To think Andy Murray was silly to wade in to the debate….

His Mum is SOOOO not going to win Strictly!

Also, he had no gain. He can't vote so why say anything? Just seems foolish.

Does

mrsruffallo · 19/09/2014 00:00

That does mean he doesnt have an opinion?? Sorry, what?

Serenitysutton · 19/09/2014 00:05

That's interesting Nancy. Fair enough I guess, being talented at sport doesn't make one talented at public life.

WorriedMutha · 19/09/2014 00:06

At first I felt disappointment with Andy but I'm a massive tennis fan and like him. I would hate it to backfire on him and mean that he can't speak his mind for fear of trolls. But then again, you have to be a bit cynical about timing. He could have had the courage to speak up before and not just wait until the tide was turning in favour of the aye campaign.
Sadly the reality is that it won't play well on Murray Mount next year and the press will give him a hard time.

Tolerance and acceptance has not made Britain great at all. Tolerance has weakened Britain by accepting mass immigration and weakening the values of the UK.

Tolerance equals weakness. Anybody can move to this country. Try moving to Canada, Australia, NZ or USA - not possible without skills and going through a rigorous progress and investigation. ANYONE in the EU can move here WITHOUT rigorous investigation. This tolerance has led to where we are now.

Tinker I agree. I have Scottish friends living in England who have expressed their feelings on fb and Twitter. They care but have no vote.

Are people going to boycott anything with Sean Connery in?

HaveYouTriedARewardChart · 19/09/2014 00:08

I disagree with him and I was really disappointed to see his statement as I really rate him but he has every right to voice his opinion, when he wants. Probably didn't want the heatthat JKR got.

It would be very sad if the Wimbledon crowd did feel it was anti English or that they couldn't support someone from Scotland in the event of a split.

From my perspective as an expat in London most English people I know are taking a disinterested interest and feelings are not going to be hurt!

Bellebelle · 19/09/2014 00:08

Claig very well put. It's very unfortunate that the Yes vote is so often interpreted as anti-English, it's a complete misunderstanding of the decision Scotland is making.

HauntedNoddyCar · 19/09/2014 00:09

Oh vagabond that's just daft. Only in recent years have they got picky.

Bending is strength Tolerance is strength

Tinkerball · 19/09/2014 00:10

I mistyped does in my message Nancy, it says dies.

nancy75 · 19/09/2014 00:11

Tinkerball - it wasn't me questioning that it was another poster :)

Tinkerball · 19/09/2014 00:12

Sorry Nancy, I'm getting tired!

Vagabond · 19/09/2014 00:13

Ok, Haunted. Cute quote. Meaningful in personal relationships though….I shall bear that in mind! ;-)

Britain is too tolerant though. I firmly believe that and your lovely, fluffy quote won't change that {strokes puppy}

:) no worries - you better have a strong coffee or 2 if you are staying up to see the outcome - it's going to be a long night!

HauntedNoddyCar · 19/09/2014 00:15

Quote?

Primafacie · 19/09/2014 00:16

YABU and your last comment has very unpleasant undertones.

Vagabond · 19/09/2014 00:19

Quote: "bending is strength, tolerance is strength." (dude, you just wrote it!)

I would love to, but I'm heading off to bed, got work in the morning although I doubt I will be getting much sleep ! Yes it will be a long night. Goodnight Smile

HauntedNoddyCar · 19/09/2014 00:23

I thought you were inferring I was quoting someone!

nancy75 · 19/09/2014 00:23

I'm surprised they didn't give everyone in Scotland the day off tomorrow - which ever way the vote goes about half the country is going to want to get drunk and celebrate (the other half may want to get drunk and drown their sorrows)
:) Goodnight and good luck for tomorrow :)

GatoradeMeBitch · 19/09/2014 00:23

This whole thing has exposed alarmingly thin skin on our end of the British Isles. It's very embarrassing actually...

rootypig · 19/09/2014 02:45

Nancy the fact that Andy Murray is a nice guy is perfectly obvious to many sane people.

As is the fact that he is a grown man who is perfectly capable of making his own choices, no patronising commentary required. So far he's doing a damn sight better professionally than any of us!

rootypig · 19/09/2014 02:45

Sorry, meant to add a round of applause for Claig Smile

ApocalypseThen · 19/09/2014 06:41

In summary, we'll ruin his career for expressing an opinion.

Why oh why don't they love us?

Nancy- I am astounded at how difficult so many people cannot seem to understand that whole independence issue (and debate) isn't just "pro-England vs Anti-England". Genuinely, it really isn't about being for or against the English.

It's because this is how the English media skew every single issue involving any country in the world - how much do they love or hate England? It's like the daily mail and cancer. They don't seem able to engage with world affairs from any other perspective.

eyebags63 · 19/09/2014 07:28

Murray seems to have a personality which splits people's opinions on anything he does or says. This is just another excuse for the 'haters' to get on his back.

Of course he is allowed to voice his opinion. Are we seriously suggesting it is now acceptable for people to berate him and stop supporting him because he voiced an opinion either way on a major life changing vote?

Ridiculous, we live in a democracy with freedom of speech. He should have have to keep quiet "or else..."
