Went into lloyds bank this morning and as per usual there was a long que (8 people in front of me) and only 2 cashiers open. I needed to go to the counter, no other way of doing transaction.
Anyway, a woman staff member is standing at the end of the que accosting everyone who joins it asking "what are you in the bank for today" most people tell her they need to go to the counter, one Man goes off with her to have 'help' to use the paying in machine Hmm but the majority tell her they need to see a cashier, but still she pesters, "yes but what are you going to do? Can I help" she just went on and on,
So she asks me, I tell her if she wants to be helpful she can go and open another till as everytime I go in there's always a que and only 2 or 3 windows open.
She says 'oh I can't do that,it's not my job anymore'
Boils my piss, what a waste of time standing there all day when she could be doing something more useful,

Disclaimer: I was in a miserable mood before I reached the bank due to 2 chuggers in the precinct trying to get me to part with my money Angry

agapanthers the reason I had to go to the counter is I had to withdraw £1500 for the builders last payment, and I wasn't going to tell her that because with all those people around I didn't want them all to know I was about to have £1500 in my handbag. I guess I could have whispered in her ear Hmm

I just will not discuss my business in a queue, banking is meant to be private. I'd sooner wait an extra 10 minutes, and if it's very private I ask to go to a room to discuss it.

Calmly and assertively stating that your needs are best served at the counter is one thing. Coming on here and belittling her is something else.

Itsfab · 19/09/2014 20:04

WiseGys you get a receipt when you pay in at the ATM.

Haven't had any experience with banks but I get this everytime I ring the doctors to get an appointment.

Receptionist: "Is it an emergency?"

I'm never quite sure how to answer because to me, an emergency would require a visit to A&E. Or someone ran out of medication. I usually mumble something along the lines of "Umm no but I can't get in on another day so would like to be seen today"

Yabu. I work in a bank & we are under a huge amount of pressure to get customers to use the machines rather than go to the counter. Yes it's cost saving for the bank & we've had 5 staff leave in the last 12 months - none of them being replaced. It's not the staffs fault, they are only doing their job & if they don't they face performance management.

ilovesooty · 19/09/2014 20:36

flash that's what I suspected. Sorry to hear it though. It must be very difficult.

Honeezreturn · 19/09/2014 20:52

I'm sorry flash, it's not atall nice when people are 'let go' Iv had a few near misses
I just wish this bank lady would know where to stop, surely common sense tells you that when somebody says no Thankyou once, let alone twice, it's time to stop harassing
And as for coming on hear belittling her as somebody said, isn't that what 99% of people do on AIBU??

I just tell them firmly that I'm not going to discuss my business in a queue. That shuts them up.
