I am finding that it is becoming more acceptable to use cocaine socially.

Friends and people that I know take it at weekends, at parties, bars or clubs and sometimes on a night in with friends and a bottle of wine.

These people are teachers, sahms, childcare workers, administrators, financial advisors and social workers so a real mix.

Is it becoming more socially acceptable? Would you have a problem if your friend did it occasionally?

I've never tried coke... At a certain point in my 20s I drew myself a line (pardon the pun) that I would only use the ones that you take pretty much as they grow out of the ground - weed and mushrooms basically - because knowing the enthusiasm with which I took to those, I didn't trust myself with the harder stuff. Coke was verrry popular in my circle of friends though.

I agree in some scenes it's totally socially acceptable and I knew loads of people who went for it on the weekend and led perfectly responsible lives all week.

I would never judge anyone for taking it the way some people on this thread do but I can assure you that come 4am people on coke are nowhere near as fun, interesting or coherent as they think they are. They also weren't much fun to party with if you weren't taking part because you'd suddenly look around and realise they'd all fucked off to the bathroom for a bump and left you alone.

In my 40's, live in london and yes i agree it seems to be very socially acceptable and pretty widespread across people I mix with who are all professional working people with families.

One of my mates was a PE teacher and he always used to have a little line before taking the kids to an away game - never caused him any issues and the kids and parents all thought he was a good laugh. Pretty harmless I'd say.

Oh please. I don't hang out in those sort of circles any more, socially or for work, however I have been in plenty of environments/social circles where coke use was prevalent. It has a horrible impact on consumers and producers alike, and it's no fun for bystanders either. A horrible substance. And I'm sure that someone who knows the above PE teacher well would have a different opinion of his relation with perico.

Personally I recommend the OP looks for new social circles (in fact that's what I did many years ago).

Unfortunately true.

The problem with cocaine is that you can overdose on an amount that you'd previously taken OK as it fucks your brain.

GracielaSabrocita · 24/11/2017 19:06

That's one of the many problems.

happypoobum · 24/11/2017 19:42

I used to have a Dp who was a cokehead. Biggest bore imaginable once he had taken it. As soon as I realised I was off. Who would want their DC around a drug user?

I can't see the attraction and I don't know anyone now who takes it. If I did I would think they were a total Loser.

LightDrizzle · 24/11/2017 19:53

When you buy any illegal drug you are buying into a chain that includes murder, use of vulnerable people as drug mules, extortion, gangs, organised crime and the rest.
What really pisses me off is the hypocrisy of trendy types who eschew “sweatshop” clothes, buy Fairtrade, regard processed food as poison (not keen myself for what it’s worth), subscribe to a more equal fair society but then take recreational drugs because it’s fun and cool.
Fuck off, fuck off, fuck off, fuck off you self-absorbed wankers.

Same as anything really, if you have to rely on it for a good time then it's an issue.

Also if it funds crime, creates poverty, is mixed with bloody concrete, then yes I have an issue with it.

You can grow your own with weed so not a huge deal to me if you're doing that and it 'is' for sole use (many do this, they just don't farm it like idiots). Not a fan personally though.
