To think babies are not 'seasonal'

Just in Sainsburys in the Seasonal aisle today we have the first of the Christmas stock and formula and baby equipment.
Now there maybe more babies at certain times of the year, but humans are not seasonal breeders.

The time of year that your dc is born affects what your early newborn phase is like - winter you're all snug and warm, babies first Christmas, you'll get a reindeer /elf/ Santa outfit and stay in etc, summer you can be more out and about, lazy sunny days etc so the seasons affect our newborn experience and so our purchasing choices - these sorts of things are more for the parents and if they like it why not?

"He's a fool that marries at yule, because when the corn's to shear, the bairn's to bear"

this very old saying kind of explains why people used to get married in spring - they'd be heavily pregnant during the winter months, and baby would be six months old or so by next harvest time so could be left with grandma for a few hours and they could pull their weight with the highly important harvest thing (every hand counted).

ds1 is Sept 12th and ds2 was due Sept 9th (but had to be born in Aug due to placenta preavia). When i told mum i was due with ds2 she immediately said 'you must only do it at xmas'.

Nine months after power outages in the States, mini baby booms often take place. There's not much else to do without television.
