To walk out of Boots

Popped into Boots before work this morning. Found the clothing I wanted for DS but they didn't have his size. So I asked for help. "no they are all out" No problem, can I order it? . She then grudgingly said she'd go and look for it in stock but it probably wasn't there. Vanished for 5 minutes, reappeared muttering to another member of staff about the lift being out of order, vanished in another direction for another 5 minutes.

When she returned she walked straight past me, I said Hello and she muttered that she would have to order it. I followed her to the till where she proceeded to look for a book, and complain to the other member of staff that it wasn't where she left it. Still ignoring me.

So I said forget it, in what might have been an irritated way, and left. Only to hear her running after me talking about books and the website. I'm afraid I ignored her and kept on walking, partly because I did need to be at work, mostly because I was fuming. I should have at least explained I had to be at work. So hoping for reassurance you'd have done the same.
She'll think I'm even more of a loon if I go back to apologise won't she?

Don't apologise, she was rude and incompetent.

LineRunner · 25/09/2014 19:46

I would have walked out too.

DanyStormborn · 25/09/2014 19:47

She was rude first - don't bother apologising. She should have been providing better customer service.

pictish · 25/09/2014 19:55

Would, and have. I hate being treated like an inconvenience by shop staff. And before anyone goes nuts...I have worked in retail myself, so I know exactly what it's like dealing with Joe Public.

Only this week I called the sales dept of a company that I wanted to make a big, expensive purchase with. The member of staff who took my call was so dismissive and disinterested in helping me, I had a change of heart, and bought from another company instead.

I wouldn't hang about in Boots to be grumped at. Worst staff I've ever come across were in Mothercare. I walked out of a buggy sale there, and bought somewhere else.

Explored · 25/09/2014 19:58

That sort of thing drives me wild. There was a time when not only wold I have walked out, I'd have sent a written complaint, but I've mellowed a bit with age.

Andrewofgg · 25/09/2014 19:59

Where the hell do Boots find their so-called assistants from? I ahve never found them anything but useless.

LadyLuck10 · 25/09/2014 20:01

Why on earth would you want to grovel back to apologize. Forget it and move on, she probably forgot about you 5 minutes later.

londonrach · 25/09/2014 20:15

Just had that in marks and spencer. Member of staff were so rude about the company, muttering under her breath and walked out of a huge queue. I only wanted to order a bra. Lady in front wanted some black trousers. Neither in stock. We both couldn't believe she walked out in a queue of 10 people.

Hubby in boots yesterday ordering photos in his lunchtime and had problems with the machines not working. The staff there apologised re their machines.

Feeling im getting the shops arent as good as they used to be when i was younger. Is that a sign of being old (late 30s)

Nicknacky · 25/09/2014 20:22

I had a terrible member of staff in boots. I was almost 9 months pregnant and went in to collect a Christmas present that I had ordered to store. After I waited ages to be served the girl went away and came back and said "it's not here". When I pointed out I had texts and emails to say it was she shrugged and told me to go home and phone to find out where it was.

I might have quite loudly suggested she phone for me as it wasn't my fault and she did with a face like fizz which went redder and redder when the person at the end of the phone told her to double check.

She did so and came back with my box to which I said "just as well I didn't go home and phone". She was pretty rude and I probably wasn't as nice as I can be.

I walked to another till and spoke to a manager and made it clear that I had been quite nippy but I stated how good the staff usually was . She said she would speak to her and I got £10 of boots points.

I was fuming. No customer service, no going that extra mile (or indeed, just doing the minimum!!) I say that as someone who previously worked in retail for 10 years.

mineofuselessinformation · 25/09/2014 20:27

Don't apologise. The only reason she came after you was that she thought she was getting away with her shoddy service, but realised when you walked away she may well be in the shit.

Nicknacky · 25/09/2014 20:29

Forgot to say, don't apologise!!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/09/2014 20:32

Go back and apologise, with the greatest respect do you need your bumps feeling. Apologise for what exactly not putting up with down right rude customer service.
Y.Y to mine

Don't you dare go back and apologise!

