To ask are Marlboro Gold nicer than Silk Cut Silvers?

First up, I know smoking is bad for you. I don't smoke often. I have bought three packs of ten, and smoked three pouches of roll up tobacco this year. It is on nights out or very occassionally with a cup of coffee at the weekend. I really enjoy it, but feel no need to do it everyday.

It's about time for me to buy another pack of ten, and I wondered if I should try Marlboro lights (now marketed as gold, I think) instead of Silk Cut silvers? The silvers do feel a bit like smoking air if I have one after a roll up, but overall are fine.

Curious about Marlboro lights though!

Also, are Marlboro lights seen as chic and Silk Cut seen as unsophisticated? Or have I made that up?

Sorry, should read SCS/MG

I can't roll. Just cannot get the hang of it. I prefer them really, these days so it's a bit of an area.

I blame it being ambidextrous, the motor functions needed to roll confuse my brain Grin

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2014 15:29

Do they still sell rolling machines?

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/09/2014 15:30

I'll have to have a look next time I'm out stocking up. I know Swan used to do one but haven't noticed them for years.

It would make my DH so happy if he didn't have to make them for me anymore!

squoosh · 07/09/2014 15:32

Rolling always looked like way too much work for me. Seems to be quite fashionable these days though.

BreadForBrains · 07/09/2014 15:35

Marlboro lights for me. Always smoked them, everything else tastes funny.
Dp smokes rollies but hardly any. In ten years he's only smoked once a week or so.

ziggiestardust · 07/09/2014 15:35

I don't smoke but I really like the smell of it... I find it sort of comforting. Is that weird?!

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2014 15:38

Alisvolatpropiis, I've just had a quick Google and you can buy the Swan and Rizla machines online.

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/09/2014 15:42

Excellent! Thanks worra Smile

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/09/2014 16:01

Please at least consider trying ecigs instead Smile

Honestly, you'll never look back ... and when you consider what you can save ... !!!!

Always was a silk cut silver for me. marlboro were too much for. felt a bit too smelly after one.

PunkrockerGirl · 07/09/2014 16:53

I always smoked Malboro lights, silk cut never did it for me.

MargotLovedTom · 07/09/2014 16:59

Marlboro Lights are more the equivalent of Silk Cut Purple. My dad bought me two Oaks of Silk Cut Silver and wasted his money; they are fresh air. I'm still working my way through them (occasional smoker here too) and I often resort to lighting one up, having a few draws then putting it out and lighting it up again to try make it stronger. to

MargotLovedTom · 07/09/2014 17:00

Packs not Oaks!

auldspinster · 07/09/2014 17:05

Nor smoked for 8 years but favoured Marlboro reds or mediums. Could never get a hit off Silk Cut. Sometimes smoked Consulate, yuk!

BertieBotts · 07/09/2014 17:09

You can make silk cut silver taste stronger by blocking the pinholes in the side of the filter with a rizla (or any paper but rizla obv most practical) if you're stuck and they're all you have. My mum smokes them because she's been "giving up" for about 20 years.

I'll be an exception to whoever said they all end up smoking loads in the end. I'm not smoking at all at the moment. Don't want to start Ecigs, DH has, but I reckon I'd get hooked on the nicotine then because it's nicer. The main thing which stops me from smoking is that 90% of the time it isn't actually nice. It's that small percentage which are nice are worth it but it's definitely not worth it (to me) to smoke all the time.

I think Mboro gold are still pretty strong. They're not really what I think of as a "light" cigarette. I used to like B&H silver with the poncy packet.

Baaaaaaaaaaaa · 07/09/2014 18:04

Gee whiz, ciggies cost how much?

When I first started (a VERY long time ago) it was about 7p for 10 (still at school :( ) Over the years it crept up and I swore when they got to £1 a packet (of 20) that I'd give up. I eventually gave up when they reached £5 a packet (Embassy) 14 years ago - and never went back.

I don't understand how anyone can afford to smoke these days:(
