to be grossed out by this hen do idea?

So a friend is getting married in July and I asked her if she knew what she wanted to do for her hen do.

She wants to hire a hot tub for the weekend and have lots of people over to her house.

The price she told me I'm guessing it will be standard size so 8/10 people max, so I'm also guessing she will have people over in groups.

Aibu to think it's rather gross and possibly awkward?

You just know that someone will probably pee in it and with it being outside it'll have all grass in it after a few hours.

Just don't get in.
I love hot tubs - we have an inflatable one in the garden although I now refuse to use it as DS and his friends use it and whilst I'm pretty sure adults don't go around weeing in hot tubs, I'm not so sure about 8 year olds.

Just say you'd rather not - we've been on ski trips and a friend didn't want to use the hot tub, she didn't say why, I didn't ask, nor did I think any less of her. I assume it was because she was embarassed about being in a swimming costume but now I'm thinking it was because she was worried we would wee in it Shock.

HilariousInHindsight · 01/09/2014 17:12

If it was just other women no problem.

If men were there not a chance unless it was my brother or something(which is a moot point because I don't have one).

That's me personally though and everyone is different.

As pp suggested just say Aunt Mary is visiting you this week and you don't use tampons.

Impatientwino · 01/09/2014 17:15

She obviously just wants a relaxed party at home and wants to have something a bit different so thinks a hot tub would be fun after a few wines.

Just be grateful that she isn't asking you to spend £250 or something ridiculous on a long weekend abroad.

My friends and I hired a cottage that had a hot tub, it was a giggle and not once did I think they would wee in it. It's a bit strange that is your first thought if I'm honest, just don't go in if you don't like it.

Do you ever use swimming pools? Confused

BehindHerSmile · 01/09/2014 17:16

A lot of them were suggesting making it a girls' do.

Yeah they said that because she said she didn't want to invite one of friends partners.

Therefore either make it an all girls do or ... invite him.

It may be ok op. A very sweet friend of ours has a hot tub. I went over recently with dd and another friend. We had a really nice afternoon in it, very relaxing and chilled. Don 't know if I'd enjoy it for a night time party but it's not the most heinous Hen party idea I've heard!

pictish · 01/09/2014 17:19

Yanbu...sounds awful...but then, I do not possess a bikini body and would be most unwilling to parade around in a swimsuit in front of a crowd of people.

Bakeoffcakes · 01/09/2014 17:20

I expect you won't be the only one with an excuse either, so don't worry about it. Just go along and have a few drinks.

Bulbasaur · 01/09/2014 17:22

Put chlorine in it. Problem solved.

Or just don't get in the hot tub. Say you're not a hot tub person, keep it breezy and don't make a scene about it.

Everyone is going to be so drunk, I doubt they're going to care who goes in the hot tub or not.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 01/09/2014 17:30

Oh I know OP but there also seemed to be a general assumption that it was more OK as an idea anyway as a girls' do - many being uncomfortable in bikinis if others' partners were there, less swingery, etc.

Anyway I do understand why you wouldn't want to.

fatlazymummy · 01/09/2014 17:34

Just don't get in it. I wouldn't ,tbh, not because I think it's gross but just because I don't see the point of them. I just don't want to socialise while sitting in water. You can still have a drink and a chat while sitting near to the hot tub without actually getting in.

Vitalstatistix · 01/09/2014 17:40

Nothing on this earth would persuade me into a hot tub. I have no desire to have a bath in the garden with half a dozen other people.

She can expect all she likes, she can't upend you and tip you in. If you don't want to do it (and I don't blame you) just don't do it. You can sit next to them in their lovely al fresco bath and have a nice bottle of wine.

squoosh · 01/09/2014 17:41

'I just don't want to socialise while sitting in water.'

I have no idea why, but that has given me the giggles.

sweetnessandlite · 01/09/2014 18:10

I don't mind the wee (well I do sort of) but the thing that really grosses me out is the thought that people probably won't shower before getting in.

I wouldn't get in a bath after 20 people's worth of BO, Sweat, and other Umentionables had soaked into it, so don't see what's so different about a hot tub.
Yuck.

Maisyblue · 01/09/2014 18:29

I think it sounds ok, better than being in noisy pubs not able to hear each other. It'll be a laugh and a good craic.

BehindHerSmile · 01/09/2014 18:38

She obviously just wants a relaxed party at home and wants to have something a bit different so thinks a hot tub would be fun after a few wines.

I really don't think it will be just that.

There will be a meal.
A night out
A spar day

We've already have the engagement party and we have been asked to have breakfast with them the morning after the wedding too.

Iggi999 · 01/09/2014 18:43

A spar day would get pretty boring, Behindhersmile Wink

NoodleOodle · 01/09/2014 19:00

It sounds good to me, just don't get in if you don't want to, I doubt you'll be the only one abstaining as evidenced by the varied responses in this thread.

CeliaBowen · 01/09/2014 19:04

HAven't read the whole thread (sorry!) but I did just this for my hen party, with a bbq and about 15 bottles of champagne between 8 of us.

It was really very nice - a taste of what it would be like to have a hot tub at home, quite low key and a nice way to spend an evening with friends to celebrate the impending wedding.

I think we paid £20 each including the bbq! (bring a plate and a bottle)

Don't be so precious.

cece · 01/09/2014 19:05

My friend has a hot tub. We have girls only drinks parties in it. No need for a hen party as an excuse to do it. It is fun!

CeliaBowen · 01/09/2014 19:06

(ok, missed the bit about partners coming. Ours was girls only)

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 01/09/2014 19:12

No Celia you didn't miss anything, the partners bit was about another thread.

I think your hen sounds lovely! Refreshing too after all these bleeding bleed-you-dry weekends away.

Lifesalemon · 01/09/2014 20:30

YANBU
I would hate it too. If you invited all of your friends round and asked them to get in the bath together they would think you were strange but put a bath in the garden and call it a hot tub and it suddenly it becomes fun. Im afraid I just don't get it.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 01/09/2014 20:41

I love a hot tub, especially when it's cold outside. I also manage to not pee in hot tubs. You'd love my Swedish friends mind you, they have a sauna and you go in nekkid when you go for dinner. Doesn't half make me poo. But not in the sauna, obviously.

AyMamita · 01/09/2014 20:52

Bit odd. Could you pretend you have a verruca? That always used to get people off swimming at school, if memory serves...

Lifesalemon · 01/09/2014 20:52

Oh my god lonny I hope I never get invited to dinner anywhere like that Grin
Does it really make you poo?
