I hope not, I'm getting mine installed tomorrow.

Nomama · 05/10/2014 17:12

I have just bought a house with 10 year old white on in it. We bought some odd bits and pieced to make it useable for us... took a little bit of re-engineering.. but DH was impressed with the quality and price!

MrsMinton · 05/10/2014 17:14

My ikea kitchen is twelve years old. I'm changing the doors to revamp it a bit but it's still solid and the carcasses have no damage at all. I would replace it with another ikea one of we were changing the layout.

moaningminnie2 · 05/10/2014 17:14

We bought one 7 years ago and the paint is flaking off round teh edges of the doors.

WeirdCatLady · 05/10/2014 17:16

No experience of their kitchens but our living room furniture (tv unit, bookcases, side tables) are still going strong 20 years on!

thenightsky · 05/10/2014 17:17

I'd love an ikea kitchen Envy

Tingatingatale · 05/10/2014 17:18

My husband is a kitchen fitter and they're the only kitchens he won't fit

LumpySpacedPrincess · 05/10/2014 17:20

Why won't he fit them?

fascicle · 05/10/2014 17:21

No problems with ours.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/10/2014 17:23

Have a look in the showroom as some of the doors etc are better quality then others. Carcasses etc are fine quality. We assembled ours our self and had absolutely no problems.

PacificDogwood · 05/10/2014 17:24

Ours was great (old house)

How good it's going to be long-term, will hugely depend on how well it was fitted.
One of our tall units bowed a bit when filled with an (expensive and v heavy) oven and a microwave, so had a metal brace fitted to the back.

gentlehoney · 05/10/2014 17:25

Ours is still going strong after twenty-odd years. How it is fitted is probably as important as the quality.

Fannydabbydozey · 05/10/2014 17:28

Lots of interior designers use ikea carcasses...

Marvs · 05/10/2014 17:30

Got ours 3 years ago, used the ikea kitchen fitter. It still looks like new, we love it

caeleth84 · 05/10/2014 17:33

Got ours 4 or 5 years ago, had no problems whatsoever and it still looks and works great. Admittedly some of the drawers aren't perfectly fitted, but I'm more inclined to blame DH than IKEA for that ;)

pearlgirl · 05/10/2014 17:35

Had ours fitted nine years ago - still going strong - added some bits last year and it is great.

Redhead11 · 05/10/2014 17:35

I had an Ikea kitchen in my last house and loved it. No problem with them at all.

Methe · 05/10/2014 17:36

Why would buying an ikea be unreasonable?

ChippingInLatteLover · 05/10/2014 17:38

If you are paying to have it fit for you, it's worth talking to the fitter first. What you might save on the units you might spend on extra fitting costs.

Spindarella · 05/10/2014 17:38

Yes, I'm more and more impressed with ikea. I think all of the prices are appropriate for the quality but even the cheapest stuff is pretty durable.

Queenofknickers · 05/10/2014 17:39

I love my ikea kitchen - no problems

Rainbunny · 05/10/2014 18:02

Tintergate - I'm genuinely interested to know, why won't your DH install Ikea kitchens? Is there something that we should be aware of?

The last place I live had an Ikea kitchen and I loved it. Countertops held up very well, no scratches etc... and the cabinets looked like new (the place was 6 years old). They were the glass fronted cabinets which looked really IMO.

notoneforselfies · 05/10/2014 18:13

Fitters don't like to fit them as they are a bit of a pain to fit due to lack or service channels. We put ours together ourselves very easily with help from a carpenter to do the worktop (oak) to cut to size properly and cut out hole for hob etc and then a gas man to connect up the hob. And electrician to wire in the oven. Oh and plumber to do the sink as it was in an awkward place! All appliances from there (oven, hob, dishwasher and washing machine) and they are all brilliant. I think they are hotpoint white labelled ikea, or a similar top brand. I love their storage, can't beat it anywhere else.

notoneforselfies · 05/10/2014 18:13

*lack OF

DespicableMeh · 05/10/2014 18:18

We got ours fitted five years ago (independent fitter) and it still looks brand new - also got dishwasher, US style f/f, oven and hob, all of which have never had any problems. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