This sort of thing drives me mad! I hate the poor communication you get from shop assistants in some places.

bananaleaf · 25/09/2014 20:47

Gawd don't apologise. There's a department store local to me where the customer service is terrible but it's convenient so they have a captive audience (including me). The staff seem to be oblivious to customers. They carry on personal conversations between themselves as though you are not there, barge down the aisles forcing you out of the way instead of politely letting you past. Once had a purchase processed where they didn't even register that I was there, just carried on their conversation hardly drawing breath! I was too shocked even to comment! I keep meaning to write to the general manager Grin

ElephantsNeverForgive · 25/09/2014 20:54

Boots have been wasting me and my doctors time and my petrol making a meal out of sorting out a prescription for DD.

Even when the doctor prescribed something easier to get they still took 15 minutes to put 2 packets of pills in a bag, when they had had the prescription several hours, if not the day before.

LineRunner · 25/09/2014 20:57

Bananaleaf, not Asda by any chance?

bananaleaf · 25/09/2014 21:01

Ah no it's like a Denhenhams type place but independent stand alone store in the high st

Eminybob · 25/09/2014 21:02

The staff in my local boots are rude, inept and lazy.
One of them told my colleague to fuck off when he made a complaint! Seriously.
There is one woman on the photo desk who goes out of her way to avoid serving anyone. I have boycotted them.

I did have a set-to with a sales assistant in matalan the other day too, when she got really arsey with me because I said I didn't have time to fill in a form for a loyalty card. She had a proper strop so I had to call her on it.

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 25/09/2014 21:19

Boots staff in Rochdale give the impression they are doing you a favour serving you. There is seldom more than one person on the check outs and then they stroll off to check/get something for a customer, leaving the queue to grow.so bloody frustrating.

Honeezreturn · 25/09/2014 21:39

The pharmacist in our local Boots told me off for getting too close to the counter Grin
I was waiting for my change after paying the shop assistant for my prescription. What did she want me to do, wait outside?!
I explained I was waiting for my change and she said there was confidential stuff under the counter,
It's not as if I was sitting on it FFS

PrimalLass · 25/09/2014 21:45

I had a problem with a manager in Boots. I had bought three identical remote control cars. One was for DS's birthday. It stopped working after an hour so I told him it was ok because I had another one. Opened car 2 and it didn't work either. So I took all three back with DS.

But I forgot my Advantage Card.

Bitch manager refused to refund me, despite two non-working cars, because it meant I would be able to keep the Boots points. I kicked up stink and she eventually agreed to call head office, who deleted my points.

Cowbag.

NK5BM3 · 25/09/2014 21:49

When ds was v ill and needed specialised prescription and we were under the care of great ormond st, I rang Sainsburys and boots to ask if they would supply the drug.

Boots never got back to me at all and were downright dismissive. Sainsburys rang back and were v supportive for an entire year. With weekly prescriptions and lots of advice.

whitebits · 25/09/2014 22:12

Don't go back and apologise....and I would even go as far as calling them to make a formal complaint. I worked in Boots a couple of years ago over Xmas and whilst it could be a bit stressful dealing with grumpy folk stuck in the Xmas queues that's just retail I'm afraid.

I was left open mouthed at some of the managers though and how they handled situations. One customer brought back a load of No7 stuff, all unopened and with her receipts. Her daughter had bought it and she explained that her daughter had only wanted one or two things but felt kind of bulldozed by the sales assitant into buying various other things. Also she was in her early 20's but had been sold a load of the skincare for older skin. The manager just stood there and said "well why didn't she tell the consultant that ?" The customer looked at me as though to say "Is she for fucking real ?"

In there defence I did see and hear a lot of rude and cheeky customers but that's still no excuse. I think maybe that's rubbing off on some of the staff and now they're treating everyone the same way. Treat folk the way you want to be treated I say.....

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 25/09/2014 22:35

All the Boots branches near me are a shambles. I've walked out mid queue and left my shopping several times because it takes sooooo long.

I've given up now and use local chemist/Superdrug/supermarket. Annoying because I like the advantage card points.
