To ask smokers to move away from station entrance?

PinkyAndTheBump · 29/09/2014 18:41

I don't like walking through a cloud of smoke to get into station. It's a small station, with single entrance on this side of tracks - like double French doors, so no other alternative.

Would it be unreasonable to request Greater Anglia to mark out a hashed yellow "no-smoking" area there? It's not as if it actually provides them any shelter from the weather than standing elsewhere, and don't get me started on the litter of their stubs!

I've tried (politely) asking smokers not to stand right by the entrance, but just get verbal abuse back!

You can ask Greater Anglia, that's not being unreasonable. Don't hold your breath.

Actually, do, then your problem will be solved! Grin

Non smoker here but I actually find smoking is becoming less and less in public places since the ban and possibly since I had children and tend to frequent sadly wholesome child welcoming places.

A little bit here and there really is a massive improvement.

AdmitYouKnowImRight · 29/09/2014 19:22

it's not been proven that passive Lynx inhalation has any health concerns

Well dearie - I think you will find pressurised containers cause asthma attacks hence being banned in schools and other confined spaces

was that wink your eye or your arse contracting?

PinkyAndTheBump · 29/09/2014 19:28

AdmitYouKnowImRight

I had no idea about Lynx etc triggering asthma attacks. It's bad enough when it's been on for 20mins, so I guess freshly sprayed it would be fairly noxious!

Urgh, my pet hate. Worst of all
Is people smoking in bus shelters. Why should I have to choose between getting wet or breathing in second hand smoke that clings to my hair and clothes?

MrsPiggie · 29/09/2014 19:29

If you think perfume inhalation has no health concerns then all I can say you're terribly lucky not to be one of the one in 20 people suffering from of perfume allergy. Well done you.

Scarletohello · 29/09/2014 19:33

Well I think we should ban all people eating fast food in public places. It stinks. Fat people wearing clothes that don't suit them, people who think people in soaps are real, Tories, sexism, people who can't use correct grammar.

AIBU?

Yes, probably.

Viviennemary · 29/09/2014 19:37

You forgot UKIP. Grin

AdmitYouKnowImRight · 29/09/2014 19:41

Smoking fuckers, paying all that tax to subsidise the rest of you and having the decency to die early. You ungrateful bastards

londonrach · 29/09/2014 19:45

You can smell someone who smokes full stop in shops but in the street whilst they are actually smoking its hard not to be sick. As im getting older the smell is getting worse. Any smoker who says they dont smell is unaware how bad it s to none smokers or ex smokers. Yanbu but legally nothing you can do...

cruikshank · 29/09/2014 19:53

UKIP voters should get the uzi. The fucking uzi, I tell you.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 29/09/2014 19:53

Yeah I used to hate that when I smoked. Couldn't move for the flying puke wherever I went. I slipped in some once and cracked my head open. Didn't go to hospital though. I knew I didn't deserve treatment because it was my Own Stupid Fault.

Yanbu but legally nothing you can do...

You could start a petition to make it legal to shoot them.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 29/09/2014 19:58

Y.N.B.U but then neither are the smokers. They've got to stand somewhere. I suppose.
If the government want everywhere smoke free why don't they just stop selling Cigarettes altogether and smokers will just have to climb the walls for a few months but to sell them to people and say but you can only smoke them in certain places is imo out of order. Oh of course I know why they wont stop selling them. That thing called taxes.

melw74 · 29/09/2014 20:07

Smokers get a hard time wherever they smoke. Banned from smoking in public places and that is not good enough either. I do not think it matters where we smoke NOWHERE would be good enough.

Scarletohello · 29/09/2014 20:08

Oh damn I forgot UKIP!!

And women who wear fake buns, fake tans, fake eyelashes, can I ban them too cos I really don't like them?

NoImSpartacus · 30/09/2014 15:56

"Sorry but if its legal where they are standing, suck it up"

Nice attitude.

Try 'sucking it up' when just one breath of someone's rancid second hand smoke can induce an asthma attack.

limitedperiodonly · 30/09/2014 16:03
  1. YABU
  2. Discarded fag butts annoy me, but no more, and sometimes less than other litter
  3. I am not and have never been a smoker
  4. I have a pearl diver's ability when holding my breath.
ApocalypseThen · 30/09/2014 16:33

I just wish smokers didn't actually flick fag ash towards other people in bus shelters. Real pet hate.

Vintagejazz · 30/09/2014 16:38

YANBU. Always love the justifications that smokers come up with on these threads, though.

olgaga · 30/09/2014 16:46

Why not carry a can of Lynx with you. Spray copious amounts in the air as you walk through the smoking crowd!

ithoughtofitfirst · 30/09/2014 16:49

Smoking is cool and you know it.

VenusRising · 30/09/2014 16:49

Yes, loving the aggressive and defensive shite smokers are hacking up here Grin
It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so delusional.

ThatBloodyWoman · 30/09/2014 16:51

ithought Grin

ThatBloodyWoman · 30/09/2014 16:56

I can see both sides, but it seems the anti -smoking thing has reached fever pitch over the last few years.
Ok there's some whose asthma is triggered by fag smoke.Just like there's some whose asthma is triggered by lynx.
But imo it seems to be primarily about intolerance, in most instances.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 30/09/2014 16:56

You can't uzi UKIP voters, that's completely unreasonable. Think how much it would cost. We should force them all to go and live in Paris, amongst French people.

Vintagejazz · 30/09/2014 16:57

Yes, some people are very intolerant of smelly, cough provoking smoke being blown on them as they stand waiting for a bus or queueing at an ATM machine.
