To think that William Hague is not the 'Greatest Living Yorkshireman'

David Cameron may respect William Hague, and indeed some of the things he has done as Foreign Secretary are to be applauded, but surely the PM has lost the plot in suggesting he is the Greatest Living Yorkshireman?

Several have been suggested and you may think of others

Michael Parkinson
Michael Palin
Alan Bennett
Brian Blessed
Geoffrey Boycott

and that is without a separate thread for Greatest Living Yorkshirewoman (it is possibly Jessica Ennis-Hill).

I thought Cain Dingle was the greatest living Yorkshire man? Wink

Eve · 03/10/2014 11:17

what larrythecucumber said,

the others are great in their fields I'm sure but what have they used their roles and influence to achieve?

Have any of them driven forward the campaign against rape in warzones?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/10/2014 11:21

Surely its Jeremy Clarkson WinkShock

chopinbabe · 03/10/2014 13:31

James Martin does mention it. I saw a piece about him in a magazine that was about how much he loves Yorkshire.

Bowlersarm · 03/10/2014 13:43

Geoffrey Boycott??? - can't stand him. But Michael Vaughn, Fred Trueman ate pretty cool.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 03/10/2014 13:44

Well done Chazs you've managed to find an example of a worse Yorkshireman than WH!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 03/10/2014 13:45

Fred Trueman, like Charlotte Bronte, is too dead for this game Grin

trevortrevorslattery · 03/10/2014 13:46

YANBU as obviously it is David Batty

Bowlersarm · 03/10/2014 14:25

Oh yes, didn't register the important living word in the OP Blush.

CMP69 · 03/10/2014 14:29

If there are any men still alive in Yorkshire then no he isn't

gordyslovesheep · 03/10/2014 14:39

oh yes what CMP69 said with bells on

Mrsfrumble · 03/10/2014 20:53

I agree with CMP69.

I'd vote for Dominic West. He's certainly the most fuckable.

mrspremise · 03/10/2014 20:58

Alan Bennett, without question sorry DH but you know it's true

Laidbackorlazy · 03/10/2014 21:32

Jarvis cocker. Followed by my dad.
William Hague in millionth place

Bolshybookworm · 03/10/2014 21:44

How could I forget about Jarvis?!

Laidbackorlazy · 03/10/2014 21:52

Jarvis is pretty much the world's greatest living man, never mind yorkshire. If Jarvis ever knocked on our door Dh would know to get his coat Grin

rhetorician · 03/10/2014 21:58

David Hockney?

fishdishwish · 03/10/2014 23:14

Another vote for Bennett here, with Palin, Jarvis & Barry Cryer as runners-up.

PausingFlatly · 03/10/2014 23:19

Maybe Hague is the only living Yorkshireman whom Shiny Dave has met.

We know he's not exactly gifted at grasping ideas outside his personal experience.

WitchWay · 03/10/2014 23:38

He is my MP & I used to vote for him, but didn't last time as I am completely fed up with him.

He's probably fed up with the ranting professional who picks holes in the NHS plans me & I'm sick of the bland toeing-party-line replies that say absolutely fuck all.

I'd vote for Parky Smile

WitchWay · 03/10/2014 23:40

Actually it isn't Parky but John Harrison carpenter & clock maker

BigfootFiles · 03/10/2014 23:46

Geoffrey Boycott was convicted of domestic abuse.

moaningminnie2 · 03/10/2014 23:46

..and don't forget Alan Titchmarsh

AgaPanthers · 04/10/2014 00:21

www.samizdata.net/2008/06/geoff-boycott-a/

TheGirlFromIpanema · 04/10/2014 00:34

Kevin Sinfield gets my vote above all the others, but WH might be the best living Yorkshireman currently in politics I suppose.
