To really HATE the idea of National Stockings Day - even if it is for a good cause

I've just been sent a press release about it. Here's an extract

"To celebrate National Stockings Day, Charnos Hosiery will once again be encouraging women to ditch the convenience of tights in favour of stockings for a day and support Breast Cancer Care. This year’s theme is ‘The only way is stockings’ – encouraging women to wear their stockings/ hold ups following the example of this year’s stocking ambassador, the star of hit ITV2 show The Only Way is Essex, Lydia Bright.

“I’m so excited to be a part of this year’s National Stockings Day, Breast Cancer Care is a wonderful charity and I love that Charnos are trying to raise awareness of the cause. Every girl instantly feels sexier when they slip into a pair of stockings and I just love Charnos’ classic and stylish hosiery,” says Lydia.

heh

'Any fucker' it's a pleasure to speak to such an eloquently mannered female, who quite clearly is the epitome of female elegance.
Unfortunately I don't pole dance around my living room, nor do I release my inner goddess with a bit of burlesque (well maybe on a Saturday after a few) I'm just not constrained by female stereotypes and embrace any opportunity for a bit of pro-women press, oh and of course raising money for charity is always a plus, no?

AnyFucker · 16/09/2014 22:23

You courted the controversy seashell Wink

tethersend · 16/09/2014 22:28

Great idea. I'm ready to go.

Ladies, it is most disheartening to read these catty comments amongst yourselves, the brand are clearly just trying to raise awareness of the charity whilst having a bit of fun! I don't see the need for this up roar however, as they say "any publicity is good publicity" so you've all helped the brand tremendously already! Perhaps if you ladies did don a pair of stockings, just for a day, you might be doing something a tad more exiting at 10.30pm rather than posting on forums! miaow!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 16/09/2014 22:45

Jasper - you seem to have proved the point most of these 'catty' posters are making!

seashell25 · 16/09/2014 22:47

Well said Jasper2014, get your stockings on and your claws away you kinky betches!!

AlpacaLypse · 16/09/2014 22:49

I think this campaign stinks to high heaven of a corporate charity tie-in and I'm going to stick to my normal policy of supporting what I believe in and ignoring twaddle on facebook commercially promoted stuff.

Nancy66 · 16/09/2014 22:53

my objection is that it's absolutely fuck all to do with raising awareness of breast cancer.
This is the picture that accompanied the mail out. You honestly think the first thought of those commuters, upon seeing models in their underwear at a train station, was: 'oh I must donate to charity?'

Gosh you're up terribly late Jasper. Do the agency pay you over time or do you just really luuurve you account?

Proper lol'd at Tethers though Grin

holdyourown · 16/09/2014 23:01

Grin anti thrush charity

That publicity photo is shocking and appalling. Jumping on the bandwagon with a bit of page 3 style sexism thrown in. I for one will be going out of my way not to buy that brand of tights/stockings

PetulaGordino · 16/09/2014 23:08

Totally agree with the objections here. A cynical marketing ploy that includes a nice little side order of objectification of women

What is liberating about wearing stockings anyway?

PetulaGordino · 16/09/2014 23:09

Lol at jasper and seashell doing their bit to promote the idea

PetulaGordino · 16/09/2014 23:11

I am laughing at knockers for knockers and boobies for boobies

Also thrush awareness raising "a breath of fresh air for thrush awareness"

AlpacaLypse · 16/09/2014 23:16

That photo looks like a St Trinian's still.

Nevertheless a load of crap.

So many better ways of raising cash and awareness than this.

whiskeytangofoxtrot · 16/09/2014 23:18

ROFL petula at thrush awareness.

I got (and promptly deleted) this press release too today.
I was incredulous and then noted with a snort to myself that the PR who sent it can't even name the product correctly on the release.

The pic posted above was captioned "girls ‘working those hold ups’ for National Stockings Day 2013"

Erm; are they stockings or hold ups? Two different products, non?
