clinic.

Esmum07 · 07/10/2014 18:34

BTW, don't worry about checking in as soon as the hotel lets you. Just leave your bags at the desk and take yourself off somewhere nice for the morning/afternoon. Check in is often 3 or 4pm in cities so dump your stuff and enjoy a bit of sight seeing or cinema or theatre in peace and quiet!

Aherdofmims · 07/10/2014 18:39

Do it if you possibly can.

I made sure I started working away from time to time once I had dc!

raltheraffe · 07/10/2014 18:52

I do this once every few months, nice hotel and spa, lovely.

cailindana · 07/10/2014 19:31

Yanbu.

KenDodddied · 07/10/2014 19:57

I just agreed to a last minute work trip away for precisley this reason, the lure of a quiet hotel room. I have an 18month old who was waking in night and up at 5:30 (usually sleeps through but had a 6week blip) and was 34 weeks pregnant. I was so excited and had it all planned; bath, room service and an early night.

There was a convention on in the (European) city I was visiting and the only hotel my travel dept. could find was a cross between the Shining hotel and Faulty Towers. I ended up putting my single (!) mattress on the floor as it was so uncomfortable. I was beyond gutted.
