To keep DS off school one day during his first week at primary?

DS1 is starting school tomorrow - two weeks of half days before he goes full time!

However, I also work and accommodating all this faffing about is a total nightmare.

One day next week I just don't have anyone who can look after him for a half day and drop him at school etc. My only option is to drop the DC at my parents' house the night before, so they can stay there all day while I work.

AIBU to keep DS off school during his first week because childcare is too tricky otherwise?

The school my dcs attended had a very helpful attitude to this - they left it up to the parent to decide. So you could do a term (or more if under 5) of half days or you could start full time. 'Enforcing' half days should not be permitted imo given the constraints of working lives. It's absurd pressure on parents.

I agree OP - speak to the teacher and give her the options - can they take him all day or he will miss that day.

You know, it's not ideal but it's not the end of the world either. I would do it this time.

My only worry for you Hollie is there are a few half days scattered about here and there during the school year that could leave you in a pickle. Like in some schools the day they finish for Christmas break and so on.

It may be worth asking for a list of these (if they haven't given you one) so you can plan ahead.

I would see if a friend could help you out. It's only a one off. I know it can be hard to ask for this sort of thing (I really struggle) but it'd be worth it I think
