to think £348 is ridiculously expensive for a highstreet handbag?

I was just looking on the All Saints website, see a beautiful bag and then I see the price tag £348! For a bag off the high street that seems ridiculously expensive to me.

I would definitely pay (and more) that for Chloé/McQueen/Chanel etc

Aibu to think that price is ridiculous?

(Just to point out I do not own a closet full of designer handbags Grin)

Perhaps it has £300 in notes in the inside zippy pocket!?

Darkesteyes · 09/09/2014 23:04

I have a really gorgeous fake snakeskin handbag which i get compliments on.

£12 from Yours two and a half years ago but its barely been used so looks like new.

The lining inside is papery though so they have scrimped there to make the outside of the bag look nice.

GaryShitpeas · 09/09/2014 23:11

We need a link to judge!

I love handbags and have paid more than that in the past for designer ones (balenciaga, Chloe, and Louis Vuitton) but does seem steep for an all saints bag

Grin at wally. I bought a Marc by Marc Jacobs for around that amount three years ago. I love it still so much and its perfect for everything. It was a real treat to myself at the time. I remember when I went to Selfridges to try and buy the one I chose online I first found the Marc Jacobs stand. I asked the man there where the Marc by Marc Jacobs bags were and he gave a dismissive swipe of his hand and went "in the high street section down there" I was Shock!

musicalendorphins2 · 10/09/2014 06:03

Don't ask me, I have no taste, nor 1,000.00's of dollars for designer bags.

mysteryfairy · 10/09/2014 06:15

I think that is a lot for an All Saints bag.

I like All Saints a lot but I think their prices are absolutely ludicrous given the quality of their items. I never buy anything outside of sale time (preferably second round of reductions). I'm amazed that anyone does.

MrsBigginsPieShop · 10/09/2014 06:41

Was just going to comment about MK bags but seen someone already has.
I love my Selma bag by MK and that was less than £348.
If I had money to spare I'd definitely use it to start a Mulberry fund, rather than buy a bag from somewhere like All Saints

Eauneau · 10/09/2014 08:46

I assume the bag is black, grey or shitty sludge colour, as they are the only colours Allsaints seem to do!

Ch1a I also have a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and I LOVE it!

Am I the only person who thinks £348 is too much for a handbag, full stop?

Nope. For that much it would have to carry itself.

Mattiesmam · 10/09/2014 09:06

Check out Laga Handbags - truly gorgeous bags and hand made by survivors of the Tsunami which killed so many

Littledidsheknow · 10/09/2014 09:20

Dertie I think 50 quid is too much.

Me too, Cant. My most expensive bag cost £32. It was leather, from Tesco. I got compliments on it, but my daughter purloined it. I don't 'do' leather anymore as I am vegetarian, and my most recent bag cost £5 from everythingfivepounds.com

£348 is more than my clothes and accessory budget for the year!

GlaceCherries · 10/09/2014 09:22

I like the black, grey sludge All Saints colours (pretty much most of my wardrobe Grin ) but I wouldn't pay that price for one of their handbags.

Have bought a few designer bags back in the day when I was still working (currently SAHM), but I would find it hard now to justify spending our income on ridiculously expensive accessories.

Where do people get pre-owned bags from? Nohanks18? Valrhona? I'm assuming they're slightly cheaper than new? I also have some that I would be interested to sell on. Thx.

pictish · 10/09/2014 09:25

Yes it's a lot for a High Street bag imo.

GaryShitpeas · 10/09/2014 13:42

Glacécherries

Preloved is great for second hand designer bags

eBay is rife with fakes

GaryShitpeas · 10/09/2014 13:46

And what bags have you got to sell on? Blush

ApprenticeViper · 10/09/2014 13:51

Value is all in the eye of the beholder (God I sound like my mother!). 348 is a very lot of money, but if you can afford it and justify it to yourself, then go for it.

If you normally spend 35 on a handbag, use it daily and it lasts a year, then if you get 10 years of daily use out of the All Saints one, then to my mind it's worth it.

FWIW, I love love love All Saints stuff but it's horribly overpriced Sad.

taxi4ballet · 10/09/2014 14:29

A handbag? How much? Oh well, it's a free country I suppose...

I bought a nice leather one from a charity shop for £1 and it lasted about five years.

Strokethefurrywall · 10/09/2014 15:18

That definitely seems a lot for a high street handbag and whilst I really like All Saints stuff, it is ridiculously overpriced.

I do love my handbags and shoes though, my current bag is a beautiful electric blue marc jacobs slouch and it was my gift to myself on returning to work and not having to have a giant bag full of nappies to lug around all day.

I do love Mulberry but we don't get them over here so I have to covet them from afar until I'm next back in london.

Fluffy40 · 10/09/2014 15:37

Saw a nice bag in a shop yesterday. It was priced at £175.

It was worth about 40 quid tops.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 10/09/2014 15:49

I have hundreds of bags in all colours to match my outfits... never paid more than £15 Grin they all look nice, do the job and go with my clothes whenever I need them to. I have never really understood the need for handbag snobbery, paying £1000's of pounds for something to do the same job as my Primark special. Then again, I could not tell a good expensive bag from a cheap one anyway.

cheerears · 10/09/2014 16:23

Oh I think you can tell the difference when you look - especially if you have another bag right there at the side to compare with. I'm not in a position to spend hundreds on a bag but I can see why other people do.

I ordered a mulberry scarf as a present for someone - was 165 and was reduced to 50 in JL. I was thinking "yeah, no way is a scarf worth 165 or even 50, but it'll have a nice box and will make a nice gesture to that person". Oh was I wrong. When it arrived, I completely fell in love with it - beautiful, soft and just screamed luxury.

I think though, irregarless of whether it looks or feels expensive. there's a lot to be said for knowing you have this item of luxury and that you've earned, bought and paid for it.
