To think changing a dirty nappy on a train is NOT ok?

I was on the train yesterday at around school pick up time, so it was quite busy.

Two women got on with their children, a few school age who ran riot the whole journey, running from seat to seat playing catch or something, disturbing other passengers and riding scooters down the aisles while their mums just chattered with eachother.

That was annoying. But then one of the women decided to change her toddlers nappy on the seats in the next 'seat section' away from me iyswim. It STANK. Lots of people moved away in disgust but she didn't seem aware. There are seats on the train which to be fair are probably grim but they got off the next stop!

AIBU to think she should have waited? Or is changing shitty nappies on public transport a thing?

Unrelated to the actual AIBU but all you posters changing nappies on laps - for crying out loud, HOW? Do you all have abnormally large knees or some sort of patented trouser harness? Do you have incredibly sensible and placid babies who accept that it's nappy change time? Every time there's a nappy change thread, loads of people declare you should just do it on your lap, and I can only boggle at the poo wrestling that would surely ensue.

Phalarope Grin I've always thought the same. Similarly for standing up changes. Can imagine it for a wet nappy only but could be messy for a pooey one

catkind · 18/09/2014 17:23

Gosh I'd much rather they changed it than didn't change it. Pooey nappies stink whether on or off. I wouldn't leave a kid sitting in poo even if it is only 5 minutes if it could be avoided. And the longer they're not changed the more likely it leaks and toddler is left with pooey trousers all the way home.

SoonToBeSix · 18/09/2014 23:59

Yabu would you rather a toddler sat in their own poo.

Bakeoffcakes · 19/09/2014 00:13

YABU it wouldn't bother me at all.

It's shit, we all produce it.

It would smell if she'd left the nappy on the baby anyway- so I don't see why it matters if she changed it.

I agree with the lap change thing. Maybe with my first, when she was newborn and I went back to being scrawney and thin. And standing up? After years of teaching them to lay still and not wiggle or roll, they are suddenly going to cooperate with this concept?

She should have gone to the toilet, and the kids running riot should have had the riot act read to them!
