To have shouted at this person for taking more than 2 apples from my box of apples outside my

I have an apple tree in my garden which grows nice big cooking apples. We just moved here and I thought it would be nice to put a box outside our house for neighbours.

Anyway, I put a sign up saying "free to take, 2 per person" so all our neighbours got some.

I just saw a man come in a car and was piling up a tesco bag full of my apples and taking them to his boot.

I went running outside and asked him what he thought he was doing and to put them back. He looked at me and said it says free apples. I told him it's 2 per person. He just ignored me and sat in his car and drove off.

Now my box of apples is empty and some person who doesn't even live on my road has taken them all. I'm really not happy.

Why would someone do this? AIBU?

I would like to let you all know that I made an apple and almond pudding today that used only two large cooking apples - should I make the recipe available here, for the OP to attach to her box? Grin

The apple is more of a flavouring, there is no way that two large apples would be enough to make a pie or crumble.

VivaLeBeaver · 28/09/2014 19:47

We need the OP from the "nobody owns any land" thread to turn up and debate the ethical aspect of owning apples from a tree in your garden. Grin

PiperIsOrange · 28/09/2014 20:03

Perhaps he needed all those apples to feed his goat.

KatieKaye · 28/09/2014 20:04

Huge thanks for the links!
Big Red - is your son still pooing behind the curtains? TBH that would bother me a lot more than a pile of horse poo in the road.

whatever5 · 28/09/2014 20:21

I don't think that many (or any) of your neighbours would have wanted the apples anyway, if they were cooking apples and they could only have two. I doubt whether any of them would have thought that you were particularly generous either. They would have just assumed that you had a surplus and needed to get rid of them before they went off.

The man who took them all was very greedy but some people are like that. We never go to all you can eat buffets for that reason (the greed is irritating).

Only1scoop · 28/09/2014 20:22

Can you do spuds next time please Op....

One potato
Two potato
Three potato....steady
Four....stop thief Shock

bearleftmonkeyright · 28/09/2014 20:22

Op I have a glut of plums, I am thinking of restricting those to two per person as they are quite large and purple.

Laymizzrarb · 28/09/2014 20:31

I so wish you lived near me. If I had seen your sign I would have just thought 'how controlling' and a picture of the sign would have been all over Twitter and facebook so everyone could share the joke.

BigRedBall · 28/09/2014 21:31

Well thank you for all your messages. I'm glad it made some of you laugh even though I was quite angry this meowing.

I have no updates I'm afraid. Apple thief man didn't come back. I've deleted his number plate pic too...no use will come of it.

I may put out some more apples tomorrow. I'd like to promote healthy eating..we have loads of chidren walking by who could benefit from a healthy snack. I'm sure there'll be no horses coming by Wink

Oh and someone mentioned something about my husband using tampons to treat piles... NO! I had to go back and check it wasn't true incase I'd forgotten! He most certainly does NOT Do this! I had commented on someone else's thread!

And to katie no, he doesn't do this anymore. He either leaves the room or hides under the table now because potty training has begun so he makes sure I'm not around to make him sit on the potty!

Aeroflotgirl · 28/09/2014 21:35

Oh wow this is a serious thread omg op. You have made us all laugh.

Gruntfuttock · 28/09/2014 21:38

OP, if potty training has now begun, wouldn't he have been wearing a nappy back when you said he was pooing behind the curtains? Confused

Only1scoop · 28/09/2014 21:39

Oh Op you bloody good sport ....you have given us a chuckle or two today....

Wine Have an appletize on me

BigRedBall · 28/09/2014 21:46

gruntfuttock yes he's always wearing a nappy. He used to just stand behind the curtain and strain loudly. Then a waft of poo used to greet my nose a few seconds later.

Glad to hear that, BigRed!

TheWitTank · 28/09/2014 23:05

Nice to see you take all the ribbing on the chin op. Can't think any child is going to enjoy munching on a cooking apple as a snack though!

Aeroflotgirl · 28/09/2014 23:07

I think that they are a bit bitter

FlorenceMattell · 28/09/2014 23:12

This thread has cheered me up :) OP you are batty but honest.
OP When you give you must do so without thought or want of any personal gain. Otherwise all good karma is wiped out.
I fear you have been greedy in your own life and this guy was actually a karma fairy paying you back. No good dialing 101 I'm afraid he he

Rae25 · 28/09/2014 23:25

I think it's really sad when people "good deeds" for the recognition rather than to actually just be nice

Karenthetoadslayer · 29/09/2014 09:44

You are most definitely being a good sport OP. Flowers I think you are doing great, sticking to your guns.

Just a word of warning: I'd install surveillance cameras before putting out any more apples. The apple thief may be lurking round the corner, Tesco bag at the ready.

Stealthpolarbear · 29/09/2014 09:51

This is mad

Fun for the children - to come and get apples out of a box??

And a healthy snack, I thought you said they were cooking apples? Shooting stomach pains don't sound very healthy to me!!

londonrach · 29/09/2014 09:58

Strange just putting 2 on the sign. I have people who give apples to me as we love our eve pudding. It takes more than 2 apples to make that. (A whole bag sue to bad apples etc). In all my time doing home visits in the country and seeing apples free help yourself i have never seen a limit. Still nice of you to offer op but why the limit?

Icimoi · 29/09/2014 09:59

What he did was theft; he was only entitled to take two apples. Therefore you could indeed report him.

Aeroflotgirl · 29/09/2014 10:03

Ici please do not indulge the op, what do you think the Police will do!

sparechange · 29/09/2014 10:22

The mounted police NEVER clear up their horse poo, so I don't think they can be trusted...

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 29/09/2014 10:29

I imagine the police have got more important things to worry about Ici.eg murders rapists ect
