To really HATE the idea of National Stockings Day - even if it is for a good cause

I've just been sent a press release about it. Here's an extract

"To celebrate National Stockings Day, Charnos Hosiery will once again be encouraging women to ditch the convenience of tights in favour of stockings for a day and support Breast Cancer Care. This year’s theme is ‘The only way is stockings’ – encouraging women to wear their stockings/ hold ups following the example of this year’s stocking ambassador, the star of hit ITV2 show The Only Way is Essex, Lydia Bright.

“I’m so excited to be a part of this year’s National Stockings Day, Breast Cancer Care is a wonderful charity and I love that Charnos are trying to raise awareness of the cause. Every girl instantly feels sexier when they slip into a pair of stockings and I just love Charnos’ classic and stylish hosiery,” says Lydia.

I wear stockings every single day. Wouldn't touch Charnos with a bargepole for theirs - M&S all the way! Have never felt the need to advertise it nor give people a flash of them. Perhaps we should do that? 50p per leg (for charity)... er, nope.

If I didn't read about these specific 'days' here, I would never know about them. Grin

ShadowStar

completely agree with you about saving the cost of tights and donating the money.
However, much prefer to wear hold ups to having the horrible smeggy tight feeling at the end of the day. I can't understand why women wear tights when there are so many alternatives, eww.

AntiDistinctlyMinty · 16/09/2014 17:29

Personally morethan I wear them because the plasticy hold-up bit of hold-ups irritates my skin...

KatieKaye · 16/09/2014 17:36

Ghastly idea. Everything to do with marketing and very little to do with raising awareness. What happened to the pink ribbons?

morethanpotatoprints · 16/09/2014 17:39

Anti

I can't bare the things and find them so unhygienic Grin

batgirl1984 · 16/09/2014 17:43

But does anyone's choice of hosiery correlate with their charitable giving?

Sp1rals · 16/09/2014 17:44

Utterly ridiculous. Let's just be done with it and have an empowering flash your fanny for starving children day.

Laymizzrarb · 16/09/2014 17:47

Yuk. At the end of the day, the company is doing this to raise brand awareness and sell more stockings. And they will get tax relief on the donation they eventually give.
I refuse to buy products who donate 5p or 10p for every toilet roll/cake/deodorant sold just because they have a little pink ribbon on them. Making money on the back of people's suffering and fears is a bit too much. I prefer to give money directly to cancer charities rather than watch the huge companies get self congratulatory and 'aren't we good' praise whilst they keep quiet about the increased sales.

Knockers for knockers - post a selfie of you standing in front of your front door.

AnyFucker · 16/09/2014 17:52

I hooted at that, Hooble Grin

And for keen ornithologists we could have boobies for boobies.

There are bloody oodles of dozy wimmin fooled by this stuff, unfortunately.

Laquitar · 16/09/2014 18:13

Exactly what JustTheRightBullets said.

Marshy · 16/09/2014 18:14

I just don't get the link between stockings and breast cancer. It's utterly crass, and disappointing that Breast Cancer Care are involved with this.

I'm soooo disappointed - I thought this was going to be about Christmas stockings. Oh dear.

Stockings day...

We just get those rubber pink cause bracelets and T-shirts over here in the US. We also do marathons.

iK8 · 16/09/2014 18:43

If it was in support of an anti thrush charity they might have a point.

But they don't and they're just cynical bastards.

seashell25 · 16/09/2014 21:57

Hate to be controversial (infact I don't) but I think it's liberating and a bit of fun! Anything that raises money for Breast Cancer Care and celebrates the female body should surely be celebrated, and maybe even encouraged!

AnyFucker · 16/09/2014 22:08

Seashell, do you enjoy pole dancing in your living room and indulge your inner goddess with a bit of burlesque, by any chance ?

I would put this bollocks in the same category of "Empowering for women ? Don't make me fucking laugh"

iK8 · 16/09/2014 22:13

Aw lay off AnyFucker. Poor seashell might have to wear stockings for medical reasons.
