David Cameron may respect William Hague, and indeed some of the things he has done as Foreign Secretary are to be applauded, but surely the PM has lost the plot in suggesting he is the Greatest Living Yorkshireman?

Several have been suggested and you may think of others

Michael Parkinson
Michael Palin
Alan Bennett
Brian Blessed
Geoffrey Boycott

and that is without a separate thread for Greatest Living Yorkshirewoman (it is possibly Jessica Ennis-Hill).

I would go for Gary Verity for bringing the tour de france to Yorkshire and Nicola Adams who is just awesome and lovely.

"Greatest living" anyone is pretty meaningless, like when people are paying tribute to someone who just died, suddenly they become "the world's finest" or "best selling.." actor/actress/comedian/musician.... When everyone can come up with loads of other examples.

I just think of Jarvis as some kind of perfect deity. He doesn't even enter into it, because it wouldn't be fair to the others... Skinny tall guys from Sheffield are the hottest men ever and I'm married to one
