To ask for my money back and leave my food in Greggs

I know I'm going to be told I was unreasonable for shopping in Greggs in the first place, I'm even more quick tempered/lacking patience than normal ATM so I'm doubting myself and wondering if I was being unreasonable .

So I only work the 10 -2 and as such have no lunch break and often go without until 5, simply cos I'm not all that hungry, my line manager however does encourage me to pop out and get a sandwich around 12 ish as everyone is eating around then.

Yesterday I went out on a work errand and called in to Greggs on the way back just a sandwich, can and cake, I handed over a £10 note and the lad serving looked confused then called er I've got no £5 notes, to someone serving some one else. Now it's not an official break I don't like being out of the office that long, but he just stares at the till, so I say can you just give me the change in pound coins I need to get back to work. He nods and carries on staring at the till until the person he's called too goes yes I'll get you some £5 notes then he hands me the change in pound coins which he clearly could have done 5 minutes before. So ok I'm slightly annoyed by left with my food and change.

Anyway today I was really looking forward to lunch today it's such a rarity the same lad was serving again sandwich out of the fringe with the can I picked up myself and a bun, he placed all my items in a bag and said how much it would be and handed me the bag, I again handed over £10 note he stared at the till with it in his hand and then went er what did you buy again, confused as he'd just told me how much it was I asked what he was asking he said what's in the bag? The bag he's just packed and handed me. So I place the bag on the counter and say please give me my money back I'll go somewhere else! It was more the fact he had been similarly slow yesterday that annoyed me most and it probably was a little stroppy.

I almost felt like going back to the office without anything, ended up with a sandwich I didn't really like, just wonder if I allowed my stress levels to raise unnecessarily!

Christ! If I had a pound for everytime my mind went totally blank whilst I was serving I'd be rich. It happens when you've been serving customer after customer and probably in need of a sitdown yourself.

If you are so rushed for time, why not pick up something before you go to work?
At the most it will be 2 1/2 hours before you eat it. Sandwiches will still be good, as will other snacks.
Drinks will be slightly warm, but if you have a fridge at work, not such a big problem.

Poor lad! this is why I hate working behind a counter, customers are so damn rude.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 02/10/2014 13:18

Poor lad nothing! He's obviously not ready to be left alone. Maybe he's in the wrong job.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 02/10/2014 13:19

kali this lad's mind went blank both times he served OP!

To be honest, I've worked in a lot of shops and there's little excuse. Apart from learning difficulties.

BlueberryWafer · 03/10/2014 08:43

Some of you are so rude! Have you ever thought maybe he had a lot on his mind that particular week? He is a human being, not just someone who serves your food. Is it really the end of the world if you had to say "no problem, I've got a ham sandwich, bottle of water and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps" it would have taken all of 15 seconds.

borisgudanov · 03/10/2014 21:42

The people that work in our Greggs are all old enough that you'd think they'd known Moses personally and their mental arithmetic is shit hot. But they speak like "Ur you wantin that sausage roll en a poke or in the wean's gub, hen?" And the punters look like they peel bananas with their feet.

So? We are not robots! I had to carry on working when i found out my dad was terminally ill, im pretty sure i forgot a few orders in that time.
Maybe it was busy before op went in.
We are all human. Cut the poor guy some slack. He forgot the order. Not a huge crime or bad service. It would have taken op 30 seconds to tell him what she had, instead she through a fit and went elsewhere which took much longer and probably made someone feel like shit.

There is one blessing in all of this, it has probably put you off going back and the young man wont have to put up with your snootiness again.

Honestly, if you know you only have a few minutes to grab a sandwich, take something in with you, it probably took you longer to storm off into another shop than it would have if you'd just been a little more patient.
