To think DP is being hugely unreasonable?

We do our weekly shop together, I managed to do the shopping separator game once before he got wise and now puts the separator thing on the belt before I can get to it, and if I do manage to get to it before he does he just turns it back the wrong right way :(

For those that aren't aware, the game goes like this-
Put your shopping on the belt and put the separator like this-> shopping -- shopping.
Instead of like this-> shopping | shopping
And watch the face(s) of the person/people behind you as they give you weird looks.

I should LTB shouldn't I?

I dont think it was started as a 'delay the next customer' prank at all. As far as i remember it was funny because people cant resist 'fixing' it. I.e: putting it back perfectly horizontally. It was a kind of itch that had to be scratched thing and not at all about being a dick.

Hoppinggreen · 04/09/2014 12:21

Next time I go I'm going to lie it flat to see what happens - total rebel me !

ArabellaTarantella · 04/09/2014 12:50

I play the game, too..........no other MNers where I live though (or shop in Asda Hmm)

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 04/09/2014 12:55

Someone said on here that a checkout assistant had said "I wish people would stop doing that!" must be a high volume MN area, maybe like The Wirrall or somewhere.

teenagetantrums · 04/09/2014 13:17

I work in asda and see a few people doing it, it makes me smile, it does not delay the other customers at all, they wont get their shopping through checkout at any different speed, they still have to wait for the person in front to pay and leave.

5Foot5 · 04/09/2014 13:21

Can I join the queue of people wondering what the hell this has to do with being a Mnetter?

Another one here who would think the person in front of me was being a silly tw*t trying to make it more difficult for me to unload my shopping and would just turn it round.

What am I missing?

5Foot5 · 04/09/2014 13:24

they wont get their shopping through checkout at any different speed, they still have to wait for the person in front to pay and leave.

It might not delay you as such, but it is useful to have as much spare conveyor belt as possible to load on to because it is better to be able to get all your stuff out of the trolley before the checkout person starts to scan it through. If you are still unloading when they are scanning you end up with it all piling up at the other end.

DiaDuit · 04/09/2014 13:25

5foot5

What you are missing is the posts explaining it.

It was a game started by a MNer called chaos. Not intended to delay anyone at all. (And it doesnt)

CinnabarRed · 04/09/2014 13:27

But it does cause issues for me, in that I can't unload all my shopping before the cashier starts scanning. And as I'm also juggling 3 children aged 6 and under, I don't find it in the slightest bit amusing.

gamerchick · 04/09/2014 13:34

So don't play it then.

DiaDuit · 04/09/2014 13:38

But it does cause issues for me, in that I can't unload all my shopping before the cashier starts scanning. And as I'm also juggling 3 children aged 6 and under, I don't find it in the slightest bit amusing

Then just turn the fucker round the right way! It takes half a second to turn it and nobody is going to fight you over it. It's hardly worth moaning over is it? Confused

Goldmandra · 04/09/2014 13:39

AFAIK nobody is actually glueing the divider across the belt. If you don't like where it is, you can just turn it round Smile

Germgirl · 04/09/2014 13:40

I did a / today in m&s food. I got an amazing audible tut and catsbum face from the elderly couple behind.
The beige-trousered gentleman then picked the divider up & pointedly slammed it back down at a perfect 90 degree angle to my shopping.
I attempted a grin at the cashier but she was clearly on their side.
I slunk out, chastened.

Hurr1cane · 04/09/2014 13:40

Move it then. It's not the law to even put one behind your shopping for the beast person, it's just nice, so people are still doing you a favour.

Hurr1cane · 04/09/2014 13:41

For the next person even. Not he beast person....

DiaDuit · 04/09/2014 13:42

I think it has become clear that there are two types of people in this world. Those who can / and those who never ever will and cant undersand those who do Grin

CinnabarRed · 04/09/2014 13:57

Then just turn the fucker round the right way! It takes half a second to turn it and nobody is going to fight you over it.

Because the person who did it to me openly laughed at me. I hate that.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/09/2014 14:06

im fucking roaring at this.

I'm a friend of Chaos, can't wait to tell her that mumsnetters are getting all po faced over the divider prank.

DiaDuit · 04/09/2014 14:08

They laughed. They didnt punch you or hold the thing down with all their weight! Just turn it around! And grow a thicker skin.

DiaDuit · 04/09/2014 14:09

And i'm not sure what your 'because' is for after you wuoted my comment. I wasnt asking a question Confused

OnlyLovers · 04/09/2014 14:10

I failed to put the divider up at all recently.

In my defence, I'd just made the security barrier beep and was twatting about, flustered, trying to put it back to its correct position but misunderstanding the (very patient) checkout person's simple instructions.

The woman behind me gave me an old-fashioned look and pointedly got the divider and positioned it herself. I felt like I'd spilled her pint.

DiaDuit · 04/09/2014 14:15

Grin what is an old fashioned look?

TimBurgessILoveYourSmile · 04/09/2014 14:16

LTB :)

JustAShopGirl · 04/09/2014 14:17

THAT explains it... there must have been a mumsnetter in Waitrose (was visiting Cheltenham) last week - there were 3 - THREE - dividers on the belt all pointing towards the back- only one lot of shopping, but 3 dividers - side by side - not in a long line - though that would have been funnier....

so come on OWN UP!!

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 04/09/2014 14:18
Grin how can it be so wrong when it feels so right?
