To have my own bedroom

Was going to namechange then thought fuckit. I have my own beðroom as does himself. I like privacy, I'm a light sleeper, we keep different hours and it just makes sense. It makes no difference to intimacy etc and a huge difference to the amount of sleep/his life expectancy. We both have en suites so have no need to disturb each other at all if needs be.

To be honest I find the idea of having to share a room a bit odd and outdated. If it works for you then great but so many people are miserable and not getting any sleep and view it as a failure of the relationship in some way to sleep separately.

Anyway, I have had two conversations about this recently (it came up as I'm pregnant, will be breastfeeeding) and was looked at pityingly, as if relationship is on death row and I'm in denial. I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out in anything nor do I feel it means a relationship is in trouble. To one friend it was "unthinkable". It also came up that she thought it was a 'bad example' for children to see their parents sleep separately?? I would never share a room again tbh bad example or no.

Anybody else out there have their own rooms or Is it unreasonable?

We regularly sleep apart.

If I'm busy harvesting late summer / early autumn or lambing in the spring and, in and out at all hours DW evicts me.

When DC's were waking in the night a lot and she was on mat leave, she did all the night feeds so again, I evicted myself and took off to another room so that I could function in the day.

I have heard of Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton's arrangement and I love it..... hmmm wonder if we could divide up our house...

I would absolutely love my own room! I keep threatening "Bert and Ernie beds" anyway as DP's so horrible to sleep next to! Grin

I'm 5' 4'', he's 6' 2'' and a bed hogger, we also share the bed with the dog and on the mornings that his alarm goes off at 5.15am, he has a shower, turns the big light on and starts blasting the hairdryer when I don't need to be up until 7.30am!

PIL have separate rooms but MIL isn't in good health and sleeps a lot during the day, then is up and padding around during the night. They get on absolutely fine.

Me and my husband have our own bedroom.

I love it!

He snores like mad and I don't sleep well.

I love having my own room.

My friend and her DH have had separate bedrooms for over 20 years. She highly recommends it. I must admit I do eye up the spare room sometimes...

separate rooms here Grin
no complaints

Another vote for separate rooms. in fact, when I grow up I would like separate en suites as well (lottery win?)
It is blissfully blissful and I am SURE has helped us to stay married for 26 years.
He snores, is messy, goes to bed at 2am and sleeps in an icebox
I snuffle delicately (!), like flowers and candles and cushions, go to bed at 10 and like to be cosy.

When the children were tiny they slept in with me. Now I have a Yorkshire terrier to keep my toes warm.
We do have a bedtime routine of cuddles (etc) Grin and chat and a cup of tea together, but as far as actual sleeping is concerned, I want to be alone :)

You lucky lucky thing. My dream is separate bedrooms. I would still share with the cats though! waiting a lottery win Am fed up with the constant broken sleep due to his snoring.

DP and I are in seperate rooms, mainly because i have DS in with me who is 5 months and stil bf's through the night. DP also comes to bed much later than me and snores, were as I'm a light sleeper.

We're talking about moving DS into his own room soon, and I'm going to miss my bed, although given I have to be up at 5am, I often sleep in the spare bedroom so I can get a full nights sleep.
