To think babies are not 'seasonal'

Just in Sainsburys in the Seasonal aisle today we have the first of the Christmas stock and formula and baby equipment.
Now there maybe more babies at certain times of the year, but humans are not seasonal breeders.

Yeah fucking loads of October babies yet not enough baby vampire outfits.

Ffs Sainsbury's. Have a word.

Teacher here- a pregnant teacher, planned so baby born in sept or October (I am due mid October), my first child was born in September- also planned that way. (Used the clear blue ovulation monitor) We did get very lucky twice. Lots of teacher friends have tried/achieved the same. It means we can work until the summer holidays start in July then either begin maternity leave in September or just do a couple of weeks of the new term and then go back to work in June/July and only work a short time until the Sumer holidays again- back in pay for the holidays.
So teachers may account for some of the high birth rate in autumn!

Bloody eeeew acider... you hero!

My family mustn't be christmas shaggers - I can't think of even 1 family member with a birthday this month.

We're mostly all July and August born. I'm actually ttc at the moment and with 3 dc already summer babies and all 3 birthdays within 20 days, the thought has crossed my mind to give Novembers fertile time a miss but I'm not going to - the rest of the family will kill me if I add another to August but tough titty :)

unpackyoursuitcase · 22/09/2014 21:12

My sister my dad's, my mum's and mine are all this month and my dd on 1st oct... Also, my sil and bil and dn (same fam) all this month !!

MiniTheMinx · 22/09/2014 21:14

Of course babies are seasonal, well mine were, both were Christmas babies Grin

Evolutionary speaking, sex drives aimed to produce spring babies to avoid a harsh winter living in a cave with little food and a newborn. Clothing, housing and heating has altered that.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 22/09/2014 21:33

Interesting. I only know one person with a September birthday. I know about 8 with an April birthday, including myself, DM, SIL, and oldest niece. DF was December, DD is February, DW is Midsummer.

ithoughtofitfirst · 23/09/2014 12:46

I'm due mid October. Nobody born around this time yet (May is our bonkers month) so i can't wait to see what a little Libra or Scorpio baby is like Hmm if you believe in that stuff

VivaLeBeaver · 23/09/2014 12:47

Yup. I'm a midwife, babies are definitely seasonal.

BumpNGrind · 23/09/2014 12:53

My baby is due in two weeks, on my gm's birthday. Eerrgghhh I have the same sex patterns as my great grandparents!!!

minipie · 23/09/2014 12:59

How does this tie in with the whole "it takes an average of 6 months to get pregnant" statistic? If that was the case then all these christmas/new year shaggers would be having spring babies.

Or perhaps the average 6 months is made up of lots of people who get upduffed the first month plus a smaller group who take ages...

QueenTilly · 23/09/2014 13:28

Plus a load of people in the middle who took 4-8 months.

ithoughtofitfirst · 23/09/2014 13:47

Yeah i think ours was a post crimbo bonk

QuintessentiallyQS · 23/09/2014 13:48

Dont worry, Ocado has a baby sale.

Wonder if this is the answer to my broodiness?

Cardriver · 23/09/2014 13:50

DD1 and I have both had our birthdays in the last 10 days Grin

youmakemydreams · 23/09/2014 14:17

Do was a long winter nights baby, it's her birthday next week. Ds1 was a 2 week summer holiday baby and ds2 a cousins wedding night baby.

I however am the present that keeps on giving as I am the result of my dad's 30th birthday present from my mum.

CatThiefKeith · 23/09/2014 20:28

Weirdly, all of my family, and dh's, are either March or December, with the exception of dd.

Mil and dm are a day apart, dh and dsis same day, my niece and his same day. It's a very expensive month, March. Sad

Lally112 · 23/09/2014 20:32

some are. I only ever get pregnant in winter and have babies in summer - I have 4 but had 6 pregnancies and all were conceived in November.

NoodleOodle · 23/09/2014 20:37

I conceived mid Feb, funny that. Lol

madamginger · 23/09/2014 20:38

I have 1 sept born and 2 October born DC, my mum is October too and my sister is pregnant with her 1st and due in 4 weeks. Busy month October!

BlackeyedSusan · 23/09/2014 21:19

don't know what was going on in our area nine years ago, but in ten -11 months time half of dd's class turn nine during july and august.

slithytove · 23/09/2014 22:51

Gave birth on thurs Grin

SanityClause · 23/09/2014 22:55

I have a brother and sister with the same birthday, five years apart. The date is suspiciously close to nine months after my parents' wedding anniversary. Wink
